  • Wow, like I would look like that. NOT! In fact, I'm gonna get a GameBoy for my collection and I won't even look like that at all! :(

  • dude, isn't that the retard brother in "my name is earl"?

  • ...or Super Game Boy or Game Boy Color!!!!

  • Mortal 2?

  • But now, there is a thing as soft-mod hacking your PSP to play Gameboy & Game Gear emulators.

Kinda defeats the purpose, I suppose?

  • Wasn't that the fat dude who was in Boy Meets World?

  • This was Sega advertising at its absolute best!

  • Nostalgia guys that had the game boy with their child hood, dont get on me about your child hood.

  • Who cares about the gameboy, Sega was having the time of their lives making big gamegears while Nintendo was making smailler and smailler game boys until they came to their scences and made the ds bigger, about time nintendo.

  • Why was the gameboy kid fat and the gamegear kid in shape? Subliminal messaging?

  • Game gear superior??? NO! It had like 2 decent games which were sonic and mortal combat, but even in those games the controls were sketchy and didn't compute well with what was going on in the game. The build sucked and had a lot of problems. It usually stoped working all together within 3 years. To many batteries for 3 hours of gameplay. It was way to huge and if you dropped it once, you were fucked. (It happened to mine.) When i was 6 i thought it was superior, but had to find out the hard way

  • @hotchocolate420 But nowadays you can play XBOX 360 and PS3 on a LEGIT GAME GEAR!!!

  • Portal 2?*rushes out to the sega store**finds out the portals are nothing but shit**returns game gear*

  • Too bad, the gamegear eats batteries for breakfast, lunch, dinner and snacks.

  • Wait............ it's legal to have your competitors product in your commercial for you to trash on?

  • There was a attachment to the gameboy for color

  • wasn't the frame rate on the game gear like horrible?

  • what happened to sega? the last one they made was the dreamcast.

  • Portal 2 was first available on the Game Gear: 0:28

  • @venocter Mortal 2, as in Mortal Combat 2.

  • @fireredtrainer01 I'm aware. That's just a weird way of referring to it. Also, Kombat, not Combat.

  • So, if I whack myself with a dead rodent...I'll get a kind of high? Thanks SEGA...you'll be saving me a TON of money on weed...but not Nintendo games!

  • the only way to find good battery life on a game gear is to hit yourself over the head with a squirrel.

  • hey is that Earl's brother from the tv show "My name is Earl"? lol!

  • i wonder what if game commercial these days where like this

  • @tekkenarmorkingking It would never happen now days. Everyone is too sensitive. Some dude hitting himself with a dead animal PETA be ready to boycott sega advocating dead animals are cool. yeah the 00's suck balls lol

  • @Slacker4LiFe247 meanwhile millions of babies are legally murdered in this country every year. Just dont wear fur and youll be fine

  • @ooNATIVEoo seriously, people with no lives get offended over the stupidest of things, and are ready to boycott and sue in a heart beat. Don't want to get too much about my business but I did a project years ago for a commercial and one of the kids lines was ''What are you stupid'' You know we were told that it had to be taken out because it might offend someone that might be slow? LOL all we could do was shake our heads.

  • Frankie from Boy Meets World

  • Fake game boy! He jumped with B and did something without pressing any buttons!

  • Good thing SEGA isn't like this around Nintendo anymore.

  • Whoa....ok this was probably pointed out a 1000 times but,

Hey it's the guy from American History X!

  • Would take Mario Land 2 over any of that other crap any day of the week.

  • RAndyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy

  • @0:28 "...and Mortal II"

How did the announcer miss the correct title "Mortal Kombat II"? I'll assume he wasn't seeing the action on a monitor to know it was a Mortal Kombat game and that the writter(s) omitted 'Kombat' from the games name on accident.

  • and then at the end of that commercial, the game gear ran out of its 6 AA batteries

  • @harkejuice it was probably played through Game Gear tv tuner and that's why the "Sega" at the end didn't make it.

  • @harkejuice Great comment. I remember the hassle of constantly worrying about running out of batteries with my Game Gear.

  • By using the fat guy to hold the Gameboy, they made it look extremely smaller than the game gear.

  • i need to get one of these Squirrels :)

  • Acid papers will give you the same effect.

  • I played the hell out of Mortal 2 after beating Street 2

  • Hey crabman.

  • Haha my science teacher told us about this... I Just had to search it!

  • that's Ethan Suplee from American History X

  • "The Nintendo Gameboy has third-party support. The Sega Game Gear doesn't. So what's third-party support do?"

  • @SoukerWorldGaming Nintendo losing their Nazi grip on 3rd party publishers at that point. Game Gear ended up with PLENTY of 3rd party support, anyway.

  • @bruhaha69 The Gameboy still had better third party suppot. Capcom, Konami, Sunsoft, and Squaresoft all supported the Gameboy with awesome games. The Game Gear mostly relied on SEGA with a few exceptions like Mortal Kombat.

  • @SoukerWorldGaming Sure, they had better support, but you said Game Gear had none. They clearly did. I was just correcting you on that. As a matter of awesome games, Sega was on top of the development heap back then and anything they put out was typically better than 3rd party games. Game Gear has a great library of games, easily on par with Game Boy (from a quality standpoint)

  • @bruhaha69 As for the Game Gear’s first-party support, it mostly consisted of Sonic games, Shinning Force, A crap load of direct Master System Ports, and GG versions of Genesis games. Not bad but nothing too special either. At least with franchises on the Gameboy like Mario, Zelda, Battletoads, and Mega Man (V), they felt like new games and not simplified ports. The Gameboy also introduced new series like Kirby, Wario, Pokemon, Kid Dracula, Gargoyles’ Quest, and Seiken Densetsu.

  • @bruhaha69 Also, that "No third party support" comment was a joke. It was making fun of a "blast processing" comercial. Of course the Game Gear had third party support.

  • @SoukerWorldGaming Mario, Zelda, Battletoads and Mega Man hardly qualify as games that felt new. They felt like the same games we already had on NES just with less colors and slight changes to attempt distinguishing them from what you already played at home.

You kind of have it backwards. Many of the Game Gear games may have shared the same in name as their Genesis counterparts, but were very different. All the Sonics, Castle of Illusion, Ax Battler/Golden Axe, Shinobi, Ninja Gaiden, etc

  • @bruhaha69 All the Sonics besides triple trouble were Master System Ports you know. And while all those games you mentioned were good/great, you're kind of contradicting yourself. Mario Land 1 & 2 are nothing like the NES games. Same with Link's awakening and BattleToads. Mega Man V had a space theme with completely original bosses, powers, and enemies. What exactly makes these games feel unoriginal as opposed to the games you mentioned?

  • @SoukerWorldGaming Not contradicting anything. Sure there were some direct ports, but that's because the hand held tech was comparable to the SMS. Nintendo couldn't have directly ported anything to the GB because it wasn't possible. Anyway, the games you mention are same old, same old. You played one Mega Man, you played them all. A space theme and different powers don;t make it new, it's still a standard MM game. Same as GB Zelda and Mario.I will give you Kirby and Gargoyle's Quest, though

  • @bruhaha69 You played one Sonic game, you played them all. You played one Streets of Rage game, you played them all. You played one Shinobi game, you played them all. You played one Ecco game, you played them all. Yes, you ARE contradicting yourself. Once again, what makes the games you mentioned any more original than the ones I mentioned?

  • @SoukerWorldGaming Show me where I said there was a difference. I made the statements because you talked about these GB games like they were new and fresh. They weren't. They were typical sequels, like any other. I never said the GG games WERE any different. You're just repeatedly changing the topic so you don't look like a fool trying to win an argument that never existed. See post about my original points A and B. Reading comprehension is your friend.

  • @bruhaha69 I didn’t say the Marios and Zeldas felt “freash”, I just said that those games felt like new entries in their series’ instead of simplified ports of the console game with the same setting, music, title, story, amount of levels and shit. Like Steets of Rage, Gunstar Heroes, and Ristar.

  • @SoukerWorldGaming and lastly, where was my response to games like Shinobi I, II, Ax Battler and Ninja Gaiden? Those were pretty unique to GG. You say I gave no examples, well I gave them prior to your repetitive responses.

As far as ports from SMS, I don't discount those as good portable games just because they were made for both. Nintendo would have done the same if direct ports from NES were possible. Tech prevented them. Yes, you got us this far off topic

  • @bruhaha69 You made it pretty obvious that you think any sequel to a game on the gameboy is “same old, same old.”, So PLEASE explain what makes the sequels to SEGA’s franchises so freaking unique.

  • @bruhaha69 And while it’s your opinion, I don’t necessarily count direct ports unless it’s a full fledged remake. No one will brag about a game you can play on another system.

  • @SoukerWorldGaming Except barely anyone had the SMS, so they'd never know that, plus, it's great to be able to play those games on the road. Anywho, I won't continue going back and forth with you, especially not in this limited reply crap. I'll just leave it agreeing to disagree, because this won't ever end. Internet arguments never do. Carry on

  • @bruhaha69 Oh well...... no hard feelings then?;)

  • @SoukerWorldGaming Course not. The internets are too whacky to hold grudges

  • @bruhaha69 And not all Gameboy games were based off NES games. The Gameboy had plenty of original games as well. Trip World, Mole Mania, Wave Race, Kirby, Pokemon, Avenging Spirit, Kid Dracula, Battle Arena Toshinden (Way different from the console games), Ballon Kid, The Gameboy Camera, Revenge of the Gator, Bubble Ghost, Wario, and Seiken Densetsu. The Game Gear had some good original games as well (like Tail's Adventure), but nowhere near as many as the Gameboy.

  • @SoukerWorldGaming Never said they didn't have any good originals. I just disagreed that GG had A.) no 3rd party support and B.) a lack of original games. Sure, GB had way more games, but I would say in quantity alone, not quality. Just as there were a lot of great games, there were a ton more turds, too. That's what happens when every dev and their brother are making games.

  • @bruhaha69 Now you’re changing the subject. It doesn’t matter which system had the most bad games. Of course the more popular system with the biggest library will also have a lot of bad games. The PS2 has a hundreds of crappy games but people still is considered one of the best consoles ever. Why? Because it still has a lot of great games. Also, you still haven’t proven my statement about the Game Gear not having that many good original games false.

  • @SoukerWorldGaming Haha, o, I'M changing the subject? Interesting, I could swear that has been you, considering we started talking solely about your 3rd party license comment where you then back-peddled into calling it a joke. You were the one to bring in all the rest, man. Don't start whining when you started the E-Drama.

  • @bruhaha69 I was just clarifying that the first comment I made was indeed a joke. That’s why I made it a separate comment. I didn’t actually expect you to respond to that. You admitted that the GameBoy had better third party support, but said the Game Gear's first party were the best hendheld games of their time. I disagreed, so here we are.:)

  • @SoukerWorldGaming I know it was a joke, but I couldn't let it slide against a great commercial like this....if there's one thing people should respect from Sega, it's their old Sega scream commercials. They were some of the best video game commercials we ever had.

  • that is, unless you have that Game Boy Colo(u)r (marketed as GameBoy Colour in UK)

  • @jjovereats It also came out in 1998, a good 8 years after Game Gear.

  • so... Gameboy is not copyrighted?

  • Ah, the old debate: which is better, Nintendo's crap or SEGA's crap... Gosh, there's a lot of friends I could have made had I not been such a freaking fanboy back then...

  • so why did the game gear fail it looks good even today

  • @MrRolflol The Game Gear failed because the people who designed it didn't fully understand why the Game Boy was such a good portable system in the first place. The biggest detractors were the bulkiness and the very low battery life due to the backlight. Just take a look at many of the Game Boy competitors back then and they pretty much made the same mistakes.

  • Isnt that the guy from My name is Earl? LOL, getting into topic the Game Gear was a good but system, but only lasts like 6 months before they die.

  • @CaptCamping No,I've had mine for years now it still works and I play it like every day.

  • @lolbirdisthewordlol you are a lucky guy, but not many were so lucky

  • @CaptCamping

Yeah, the DSTN LCD screens would 'decompose' and fail right?

  • "There's an easier way"

I dunno, whacking my head to get colour seems pretty easy to me.

  • i prefer the game boy

  • Both had its flaws and Features

  • Who would've thought this guy would go on to be in a hit TV show on NBC?

  • "Mortal 2"?

  • uh... the Game Gear out on the street in broad sunlight... well, that's the environment the original Gameboy was for... but indoors the GG kicked its ass.

  • its funny cause its a fat kid playing gameboy

  • i just took a little tiny plastic cover that changed color by a sensor of light that hit it that made it llook color i just was playing around one day and what was weird was donkey kong looked brown and bricks and mario looked red i tried to stretch it out and i dont know WHY it made it color so technically i actually HAD the first color gameboy

  • I saw Dynamite Headdy! :D

  • lol, I remember this

  • HEY EARL IM IN A TV COMMERICAL

  • @imcool0213

    Nice job Randy

  • ive seen this kid on tv!!!!! hahaha!!!! he lost weight tho xD

  • lol mallrats dude

"you dumb bastard. it's not a schooner it's a sailboat"

  • I love Ethan Suplee. lol

I remember this commercial back in the day, but I never remembered him being in it.

  • Comment removed

  • @teckademiczlol

"a schooner is a sailboat, stupidhead!"

  • This was an awesome commercial I had forgotten about, but now remember quite vividly! Ha, wow, childhood memories of WTF

  • LOL DS VS. PSP

  • notice how dey just tap butons randomly and da gam just muvs

  • game gear is the best vieo game portable od the world

era la puta caña, pero no tuve dinero para comprarmela

  • try sega nomad- game gear is master system protable nomad is mega drive portable, it's american and its the best hand held ever!!

  • @enterthetekken I agree I loved my Nomad. I miss my Nomad even though I still do have a SEGA Genesis.

  • jajaja e sla mejor sega xD

  • Ethan Fuckin Suplee!!!!!!!!!!!

  • I remember that commercial from way back when.

  • That looks like a new drug I could try out!

  • and we all know who won that battle.

  • The game boy colour. For having color and superior games.

  • I loved that game gear.

  • hahahaha my name is earl, american history x

  • anyone else notice he said "mortal 2"?

  • They would never get away with something like this nowadays. It would be like if Sony made a Playstation 3 commercial showing footage from Wii Sports with a voiceover saying See, look how bad Nintendos graphics are, thats why youre a fat moron unless you buy Playstation 3.

  • lol xD

  • If this had better games, and the battery life issue fixed, it would of done alright.

Heck, until the PSP came out, it was the 2nd most successful non Nintendo handheld :/.

Now I can play almost the past systems on a PSP, or DSi, or GP2X, or iPhone.

  • why always sega attack nintendo?

  • same reason why pepsi attack coke, burger king attack mcdonalds, hollywood video attack blockbuster, etc

    Desperate companies do desperate marketing.

  • true that

  • Uhh, because nintendo was the chief rival to Sega then??

  • Mortal 2 lmao what happened to Kombat

  • Game boy tetris >>>> Game gear

    what movie was he from?

  • Mallrats and American History X are some of his best known roles in movies, he is also on the TV show My Name is Earl.

  • holy shit! you're right that's Ethan suplee. look how young he was and big. I wonder if he hit himself with a dead squirrel during mallrats, i bet i would have saw the sailboat instantly.

  • you ever pause the movie and look at the magic eye picture....its not even a sail boat its weird looking circles and diamonds

  • with over 150 games....that are total ass.

  • Sega could have been sued for using Mario and Nintendo Gameboy.

  • Not if they gave credit at the end of the commercial; "Mario and GameBoy are copyrighted by Nionetnedo", something like that. Competitors products are shown in ads all the time.

  • Dude, I wanna trip on some squirrels...

  • Its Randy from my Name is Earl. LOL.

  • Yup. Ethan Suplee. this was his first major acting job. Also, another useless fact - The guy who plays Willie, the one eyed mailman in earl, is Bill Suplee, his father in real life.

  • Wow, are you serious! I love useless facts about TV shows!

  • Yeah, I was watching Mallrats last night (If you haven't seen it watch it. Jason Lee's(Earl) first major acting role and Ethan Suplee are in it. When I watch a movie, I love to wiki it at the same time, so I ended up on Suplee's wikipedia page where it gave me all that info.

  • i can't wait to play mortal 2!

  • I got it on ps3 lol

  • Ethan Suplee

  • jusy say no to sega gamegear and its 6 aa battery usagage that lasts 1 and a half hours thanks to that hug lcd screen . lol

  • uhhh... someone tell me when that makes sense...

  • To make a gameboy work in colour you had to hit yourself with a dead squirrel. It's rather simple, really.

  • so does it also work with chipmunks, birds...?

  • The only way to find out is to try :o

  • Dead squirrels can be used as psychedelics?

  • Hey, My Name is Earl, the fat guy!

  • getting hit with a dead squirrel is the equivilent of acid!

  • Holy crap!! Ecco the Dolphin!! Ahh memories!

  • yeah i was watching remember the titans and hes lost 590 tons

  • FUCK YEAH MORTAL 2

  • wat

  • ecco and these wierd rpgs for gear were just beauiful. I never knew anyone who didn't love staring at someones gamegear at school. gameboy was standard, gamegear was special.

  • I actually do remember staring at a classmate's Game Gear thinking it was the coolest thing ever. Then the batteries died, I asked him how often he had to place them, and his reply convinced me that my ugly Game Boy was just fine. Which I guess happened a lot everywhere, because the Game Gear got steamrolled.

  • stop reposting shit

  • "I asked him how often he had to place them, and his reply convinced me that my ugly Game Boy was just fine." - AlexanderD

Hmm? I never had a GG myself, but what about rechargable batteries? And if GG's battery life was 5 hours (that's according to wikipedia) that means one set would last a 5-hour ride.

"Which I guess happened a lot everywhere, because the Game Gear got steamrolled." - AlexanderD

I'd like to think that was because some people didn't like Sega's condescending approach...

  • You know there was a rechargable battery pack for it right?

  • ETHAN SUPLEE! ^_^ wow he has lost a lot of weight! good for him!

  • Yeah, you can really tell in Clerks 2!

  • hahaha!, sega is better than nintendo!

  • i swear most sega games are in nintendo anyway.

  • That guy also had a role in the TV show "Boy Meets World" as the bully in high school, but he also wrote poems.

  • Nintendo is MUCH better...

  • hey, it's the fat guy from "my name is earl"! i didn't know he was the one to invent the game boy color!

  • wow Ethan Suplee has lost so much weight since this

  • as much as i am a nintendo fan ...... the game gear was much better with colorscreen and backlight

  • Gameboy ruled. It held less batteries and sold far more ten game gear.

  • gamin in da park o yea

  • WTF is with the oversized baby carriage?! That old bitch must be smuggling Lebron James in that mofo.

  • ETHAN FUCKING SUPLEE!!

  • Classic

  • Ahh, Sega dissing Nintendo in commercials and

    vice versa.

    Those were the days...

  • Yeah... I miss the olden days. In my opinion, Sonic should go back to 2-D. Then, he'd rise back to power.

  • Well, they are still using 2d gameplay and graphics and some little 3d in the DS Sonic games.

  • That's good and all, but Sonic Rush sucked. Thankfully, Rush Adventure was good. Hopefully, Sonic Unleashed will bring SOnic back to his former glory.

  • totally agree on the sonic comment.

  • Game gear ruled.Period.amazing advert.

  • "...Mortal II..."

    LOLOLOL

  • Wow, that really takes me back.

  • Hey, Dynamite Headdy :D

  • yessss ! it's Ethan Suplee :)

  • Is that the guy from Boy meets World and My Name is EARL?

  • i used to always play gamegear, i still have it. Too bad it took 6 batteries. I remember when the first gameboy advance came out, i thought it was stupid and was copying the shape of gamegear, then i gave in and got one.

  • HA! This commercial's so funny. I haven't seen it in YEEARS! Genesis Does What Nintendon't. lol

  • lol weird but funny
