Very nice and interesting project. I'm interested in the idea of mesh networking, which is how I found this. Such technology would be one way to circumvent government censorship too, if such a thing will happen.
I am experienced with a few wireless mesh network setups. You basically have a multipoint to multipoint network. Access points can serve as the mesh or you can have the mesh networks run in adhoc mode. One problem with wireless is interference in the 2.4ghz spectrum. You have packet loss if you have interference. I believe 900mhz and also 5.8ghz can also succumb in interference. 900mhz= farthest range, 2.4 = good, 5.8 shorter range but best signal quality.
this is quite impressive..i do have one question though. Is there a limit to how many laptop units can connect into a mesh network? if there is, what is the number of laptops?
I think the idea is that as more nodes are added, the networking capability actually increases. So theoretically there shouldn't be a limit, assuming data is distributed (a la BitTorrent).
OMG, the world is bigger then your own back yard! Everyone in the world deserves a fair go! Help those that are a little less fortunate then yourself.
why is that when someone tries to do a little good in the world, excuse me EXECUTES on a dream and actually DOES a LOT of good for the world...we have to tear them down? Great work guys. Keep dreaming and keep executing!

Now my question is, why is this more important than food and potable water in Africa... why not implement this technology with the donations in under-privileged areas of the US. Such a bleeding heart cause dumping wasted money into the pockets of bleeding hearts trying to take advantage of their situation.
Easy. Information is a technology and commodity that multiplies in a non-zero sum way.
Further, applications geared towards mesh networks can aid in local or regional business. They can also assist in community goal planning and organization.
