  • i likw 4wd in suvs for deep deep snow but awd for drifting in snow, wet pavement, and dry, nothing beats the assurance of awd while driving but in 2 feet+ snow i like 4wd

  • @nelson4568 Because most 4wd vehicles have a low range gear set I would have to agree with you. Having said that there are a 2 auto makers I know of that offer Awd with a low range, Porsche and Subaru (but since the 2 companies work together it's no surprise). Subaru isn't selling it's improved Awd with a low range in America yet but you can get a Porsche Cayenne with Awd and the low gear set. All the major car magazines from Motor trend to Road & Track say the Cayenne is awesome off road.

  • @porsche558 i dont own a subaru but i know they have the best awd, i have a land cruiser and an fj cruiser the fjs 4wd, it drives just as well as the awd in deep snow, but the awd in the land cruiser feels much more planted, im not sliding around its not as sloppy thats why i prefer awd in almost any situation, just the 4wd is alittle more challenging i guess due to its potential to constantly slip around

  • seriously bro? you do know that a 4wd truck with open diffs dont try and make all 4 wheels spin? and you can definitely make 4wd do that... believe me i've done it. i agree with JACKDORITO you should really know how it all works before you explain it.

  • @lunchboxsmash "seriously dude" you and jackdorito are making more of this than you should. I thought I said I wasn't going to get into a deep technical explanation of the various systems and how they work. And I do know what I'm talking about. In the future you really should learn to be less confrontational with people...you just come off as sounding like an ass. For the record without getting into the technical explanation what I said was accurate perhaps "you don't know anything".

  • What you said is not entirely true. It's mostly true but much more complex than what you explained. Even among AWD cars like Subaru's there are different kinds of AWD. For example, the manuals have a viscus coupling differential AWD which splits torque front and rear while the automatics have an electronic differential which actively manages power as you described. There are differet kinds of 4WD just as there are AWD. Get it straight if you are going to try to explain it.

  • @jackdorito Thanks but I did "get it straight". Ask a mechanic or an engineer. I over simplified my explanation because most people don't care about the details. I am fully aware of the many 4WD and AWD drive types out there from Subaru's viscous coupling AWD to Volvo's Haldex system. What I said was correct. AWD actively transfers power to the wheels while 4WD just puts power to all 4 all the time mechanically. Since you seem to know so much what did I get wrong?

  • great videos dude! i personally would say audi has the best all wheel drive. but then again i havent been in a new subaru in a long time. 

  • Audi does have a very good AWD system. I picked Subaru as my top choice for best AWD based on performance in bad weather, off road conditions, technical specs, and cost. My second pick would easily be Audi. They too have good tech specs, good performance in bad weather. There quattro system is expensive though (however if I were to buy and Audi it would be a quattro) and they really didn't design their system for off road usage.

  • that's true, Audi is much more expensive and more designed for slick roads when it comes down to its AWD. But since my father works for them we get a massive discount, so that is the main reason why i prefer them. But also the A3 with quattro brand new is about 30K and the Subaru Outback is 22K. So i would agree with you to go with Subaru if you're looking for a good priced AWD car meant for offroad. (: 

  • That's cool that your dad works for Audi. I love the fact that Audi s now using LED lights as driving lights on all their cars. I can't wait for the day that car companies come out with LED headlights to replace halogen and HID lights. I also have to say that as far as super sports cars go I love the Porsche 911 turbo and the Audi R8. If you don't mind me asking what do you drive and what does your dad do for Audi?...it you don't want to answer that in a comment you can email me on youtube.

  • haha it's cool, my dad is a trainer for every dealership on the west coast training on the new 3rd Generation MMI with navigation, those cars that have the 3G MMI are the Q5, A4, Q7 and the R8 I believe, but yea i totally agree that it is pretty sweet that the are now using LED's for headlights. And I've been lucky enough to see the Audi R15 which is used in Le Mans France for the 24 Hour race, and I also was able to sit in the new 5.2 FSI V10 R8. It is truly one hell of a machine.

  • and also I personally love the quality and design of Porsche, but just not the price tag, and since I've been introduced to Audi more thoroughly I've seen the quality of the design and the performance that is delivered out of those machines, and not to mention all the technology they put into it also ;) But at home we have the 3.2L Q5 with every single option available. personally i cant drive a car without some of those features haha (: but i think Audi, Porsche and Subaru are all comparable (:

  • I would agree all three of those automakers are loaded with the latest tech (which I love). I'm just wondering do you have a driving licence? I've learned not to trust the ages on peoples profile....lots of people under 18 like to pick the wrong birth dates LOL. Any way the Q5 is beast! I get one if I had the cash and if I liked SUV's, I'm a car person though....I like something low to the ground and fast and sporty. That's cool that you got to sit in the R8 V10...that thing is awesome!

  • yea it's all pretty legit stuff, and no not yet, I only have my permit! hahaha but i will get my license within about 3 or 4 months X) I'm super excited. even though I could have legally gotten it about half a year ago. lol

  • ^_^ wow..it looks so much fun :D

  • Thank you Anne......it was too much fun....only wished I had a second camera with me so people could see what that looks like outside the car

  • good explanation of the awd/4wd thing. drifting looked awesome!

  • thanks

  • This is fun, me and my friend go snow drifting every week, till we got enough snow here :P

  • You have to make a video for youtube of you and your friend drifting when you get some snow that would be awesome!

  • "YAAAAAAAAYYYYYY"
