i hate sonic 2 in general. i'm not good enough at it to get to the boss, but i just hate its gameplay in general. sonic 1 and sonic 3 were way better. and it's not because of tails, i like tails, he kills stuff for you sometimes.

The final boss in Sonic the Hedgehog 2 for Sega Genesis? Oh, I have no problem with metal sonic, I always take him down in like, under 30 seconds, it's the giant Eggmech that gives me trouble. I always play it really safe when I fight him, so it takes mad long.

Sonic and Knuckles shouldn't have even existed. They just wanted to rush Sonic 3 onto the market so they split the game in half.

I really enjoy Sonic 2 and I prefer it's special stages over Sonic 1's but I agree blue balls is a lot better, I think the only reason I'm good at S2 is that I first got it 15/16 years ago and for like a year that and Mortal Kombat where the only games I had on the Mega Drive.

The Sonic 2 final boss and Silver Sonic aren't that hard once you know the pattern. If you're having trouble, just look up a video on YouTube. That's how I learned to do some stuff in Mega Man. I hate the S2 special stages too, though - I just skip them usually. Blue sphere and the S1 special stages are definitely more fun.

The only Sonic games I've ever played are Rush, The Black Knight, and Chronicles. Rush was pretty good, the Black Knight was a blast, and Chronicles was an RPG but it had a relatively cool touch-based battle system and I'm gonna LP it at some point.

@BikdipOnABus I actaully enjoyed most of the 3D games, and thought Unleashed (360/PS3 version) was one of the best Sonic games in years. But meh, to each his own.

And yeah, the Sonic 2 final boss is a real pain. One of the hardest in the entire series. My suggestion is to just watch a video of it and try to copy what the guy does.

And for the special stages: try turning off Tails. He makes them harder than they should be by running into so many bombs.

Even with the annoying final boss, I still love Sonic 2. It's my favorite of the originals. I've never had the oppurtunity to play CD though, which bugs me.

When I get to the final boss, I consider the game beat. I can beat the final boss by save stating before fighting it but without doing that there's no way to figure out the proper pattern and timing.

If you want to feel like you suck at the game even more, check out the speed run on speeddemosarchive. Its amazing(ly demoralizing).
