Hell yeah!! I'm running the same turbo on my 04 GTI AWP Block. I had the GT28RS before and I have to say the best turbo for this engines is the GT30, pulls like a freak train, I kinda want to build a new exhaust that exits to the side and make some more noise. Nice vid.
If it weren't for that really narrow powerband, I'd switch to a big GT30. For my taste (street use) I'd stick the 20-valve engine with something that spools sooner, like a GT28 (aka Disco Potato), albeit I confess your top-end acceleration is mind blowing and impossible to achieve with a K04/GT28 setup.
Your turbo should be a near-perfect match for a stroker engine or better with the VR6.
Narrow? Hell no, its not narrow at all. It builds boost at 3k by 4k im at 20+ PSI. Check out my boost response video to see how well it spools. The GT3071R is the best damn street turbo out there for these cars. And if you are lucky enough to own a 6 speed you are never out of the sweet spot at any speed. Hell with the eurodyne 2 step/ launch control I can even launch off the line IN boost, with it, but I didnt have it enabled for this video. Get a T3 3071R you wont regret it!
She really can run with the best of them. Amazing the HP that we can get out of these engines per liter. I'm getting about 200 BHP per liter right now on my 1.8t and that is amazing. They really are the little engines that could! 1.8T's Never Lose!
More, more, more!!! More videos!
The venerable Disco Potato (GT28) is out!
GT30 is the way to beat hands-down newer Focus RS, MK6 Golf R and Evo Xs. And way cheaper too! Type Rs and lesser Hondas don't get even close.
