To maintain population you either have to make babies or import them (as part of families).
This is what happens when people neglect traditional values. Women, men, both should have equal rights, I understand, but it's not sexist to say let wives take care of their children and husbands go out to work. This is a problem in this larger issue & no one is talking about: When larger families were normative, systems of kinship support arose naturally. People were used to have a large body of aunties, uncles, cousins, etc. to rely on for support. This is no longer the case & people have lost the knack for living that way. The main problem is that in industrial(China,India) and modernising societies(Latin America, Middle east) we do not observe this decline yet, while it would be immensely necessary for non-renewable ressource preservation. Ha! Well I like to try and ensure a reasonably civiilsed debate and looking through some posts on this video am deleting some that I think are racist and offensive. Trouble is with 1.2 million video views on YouTube alone it is hard to keep pace with all comments posted!
could this be, in part, because of the incredibly high cost of living due to the welfare apparatuses that the EU governments support with high taxation?
Sorry for the double post, i didn't see my topic a few days later and thought it didn't go through. It's my understanding that France has responded to this by some type of tax relief on very fertile couples. Still it shifts the burden from on another individual to support somebody else's existence.
I agree it would have an effect but on the other hand if one looks at the Scandinavian welfare model the cost of living is extremely high as is taxation, yet there is no demographic crisis. Where taxation is used to provide services such as childcare and longer maternity leave fertility is stable. Therefore it is disingenuous to blame the ageing population on the EU welfare model.
Thanks for debate on Europeans dying off, Asia families growing etc. These are sensitive and controversial issues - because of course what happens in reality is migration as we have seen in the 4 years since the video was recorded. Over 1 million people into the UK in the last few years to compensate for the fact that numbers of babies per couple has been falling. To maintain population you either have to make babies or import them (as part of families).

This is what happens when people neglect traditional values. Women, men, both should have equal rights, I understand, but it's not sexist to say let wives take care of their children and husbands go out to work. It keeps the family strong, healthy, and allows larger families to sustain themselves. People are just too selfish these days. The only groups growing are immigrants, particularly Muslims in Europe. Last thing we need is a European Muslim caliphate. A great culture will forever be gone.

This has little to do with liberalism and a lot to do with industrialization. When a country is fully industrialized most of it's population becomes middle class. Middle class means 0-2 children instead of 8 or 9. You no longer need kids to work on your family farm. I'll take a population decline in a place that let's me do what I want and won't kill you for being a certain religion, gay, a drinker, etc. over living in a rural, third-world, shit country.

@aviomaster Russia actually has one of the lowest fertility rates in the world, paired with one of the highest mortality rates. In the last few years it's been losing over 100'000 people per annum so I wouldn't exactly say they're doing everything they can.

This is a problem in this larger issue & no one is talking about: When larger families were normative, systems of kinship support arose naturally. People were used to have a large body of aunties, uncles, cousins, etc. to rely on for support. This is no longer the case & people have lost the knack for living that way. We can't just subsidize larger families b/c merely spotting gov't money to families doesn't apply actual care physically to the children.

I have 7 kids,and we just had twins in 2008 in our mid 40s through IFV...The left over 8 frozen embryos were adopted by a nice Christian couple wanting to start a big family..There are 500,000 embryos waiting in American to be adopted,left over from successful Ivf procedures...

Should point out that white americans also produce at almost replacement level ( 1.8) and many hispanics are actually white. About 1/4 of hispanics are of fully european roots ( mostly spain/italy). If you include white hispanics, who are just latin europeans, the white birthrate in the usa is just at replacement level. Massive immigration however will make whites a minority by 2050 though.

That's fair enough; but I hope you and others realise that all of these figures are askew? There are numerous reports which show that immigrants do not comprise such a vast number. I'm not saying this contentiously, it's just a fact - one that is exaggerated. Some people in the UK fret that the country is being "handed over", but the Muslim population in Britain is only 3% (and they are the largest foreign demographic). Numbers are always blown out of proportion.

If the figure for the white population was so slender 100 years ago, then I fail to see how it will alter now. The population of each race is estimated to grow - that is incontrovertible. Culturally we are having by far more of an influence; the very fact that the majority of the world speaks English well or as a weaker second language testifies the influence we have. Not to mention the western values, be it film, music, literature, education etc. Culture I see as even less of an issue: many adopt - even if not entirely - a degree of western cultural elements. I agree, Streetfight1982. Germany is crying out for specialists and engineer's, but imports an unskilled and unqualified workforce which is living from benefits. Germany will not be for long anymore competitive on the world market. Apart from all that, every 5th child in Germany grows up in poverty, which means that they will not be properly integrated in society and grow up in dysfunctional families. One can see that already in Berlin, but it is being labelled as multi culturism.

i believe that europe should stay european, by this i mean that non europeans should be told to either leave or relocated to their place of origin (and compensated accordingly of course), i also believe that incentive should be produced for indo-european families that produce more than 2 kids, i.e. tax cuts, paid vacations, higher pensions etc...just my opinion....

NS Germany even put prisoners to work, not just picking up paper. Building roads and bridges..the fatherland made good use of these men. On top of the millions of hours of labor, the men were instilled with better qualities+skills to go back into society with. In the US because of labor unions..we must keep all prisoners in jail (75k per year) instead of having them rebuild our roads+help with construction projects. Then they had less young people, and more old people. Then things went farther because of pensions. So then there was a missing generation after the kids of the baby boomers. The problem isn't a decline in European population growth. The main problem is that in industrial(China,India) and modernising societies(Latin America, Middle east) we do not observe this decline yet, while it would be immensely necessary for non-renewable ressource preservation. Consumption levels are the real problem, not falling birthrates.
Not many people expect to have pensions today, many of us know that they will work well in their 70, because of the improvement in medical care.

There are a lot of singles in Europe. Globalisation, relocation for job to different cities even countries makes it harder for young people in Europe to have a child. Older people and schools should advise younger to copulate more otherwise goverment will force older people to work till their 70's.

The USA is alone among industrialized nations in its relatively rapid population increase. The highest in fact. The populations in Japan and Russia are expected to shrink almost one-fourth by 2050. Germany, Italy and most European nations are not making enough babies to keep their populations from sliding. China will not grow much either because of the One-Child Policy. India will increase to almost 2 billion people by 2050. The USA will have a population of around 450 million by 2050.

Hmm. Not correct actually. You need 2.3 children per couple because some do not form relationships. Some children and young adults do not live long enough to have children of their own. One in 10 children will grow up bilogically unable to have children. That is why you need around 2.3 children born per couple to have a stable population. I agree it would have an effect but on the other hand if one looks at the Scandinavian welfare model the cost of living is extremely high as is taxation, yet there is no demographic crisis. Where taxation is used to provide services such as childcare and longer maternity leave fertility is stable. Therefore it is disingenuous to blame the ageing population on the EU welfare model.
