i just bought this kit and cant wait to get started. my girlfriend is an electronic noise musicial so i will definitely be modifying it so she can use it in shows, if she ever decides to play out doors!
I suppose it is a nice device. I am sorry to be such a snot-nosed jerk. I love little oscillators, and have built a few of my own. With skill, it can indeed be used in a musical sense, and to great effect.
On second thought, after reading more comments, maybe it was the group "Project Pimento's" rendition of the Star Trek theme at the beginning; their thereminist Robby Virus is excellent and one of the few capable of such good accuracy.
Yes as I mentioned earlier this is Project Pimento's version. Robby Virus is a wonder ad compliments Lola Bombay's beautiful voice wonderfully. BTW I in no way intended anyone to think that was the device playing. Did anyone think that? no. thought not. As for the 'toy' accusation. What's wrong with toys :) I would describe it as an inspirational toy. Something a musician can carry around and fool around with in fun and creative ways. It IS a fully functional musical instrument though.
The Star Trek theme never used a theremin. It was the voice of Loulie Jean Norman. The Star Trek theme used at the start of this video probably wasn't a theremin either; more likely a synthesizer, owing to the pitch accuracy and sine-like timbre. In any case, this little "theremin wannabe" device, with it's awful sound, was not used for the intro music, although the maker seems to want you to believe it was. This thing is really a toy in every respect.
watch at 2:19 into the video. That would be the future Nintendo DS. ... but seriously congrats on building the most annoying thing ever and showing us how to build it and annoy everybody in the world with this.
why oh why!?! You are correct the other one was pretty annoying, but at least with this one you have more range to play with... maybe even approach musicality!?
you didn't like my polyphonic rendition of 'prelude to outer-space' then? In my defence I'd only just created the device .. was just puting it through its paces and figuring out what you could and couldn't do with it. With luck someone with some actual musical talent will post a vid of the thing in action.
I bought the kit but I want to know how to modify it, inserting the jack.

I think the po po could pull someone over with that thing mounted to their cars. It sounds just like a siren. Pull over the theremin cops are coming.
