  • What kind of vise is that???

  • would this be a good fly for sea trout and salmon cruizing the shores in saltwater,

im planning on doing some flyfishing in the saltwater for sea trout and what ever may want to take my flies so i was wondering if you could recomend some flies!

  • Hi FisherManStan88,

It would certainly take seatrout but the fussy salmon would be a bit harder to encourage to take but I'm sure it would if they were looking for something..When I fished for seatrout in the sea the best flies for me were Teal Blue and Silver, Silver Stoat, Sweeny Todd, Dunkeld and a rabbit pattern I have on youtube..But we don't have any seatrout in our estuary's due to salmon farms which spread sealice along our shores...

I hope this is of some help to you..

    Davie

  • Nice fly! looks like a anchovi patern i bought..good looking probably kills stripers on the beach

  • hi Davie,

it isn't one of your favourites flies, am I right? cause I know, that you can do this better...

  • Hi TheAdamGie,

I wouldn't say that it was the best one that I ever tyed but I know the fish liked it as it caught a few. I could tye a hundred of these just as I would like them to look but when you go to film the tying of it there's always something not right...

    All the best Davie

  • @DavieMcPhail

    Hi Davie,

I can say that your fly tying movies are the best into the net. I agree - fishess decides about flies.

    Best regards from Poland,

    Adam

  • Oh and Davie, beautiful job and great video as always.

  • @crunxxxx in the uk we catch em on hook and line very well... what is a cast net?

  • @timhemp The guy that replied to you was from the US. I know the name "mullet" is given to several different species of fish all over the world. The mullet he was referring to is a baitfish we have on the east coast (US) that lives mostly in inland bodies of water such as tidal creeks, sounds, and coastal estuaries. I'm sure the mullet you have in England is a different fish that is catchable on rod and reel. A cast net is a circular net you throw. There are tons of cast net vids on here.

  • would this fly work on mullit?

  • Hi timhemp,

I tyed this fly for Bass and Pollock which will normally take small fish but I'm not sure about Mullet just give them a go and let me know....

    All the best Davie

  • @DavieMcPhail

I really doubt any of mullet species around the UK and Ireland will take this fly regardless of what mood they're in, they are not aggressive predators. Small nymphs, czech nymphs and maggot representations can work if the mullet are feeding on the right things already and I've even heard of people having success using small sections of peacock herl tied so they protrude from the hook (perhaps they imitate clumps of algae).

  • @bilaffan The most success Ive had, although it requires groundbaiting, is to use a bread fly which either floats or sinks very slowly. Its extremely simple to tie, just dub on some loose white wool or cotton. Flared white deer hair can work too. The trick is to get them feeding on the bread first. If you're in the right place at the right time of year and the fish arent too skittish you should get a lot of action.

  • @timhemp thanks dave for the great vid i will let you know how i get :)

  • @timhemp unlikely, mullet feed on small invertebrstes and the like, not really predatory

  • Now is the Apoxy a product that comes ready or do you like to mix two products together? Where can you get that?

  • Hi cancerkid888,

The apoxy I used on the fly is one that you mix in two parts.. I am now looking at buying the one that you only need to use a UV light to set it and funnily enough I got a card from a friend at the weekend with details of the gentleman to contact. I will send you his website address as I can'y show it here..

    All the best Davie
