  • I don't see how my comment was spam. I simply asked for the piano part so i can practice...

  • Could you possibly send me the sheet music for this or tell me where you found it? I'd love to take a look at it.. Its an Amazing piece. My email is solanablantz@yahoo.com. Please and thank you :)

  • How do you play the stopped G with T12? It always seems to play G# instead. Thank you :) I'm playing this for my solo this year, thanks to your awesome video.

  • @MelloSymantha Different ebouchre can result in different tones, also the french horn is possibly the greatest instrument when it comes to alternate fingerings. Even more so when it's stopped, because you can bend the pitch up or down.

  • I have been playing for 4 months and I think it's gonna take me some time to get as good as him !!!

  • I really loved this. I'm made my decision on playing this for my state solo and ensemble. Thank you!

    Mashiro.Moritaka13@gmail.com

  • Mr. Park, you are an inspiration to me! I always come to your videos whenever I'm working on a solo, and they always help me! Keep on making videos, because it is guys like you who I'm thankful that play the French Horn! You rock!

    drayh900@yahoo.com

  • I played trumpet for... I guess around 5 or 6 years. since half a year or what I stopped with trumpet and started with bes/f horn. yesterday I had to give my borrowed horn back and got my brand new damned own one!!! <33 I really liked trumpet and I like horn way better. hope I get as good as you one day!!

  • I really enjoyed this piece!

Can you please send me the file.

    sly_waldo@yahoo.com

  • Where can I find sheet music for this @Ohsteacher?

  • Excellent!! Very stylish! I really enjoyed it!

  • I love this piece. I played it in the 7th grade for a ratings festival. I got superior(that's the highest you can get). I started playing horn in the 6th grade.

  • hello! I'm a self-taught hornist. I've been playing for three years, and I have an important audition coming up. do you have any suggestions for a piece?

  • @shmeepfox consider playing morsieu de concert, for french horn in F. I played it my sophomore year, and it was fantastic. hope the audition goes well!

  • @shmeepfox Get a teacher, self teaching can only really bring you to a certain level, sorry :P

  • lol that room has horrible acoustics

  • i've been playing horn for less than a year, im in the band and im in 8th grade, it's soo hard to get such a good horn sound.

  • @videowizdude I've been playing horn for 4 years and it takes a huge ammount of work to get a good sound. Really focus on what you're playing, even if it's just one note. Muscle memory will also start to come to you and it'll get easier. The horn is one of the hardest instruments to play, but you just have to keep going and it'll get there. Good luck!! (:

  • Thank you so much for putting this video up, i Played this peice for a district solo actually im doing it for state in a few weeks also, but this has been such a massive help in my learing of this peice.

I just felt the need to thank you for it.

  • i like this tune, i'm playing it for solo & ensombol......i wish i sounded this good.

  • Would you be willing to give criticism on a performance of this song if I were to post a video response?

  • I heard this played at a year 12 recital...before....I really like this song....<3...though I play flute I still really love this.......

  • ive been playing horn for 5 years now hearing people this good just inspires me to get better

  • well im plaing a solo name a tear by moussorsky and if you can play a viideo of you plaing it to see how its sepos to sounde

  • this makes so much more sense then how i was playing this before.... this song is really hard :/

  • You emulate the drunk man very well!

  • Amazing! You play with such ease. Bravo! I really enjoy your rendition. Thank you for posting!

  • i love this song <3 ive been playing for almost 6 years, really want to learn this!! <3

  • What college do you teach at Steve? I'd like to go there and be taught by you lol.

  • Oh, how I wish I could play that divine instrument....

  • I must say, you are phenomenal at playing the French Horn! I've played Trumpet since I was in 5th grade (I'm a Junior now) and my Sophomore year I decided to switch to the Mellophone (upon recommendation from my director) for marching band, and now I like it more than Trumpet. This video makes me want to play it again.

  • What? Two people don't like this? Awwww, come on ... what's not to like?

  • @beforhorn people who just hate the fact that there is always someone better than them.

  • Hey you did an awesome job and i'm gonna rate this video five stars. And if you want you want you to make a super mario theme song: Now, I play the tenor saxophone, so if you want to try to find sheet music or if you can do it by using your ear that would be nice too. But do you teach just the horn or a whole band? GO TENOR SAXOPHONES AND FRENCH HORNS. Also, do you know how to play a tenor saxophone? If you do, play some songs on it and post them if you want to. Thanks!

  • i started playing in sixth

  • could you send me the partition for that? i've been looking and i didn't find it

  • this solo has so much character, i love it :D

  • any tips on how to practice good stopped horn?? I can never quite get the seal all the way with my hand. It doesn't quite have that buzz that you can get from using a mute. I don't want to have to be constantly relying on a mute for a good loud stopped sound

  • Very inspiring, thanks for posting all of these videos :)

  • ive sat here and listened to all of your videos and i think u r my favorite horn player ever!!!

u inspire to keep working hard so that one day ill be as great of a player as u

  • I notice you place the mouthpiece slightly to the left of your mouth. It doesn't seem to have affected your playing though!

  • hi, what fingerings do you use for the when you go from stopped to open?

  • do you have sheet music? I really like this piece..or do you have anything you would would recomend that will showcase talent in a small amout of time? im doing a scholarship program and I only have about two minutes

  • this is great! im hoping to start playing the french horn again, i did in 5th-7th but quit. im going into my 10th year and i really need to get back into the swing, haha. i cant slur or really play well, but im trying my best. also, i cant hit the higher notes with out it sounding like some farting noise!

sorry for the pointless ramble, but youre very good. i only hope to play as well as you one day. thanks for the video.

  • i love this solo, thank you for demonstrating a fantastic way to play this piece of music, I remember playing this for state solo and ensemble two years ago as a sophomore, its a really fun piece to play, especially near the end when the music sounds like laughter at around 5:13. i miss playing french horn

  • what's that last note??

  • @bandgurl55 High B natural!

  • Great, thanks for your performance. It's not easy to play horn.

  • Very nice. When did you start playing the horn?

  • 7th grade - back when dinosaurs roamed the earth. Before that I played trumpet for three years.

  • @ohsteacher that nice of you starting at the trumpet, they said start at the trumpet first before you go french horn, so that you can reach high notes easily

  • @ohsteacher that's a god one " back when the dinosaurs roamed the earth .

  • @ohsteacher you rock I just started playing french horn last year.. but I prefer piano. btw YOU ROCK!

  • beautiful.

    i love 2:34-3:00

  • is this this piece in 12/8 time? jus wondering

  • ive been playing for 3 years and i really liked this music so for my birthday my parents orderd it for me.... its going to be alot of work... oh and im in a band at hendersonville high school and we are going to chicago next thusday to play against the top 12 bands in the nation.. im excited

  • i got a 1 in s&e with this solo !!! :DDDD

  • you play high a-flat open?

  • @hobybobag3 no?

  • @MrChumsx4 he did though =\

  • Wow ive been playing Feench horn for two years and This guy makes me wan to practice ten times more

  • @Kateisback2009

    I'm sayin' haha

  • do you know any latin horn solos?

  • Probably the same reason that people who aren't into turbocharged engines don't off hand know what an automatic compensating wastegate is on a turbocharged airplane. Why would the general public know such a thing? Why would the general public know what the heck a "stopped horn" is, when many don't know a french horn from a cornet. You get the idea ;)

  • Wow how come no one knows what stopped horn is?

  • @phantomdark2031

I just tried stopped horn today. FANTASTIC!!!!

I should do it all the time. :DDDD

  • i absolutely LOVE the French Horn im playing it this year!

  • how does it make that weird noise? buzzing sort of noise?

  • it all matters on the hand postion in the bell

  • its called a hand stop you close your hand over the bell

  • Im currently a sophmore in high school and im working on "Concertpiece" by Camille Saint-Saens.

If you know anything of the song some hints would be appreciated. Its a fun song for me because last solo i worked on was "Concert Rondo" by Mozart and that somewhat bored me after awhile.

  • :S im playing this tomorrow for my grade 8.

the pedal G and the gliss Bbs and Bs at the end are a bit hit or miss =/

but this is really fun to play :)

  • AMAZING!!!!!!!!!!! I am playing this piece today for my Grade 8 french horn exam and it's been so good to listen to you play this. You have such a good high and low register, i'm afraid i'm stuck with a good high and terrible low, that Pedal G is awful for me but you make it all sound so easy!!!!! And i love the Legato section you have such a lovely tone.

  • You are an amazing french horn player!! My band director told us to find a good musician with good tone and articulations to try and imitate and use as an inspiration, and you're definitely mine!! You have a very clear, clean tone and it sounds really nice. :)

  • how are you doing the stoped decend at 5.15

  • I just move my hand from closed to open quickly on each note. I don't change fingerings.

  • To go from the stopped G to the open A you play the stopped G thumb plus 1st & 2nd valves. ( F# fingering on Bb side) Then just swing your hand open and it goes right to the A.

  • thanx very much i have been trying it out :)

  • I ment you are supose to play it a half step down when stopped.

  • That's exactly what he does, very good.

  • Steve what you have done is very cool and emphasis the power of the internet. Ive had Hunters Moon in my library for ages, but never really looked at it. Now Im determined to work it up and will use your video to check for where to breathe and other details like fingers. Thanks for creating such a valuable tool for us Horn players.

  • I am the only horn player in a school of more than 2000 students and this is an extremely hard instrument. I have been playing for about 7 months and i was wondering if you can give me some tips to play. And amazing playing i hope i'm as good as you someday.

  • how do you do that weird sound at 1:21 and 1:41???

  • I want sheet music for it ._.;

  • I don't send out copies of music that are copyrighted. It's easy to go on line and buy the music, and it doesn't cost much. If you play horn and would like a practice recording of the accompaniment to any of my posted solos, let me know and I can send you an mp3 file.

  • You really demonstrated the horn's tonal resources. Great! Your accompanist did a great job, too.

  • Nice :)

im dong this song for my grade 8 but cant quite get the pedal G in the slower part. Any tips on how to get it? Ive been trying for ages to get it but i can only get teh pedal A.

    x

  • *sigh* One day I WILL be that amazing...

  • how do you make the sound at 1:48 care to teach me? thanks!

  • It's called "stopped horn". You do it by sealing the opening of the bell with your hand. You need to find someone to show you. It's hard to explain. You also have to use alternate fingerings. Send me a message if you want more details.

  • Is it appropriate to play the note 1/2 step above the note on the music when playing stopped? If I'm off base, can you point me in a direction for a great text source for study? I'm a university music major (Primary instrument: voice), but I want to be the best on Horn as I possibly can. :)

  • Oscar Franz complete methods for horn is good. As well as Farkas. You have supose to play the note a half step down when stopped.

  • your music style is similer mine. sounds good~

  • Wow, you sound amazing, could you make a video of Hindemith Horn Sonata?

  • The Hindemith is on my list, so it will show up here eventually.

  • I remember playing my freshman year of high school four years ago for solo and ensemble contest. It was probably the funnest solo I've ever played. I wish I had seen this video then for tips. This is an amazing preformance.

  • Wow!

I am a horn player in high school and am playing this piece for my solo this year. I am totally inspired now to play it like you do! You make it look so easy!!! Great Job!

  • I am TOTALLY inspired to go and hunt some bears now. ^_^

  • awesome! i love this piece!

  • Thanks! Be sure to check out my other horn videos.

  • Great Job!
