Our economy isn't built on technological innovation. Innovation is simply the oil that allows the true engine of our economy, debt spending, to continue ad infinitum (or should I say ad collapsium).

Extracting oil and creating combustion engines has been a huge technological advancement.
But as you say, they now surf on this achievement.
