You didn't say much about the amplifier. Which tubes did you use? Is it an OTL design and how much if any negative feedback did you use? The setup seems nice but I doubt the actual speaker position benefits anyone. Unless they are compression boxes, you certainly won't be able to make them sound good located with a shelf and guitars on the wall behind them.
I still want to build a tube amp just for fun. I posted a year ago saying i wanted to but I didnt get around to it.
I did find a few Dynaco clone kits online so I might go for one unless you've come across other kits you can recommend. I also found a single ended unit that was very well regarded (decware I think it was called) but its a bit too expensive.
PS. Did you build the amps from kits or from scratch?
Well, since you have no information on the dimensions of the listening room, (lenght, width, height), or the amount and placement of adsorbent, absorbent or reflective surfaces I wonder how you came to this conclusion?
You guys are dumb.go into a dj booth and see what they have.they have tube amps that will blow you off of this planet.I have amps but I would give anything for a good tube amp.this is coming from somebody who knows his shit.everything from reel to reel tape players to top notch kick ass car audio.
you asked how it blow away the cd player it just sounds a lot more like true stereo, the voices and mids sound stronger and grasping more range, I use a pair of dynaco A25's they love the lp
You have to be a little philosopical about this. Listening to a nice cd-player is like watcing an event on a very good hd-tv. Listening to a record player is like watching the same event through your window. It may be a little dirty, but its LIVE, and natural
Ahh, You're quite entitled to your opinion tharrington, but the fact is that this equipment was built to spec about three years ago. so, old? no. Shit? not to my ears
digiman, i like your passion for good equipment. You really dont need to respond to fools that have no idea what u truely have although its hard not to respond to their ignorance.
tharrington11, I can't believe you would insult this mans great system. I would think you would have a high end system also. When I looked you say you have Logitech speakers ! WoW, I would not bring attention to that.
I notice that you insist that my setup is old... perhaps you have a reading problem. Its quite new. about three years old. And handbuilt. Is it a problem for you that tube equipment is still built, and listend to, in great quantity?
i love turntable lovers, the tone bursts drum rolls and highs all sound better on the turntable, getting a new stylus helped clean out the highs on my a lot, simply blows away my sony ES series cd player , i like this guys set up because its very individualized, its not just some typical high end system that sometimes puts out harsh tone bursts for what they claim is technical accuracy. his set up reminds me of the value of rotel amps combined with vintage hk pre amps and a pair of dynaco A25s
I can answer your question. I have a few vinyl albums that I also have the CD for.
The turntable is a Rega with an MC cartridge, the CD player is a Pioneer elite with 2 Burr Brown DACs, the amp and pre amp are using Tubes.
Listening to good quality vinyl sounds like music in the room, the same thing on CD sounds like a recording of music, even an SACD. The vinyl copy is a true reproduction of the music, the CD is a digitised and compressed version. The difference is remarkable.
I won't argue with you ..I too love my vinyl ..and I still can't put my finger on it . CD seems to have the clarity and brightness ..no crackles & pops , no rumble ...but with a good record on the player , I just want to listen , to sing , to dance even ... I just can't explain it ..
Mine is better MINE! I have a BSR turntable that was PRECISION BUILT IN GREAT BRITAIN. It plays 78s and has a rap around stylus that has 2 NEEDLES IN ONE stylus! It sounds so much better than this junk with my Soundesign receiver! It has 475 watts on the back so its so much better than this one.
and 2 needles in one stylus is better ? lol my dual 1229Q would blow your little bsr away :P hahaha its all about the platter rumble stats and tonearm, his table looks pretty nice
don't you laugh at Soundesign. It has crome on the front and even lights that are green and everything. It even has a tone control with a simulated wood vineer. It was $29.00 new so there!
Yep, separarate power source for pre and power. Thats the only way to go :-) Im using nordost Flatline Magic One for signal. 2.5mm solid core copper for speakers.
Very sweet setup my friend. I'm very impressed that you built your own amp and preamp. I've also always been curious about going analog. One day I might :)
@svtcontour BUM BOY VIRGIN CUNT DODGER YOU HAVE NO IDEA AND YOUR FULL OF SHIT......THE ONLY THING YOU KNOW HOW TO DO IS TO REPEL WOMEN AND ATTRACT MEN AND CHILDREN
very nice system i must say, i just got into audio about 4 years ago and have built speakers and own cables etc, and its the best thing i have ever taken up, i am only 17 now and its the best thing ever, admiring your system, i want a tube amp!
It was playing a record! :-) But I dont really see the point in "recording" the sound and reproduce it on youtube, infinetly compressed, through lousy pc speakers.
That's all good, but how does it sound!!!

Where's your iPod? Where's the NAS? Did you rip the records to FLAC or ALAC?

@hawaiijim
Ipod? Aaah, anything below 1441Kb/s is not worth listening to. NAS? ???. Vinyl to FLAC? Thats downgrading.
