we had a mare at the barn drop a foal out in the pasture in 12/30/11, no one knew she was preg. stupid vet didnt know either. but the owner put her on one handfull of grain a day, hoping she would loose weight, she did, when she still jumped her, and everything. We all felt so bad that we didnt know she was pregnant, good thing was, there where no problems with the baby! shes all heathy ( both of em) out inthe outdoor arena untill the baby is weaned.
She is beautiful!! I rode my mare when she was in foal up until 8months and we hacked out and did fun stuff as a break from all her hard work, the foal is almost 2yrs old now and no complications happened. They aren't china dolls it's lovely too see people with common sense xx
@trickhorses It is, when we ourselves get pregnant do we lock ourselves in our rooms and not come out, go out with friends, keep fit etc? We sure do and doctors encourage us to continue exercising whilst pregnant as it is good for mother and child, but people think they know everything nowadays so what can you do?
Can I ask, doesn't she pull any of her tail out when she gets up from lying down? She is an absolute stunning mare! Bet she has the most gorgeous foals!
@Pretender771 - oh give me a break. It does not. My family has been breeding show horses for over 30 years. It doesn't break a mare down to have foals every year. We don't breed our mares past 16 years of age. I know most people breed them in their 20's. That has to be the most ridiculous comment yet
@kompuiheartsu - she is my life. If she wasn't so big, she would be living in the house with me. I can not put into words how much this horse means to me. She is my heart horse.
I don't know why people think her mane and tail are down when she is at home. Her hair is NEVER down when she is home. It is braided up really short all the time. She can't step on it when it is braided. She is an outside horse - lives outside 24/7. I am looking at her right now - covered in mud and enjoying life. Just so you know, the long manes and tails are part of the breed. If you don't appreciate long hair, then this will never be the breed for you.
@trickhorses oh that's really exemplary to let such an amazing breeding mare live outside 7 h a day!! really great!!! i do not know many horse breeders who do that like you and who loves their horses like you do.. there should be more people like you!!! i looove you channel!! subbed :)♥
beautiful mare, all the best with her future foals :)! would be worried about her tail at night though! a girl i know left her horse's tail really long and it lay down in the stable, when it went to get back up, it stood on its tail, shunted itself out and ripped out half its tail!
@trickhorses ah good stuff! we have gypsy cobs on our yard in scotland but sadly the yard owner insists on cutting their manes short! my own horse is a cross from the appleby fair but he's more fine, but has retained the thick mane and tail, its a strange combo haha!
-stares at the gypsy queen- 0o0 beauuuutiful.... i want to buy 1 of her foals but my mum says her foals r probably expensive still though she is beauuutiful...... (i know i said tht twice)
@malmiranda - Her babies are gorgeous. You should see her 2010 filly - Lilly. She is STUNNING! She is heavy in foal now and due to foal in May to the stallion Villa Vanners Romeo - he is a gorgeous palomino stallion.
@MegaInulover - I use Healthy HairCare Moisterizer. It is an orange oil that you mix with water and it turns pink. I think it is like 1 part oil to 4 parts water. But anyhow whatever it calls for on the label for mixing, I make it stronger.
@MegaInulover Keeping it clean and tangle free is also a key. Knots cause breakage. Keeping it clean and braided helps allot. That is what we did with all our halter horses. We only brushed when it was full of conditioner, never dry which also breaks it.
@bignick1982 - I would love to get her running in the field. Only problem is her mane is so long that if she puts her head down she will step on it and rip it out. I have thought of just braiding her hair and doing video but then I think that would lose the affect of that beautiful mane flowing in the wind. I will see if I can get a video in the future as I think she would look magnificent on film running around
WOW this horse is GORGEOUS! I've never seen such a BEAUTIFUL gypsy vanner horse! A real GYPSY QUEEN!!! How big is she and how many foals has she had (sorry, I'm from Germany...) she's pregnant in the video, isn't she? Oh men, what would I give for such a stunning horse...♥ luv your homepage, too.
@BlaqkJackal - It is actually atleast 6" shorter now then in that video. I cut it last time I took it down about 6 months ago. It is still long. just not as long. I have to keep her tail braided up short anyways because when she goes the bathroom, she gets it all over her tail. People don't realize that her tail grows 3 times faster then most horses. So I cut it and it just grows back within a few months. I can relate. My own hair is the same way
yeah i remember when one of the times in my childhood going horse back riding and one of the patch horses were pregnet I guess there were sister both on the same trail or something the said and i was out there same time riding when heard about the one horse preg being riden and i'd say pretty farish very fat horse XD
cobs are the most beautiful horse beed! i use to love frisans i still do but cobs are my life they are a real confidence giver and they are so sweet natured and willing to please. i love them <3
Sooo gorgeous....i am jealous, are they a smooth gaited breed, do you wash the mail freaquently or use a leave in conditioner? Does that help it grow or just keep it manageable and clean?
@dear1751 - I use healthy hair care moiserizer. I wash it everytime I take it down which is every 3 months. The secret is keeping it well conditioned to help it grow faster.
I'm just wondering but I heard it wasn't good for the foal if you rode the mother while she was pregnant... I heard it from someone so I just took their opinion... But is it good or bad for the foal?
@HorseLuvaWWELuva - It is perfectly fine to do light riding on a pregnant mare. In fact if the mare is a show mare and is used to staying fit, the best thing you can do for her is keep her fit. Light riding meaning walk and trot or trail riding. It doesn't harm the foal at all either. You can ask any vet. Think about it. You see pregnant mares in a pasture galloping around all on their own almost everyday.
@trickhorses some peoples children, probably being drunk! I have a gypsy mare here in canada, shes brilliant, also almost same colouring as yours i think! love the victorian costume! gives me some ideas for riding! ...
@Darkangelmmortalwin - oh I don't. The comments are by my approval. So the ridiculous, immature comments just get deleted and I move on. I don't have the time to educate the uneducated. :-)
@trickhorses mmmyes. that sounds like the perfect plan! hahhaha and little do they know that light riding helps with the birthing process. I mean, help a lady out, you know? haha I remember we rode our mare, Lucy, cus she was overdue. haha a week later POP goes the pony ;)
@trickhorses so u dont know anyone that has a trick to get it to grow... My arab has around a foot long mane and aout a 3 or 4 foot tail both pretty thick but i want his mane to be longer but idk how to make it grow cuz it doesnt grow that much... ive had him for a year and its grown an inch maybe, his tail grew about 2 feet but nothin with his mane...
@1233Maya - The only trick I know is keeping it braided, tangle free and keeping the roots soaked in hair moisterizer. I grew out my TB's tail until it dragged and I had 2 minis I grew tails to 9 feet long. Of course I later cut it off. But I got all their hair to grow by keeping it well conditioned at all times
@trickhorses like leave in the conditinor? or do you have to buy specil stuff. and do u mean like french brade of just brade it like from the tail bone down.
@1233Maya - yes. I use healthy hair care hair moisterizer. I just do single braids all the way down and then bring it up and weave it back through the mane.
@MsMusik11 - TRANSLATION - I think if the mane and the tail does not always Comb but rather only the nodes a little plucks apart and if what is in it takes out grows the much faster, so it is at least on my horse, I do not comb over and within half the mane one month is already grown quite a bit. Sure, man, they sometimes have to comb at times, but not every time, because there are so many rip out hair, the prop would have to grow
@BunnyzAreHot - LOL. yeah I have alot of equus on Howrse. I am the #1 wealthiest player on Howrse. Only took me like 800+ days to get there but I got there- haha
She is one of the two reasons why I want to have Gypsy vanners...the other reason is Romney King. I think the two of them together would make beautiful babies. :)
@MissMerMer1980 - I have a pictures of her foals on her website down at the bottom. The website is thegypsyqueen(dot)com or you can google The Gypsy Queen, Gypsy Vanner and she should show up.
@LeaderStorm - I have been going to the Equine Affaire since 1999. The Gypsy Queen has been there every year with the exception of last year I didn't take her. I am not sure yet if I am taking her in 2012.
OMG i've never seen a gypsy with that long of hair before. I worked at a summer camp where we had a three year gelding and it took forever to groom him.
@giddyup4me - her mane was 3 feet @ 22 months, then 5 feet @ 5 years of age. It was 6 feet by the time she was 6 yrs of age. I have pretty much kept it at 6 feet every year after, she is 11 now. I just keep it trimmed, otherwise, it would be dragging the ground. Her hair just grows really fast! The key is keeping the hair well conditioned at the roots & keeping it detangled. Don't brush it. Just use your fingers or use a comb gently. When it starts to get really long, then you braid it.
OMG im speechless i love her very pretty

@MsMusik11 - TRANSLATION - I think if the mane and the tail does not always Comb but rather only the nodes a little plucks apart and if what is in it takes out grows the much faster, so it is at least on my horse, I do not comb over and within half the mane one month is already grown quite a bit. Sure, man, they sometimes have to comb at times, but not every time, because there are so many rip out hair, the prop would have to grow

She is one of the two reasons why I want to have Gypsy vanners...the other reason is Romney King. I think the two of them together would make beautiful babies. :)
MissMerMer1980 5 months ago
@MissMerMer1980 - LOL! her first foal was actually sired by Romany King! We named her Tiara because she had a crown marking on her forehead! :-)

Do you still go? You should so I can see her in person. xD She's super pretty. She's got the prettiest mane. Wow.
LeaderStorm 5 months ago
@LeaderStorm - I have been going to the Equine Affaire since 1999. The Gypsy Queen has been there every year with the exception of last year I didn't take her. I am not sure yet if I am taking her in 2012.

OMG i've never seen a gypsy with that long of hair before. I worked at a summer camp where we had a three year gelding and it took forever to groom him.

wow so beautiful how long did it take for her main to get that long?? any tips on how to help my mare she never can grow it more then a few inches
giddyup4me 5 months ago
@giddyup4me - her mane was 3 feet @ 22 months, then 5 feet @ 5 years of age. It was 6 feet by the time she was 6 yrs of age. I have pretty much kept it at 6 feet every year after, she is 11 now. I just keep it trimmed, otherwise, it would be dragging the ground. Her hair just grows really fast! The key is keeping the hair well conditioned at the roots & keeping it detangled. Don't brush it. Just use your fingers or use a comb gently. When it starts to get really long, then you braid it.
