My husband...against my non-legal advise took out a loan to pay off another loan...

He has the home and two vehicles. The only thing of any value is the home which they own anyway and always will. He was told that the loan would be based solely on his signature as though he has no assets. What does that mean? His labor is the only asset. What if he can't work? Can you say labor camp?

there is a method of payment called accepted for value that you can look up that relates to this. it is a method of paying off debts/loans.
