  • I love orange but over priced you would expect something at that price to be prefect out of the box to my ear the bugera v5 i just bought is better at half the price and I have a moded epip jr with ext cab that will blow that ad5 away orange was great at one time now seems like snobey over priced ok quality stuff

  • I dunno, I'm disappointed in this amp. I don't like how it sounds when the tubes break up. Kind of got this bubbly tin crunch. Bleh...to each his own I suppose.

  • don't like the prs...

  • how is this amp for sucha blues and ac dc?

  • is it possible to connect it to a cabinet?

  • Really hot girl, Orange amps, PRS custom 24........I need to have a cigarette after watching this video.

  • is it a valve amp or solid state?

  • @lawrence096 pretty sure its a valve amp.

  • @lawrence096 watch the video, he clearly says it's tube.

  • @nbfan yeh we've astablished that now, its a little hard to hear, i was simply asking a question.

  • @lawrence096 haha true that. i've always wanted to go to one of these big events but i'm afraid it'll just be this annoying loud gablagook.

  • how does this thing do on clean ? does it only have drive ?

  • does the amp just have its own natural distortion from the tube? or is he using effects?

  • @Ewixing all natural

  • Comment removed

  • How much for Gabriella? LOL!

  • I heard these are at the end of their production, I tried buy one from a couple of big german music stores, but they said they wont be restocking. But I managed to get one from the UK.

  • THTS AN AWSIM AMP FOR 5 WATTS

  • Too loud as video! Too much background! What do we learn from this?

  • @protofuzz

We learn this bloke is a bit of a beardy, specky, nob and Orange amps have gain.

  • some one please help me i want to get this ad5 but i want to make surre its loud enough for band jams and stuff not live shows just jams and rehersals?

  • Depends how loud yoru band are...

I mean.... i have to use a 120W stack in my rehersals because my drummer is SOOOO LOUD....

  • ermm not too loud cos then the neighbours get angry lol so we cover the drum kit up with some blankets and stuff to make it quite. so do u think it would be good enough for private mini jams?

  • WTF!!!!!

  • @joeab09 Ah, but what amp do you own....

  • @RiderDugzy getting one delivered tomorrow mate. Will let you know after the weekend!

  • It sounds LOVELY with a Gibson Les Paul and also with Fender Stratocaster. Now that I kicked out my neighbour with this amp maybe I might make some videos :D

  • does this amp sound good with a gibson lp

  • I prefer your hair cut like this, Rob.

    o O

  • Can this do sensible volume levels for bedroom playing? I want to get this or the Marshall Class 5, but I can't decide which?

  • haha you could hear that Matze is a German dude

  • orange amps + prs usa guitars= i rip in the universe because it sounds so good

  • nice

  • what kind of boost pedal was that??

  • MXR boost... he says it pretty clearly at 3.15

  • Would this do for small gigs and band practice? and would it be able to stay clean?

  • no, 5 watts tube is too small for gigs or even to be heard as a whisper over acoustic drums my 15 watt is too quiet for bands you want at least, at LEAST a 30 watt

  • not true, it has a high output 10" speaker that makes it more efficient than most, i've blown a Rocker30 out of the water at the music store with that bad boy.

  • These white heads look like a battery charger,,,Ugly looking...

  • I lol'd at the part with Matthias Arp since he's a paid Peavey endorser :P

  • Yeah he's my mate!! And Peavey are cool so no problems ;-)

  • oh i thought that the AD5 would be eighty-five watts, my bad haha

  • $500 for a 5 watt amp?

  • How about 1800 for a 3 watt?

  • just because its low watts doesnt mean its not worth it

  • 5 watts is loud enough for most implications, assuming you can mic it up. the only time it doesn't suffice is if it's competing w/ 50 watt amps.

  • i once had a 180 watt orange amp. the big ones you see stacked in the background. i like roland amps better though.

  • The amp sounds great, but I was paying way more attention to Gabriella.

  • Do you think I will be able to do Zakk Wylde and Slash tone with this amp and a few pedals?

  • no-way

  • I've got a brand new AD-5 for sale - will ship within Europe (I'm from Germany) - contact me for details!

  • Hey Rob, thanks for the vids. How about a proper demo about this one already? ;)

I'm torn btw the AD5 and the TT head (already got a small cab at home) because the price diff is so minimal, only around 20€/£. I don't really have an opportunity to try before buying. I'm looking for a Billy F Gibbons kinda thick vintageish distortion sound. Which one would you go for? Thanks again!

  • aren't these the amp where like...400 of them got stolen earlier this year?

  • i think it was the tiny terror combos that were stolen

  • Just picked this amp up for AU$599 including postage. That is the equivalent to US$377. Win!

  • I'm putting some thought into buying one of these. How do u like it? What kinda guitar are you playing through it?

  • might buy this amp due to room constraints. but for 490 bucks you could get a real 50's tube amp thats fully restored etc.

video was cool but im not really sold yet.

  • True. And those amps won't sound like a can of bees like the AD5.

  • Hey chap!!!

Thanks for the video. It inspired me to buy an orange ad5 last Saturday. However, I would be glad if you could tell in details how you pushed the tubes with the MXR boost. Would you mind telling the settings for the pedal? Also, is there another way to use the overdrive for the ad5 without having to crank up till 10? I'm in Japan and the neighbours aren't so nice and accepting!!! :)

  • the monkey lord's pulled! haha

  • hey rob..how's it goin? just wanna know ur opinions...im using gibson les paul studio n mainly play at home..thinking of buying my 1st tube amp...which one do u think suits me better...TT combo or this baby?

  • Hi mate, to be honest I would take your guitar to a bunch of stores and try lots of amps out because what sounds great to me may sound awful to you! I prefer the TT combo but it's all subjective :-)

  • For home use I'd get this.

  • should of plugged it into a 4x12 ahhahah swweeet

  • Hey Rob,

I live in Australia and am currently awaiting the release of this amp here. This sounds like a phenomenal amp for the price, especially because you are playing through it.

I'm thinking of using the Fulltone OCD with this amp, to give it that extra boost and distortion in times where I can't crank the volume has high as I would like. Do you think that would be suitable?

Anyway, keep up the great work with Orange and hope to see heaps more videos from you in the near future.

  • Hi Aligind, Yeah I use an MXR boost in front of mine and it works great so I'm sure the OCD would be awsome :-)

    Enjoiy :-)

  • hi, do you think this amp would be suitable for extreme metal ? I guess I'd need a distortion pedal ? And by the way, I didn't see it anywhere, but does it have a speaker output ? (that's right, I'm a newbie)

  • Hi Judasprost, this amp is definately not a metal amp! You want the Rockerverb 50 for that.. it has awsome metal tones \m/ Yes this has a speaker output :-)

  • You're talking about the MXR Line Driver/Boost right? I was thinking of getting one but it has the name Line Driver so I don't know if it's different.

  • gives a slight hint of eruption tone with the mxr im gettin one of these ..kills the blackheart...thanks mate :))

  • is the ad5 a more vintage sounding amp than a tiny terror, how does the 10 inch speaker sound and about when does it start to break up?

  • Hi Jonny, yeah definately more of a vintage type of vibe with the AD5, the speaker sounds great at all volumes :-)

  • @JonnyRake: Hi dude!! I'd say the AD-5 starts breaking up at about 12 o' clock if you're using humbuckers. As for singles coils I'll plug in my fender and will let you know.

    Cheers!!

  • hey rob, i love your videos and i love orange amps to! i have one tiny terror it is amazing but i want another orange to play at home because i just play the tiny terror with my band.betwen the ad5 and the orange crush 30r, what do you think that is better to me! i´m a blues fanatic (jimi hendrix ,johnny winter and strv etc..) i also like the classic classic rock and prog(genesis, pink floyd, yes, king crimson etc...and off course that i´m a tiny terror fan!thank you a lot!

  • Hi mate, I think the AD5 would be perfect for you mate! Especially for those bluesy tones..although it is actually quite loud :-)

  • MAN! I want one of those, needs an attenuation control, just a tad, to make the tube burn hotter.

  • but i heard someone say people were complaining when you had it set at 3 and you said in this vid its insanely loud

  • The noise restrictions at the show are very harsh.. So someone may wellhave complained. And for 5 watts it is insanely loud, but it's a "5 watt practice amp" andit will never get over a drummer unless you had 4 of them daisy chained mmmm :-)

  • i hear these are loud enough to jam with a drummer cranked? is that true

  • No not true, the AD5 is a practice amp.. not suitable for a band. The Tiny Terror is what you need :-)

  • i didnt mean it!!! it was a joke!! I LOVE U REALLY!

  • Hey Rob! It's me! And also you!

I'm looking for a small little tube amp for playing at bedroom volumes without buying any of that solid-state BS! I've been looking at the Epiphone Valve Junior, and the Bleackheart Little Giant. And after seeing this video, I think I may have found what I'm looking for! Which one would you recommend for some Paul Gilbert style shred tones?

  • Hi mate, yes they are great but if you want Paul Gilbert style tones you would need to crank it loud! It is clean quiet and dirty's up as it gets louder :-) BEtter with a TT for PG type stuff.

  • whats the US price? in dollars

  • its me again! :D

just to inform every1 who is waitng for this lovely amp or the tiny terror combo:

i just wrote an email to the german orange guys (because im german ;) ) and they told me that the release will be delayed to the end of august due to a production delay =(

  • I know which pedal is XDXDXD thank

  • Cool no problem mate, I would use either a tube SCREAMER or a MXR MC401 :-)

  • I'm sorry but I understand English a little bit .I think buying an orange AD5. Could you tell me which distortion pedal you use? thank very much

  • I used an MXR MC401 boost, not a distortion :-)

  • hey man its me again! :D

i dont want to annoy u but i have 1 more queastion:

will i get a nice tone (like u have in ur tiny terror metal video) with the TT even when i play it rather quite?

well i will test both of em anyway just thought u'd know best =)

  • Hi mate, you wouldn't get the same tone but you could get a similar tone with it set to 7 watts.. That tone ios a combination of the Guitar I used, an MXR MC401, the TT head and a good solid 4x12 cab.

  • hey dude =)

i love ur playing and i love the ad5 and i think about buying 1 for practicing in my room.

i especially love the tone u get when u put the mxr in front of it.

do u think i can get a similar tone with my ibanez tube screamer in front of it? and with a neighbour-friendly volume? :D

i'd be very happy about an answer =)

  • Hi mate, I think if you want to be really quite then you would need an amp with a master vloume (Gain knob) like a Tiny Terror, because the AD5 is actually quite loud. Yeah the Ibanez TS would work similarly but it would change the tone of your amp, the MXR does not :-) Monkey Lord 猿王

  • Hey Monkey Lord! I met u on Sunday 15th at LIMS with my m8, u had a picture taken which was kl =). I meant to ask you what scales i should learn to enable me to be a better player? Thanks!

    -peace-

Oh and i always find it funny on practise amps when the carry handle pops down =D.

  • Hi mate!Yeah it was nice to meet you guys :-) Learn your pentatonic scales first, then move on to your modal scales. Speak soon buddy

    rob

  • hi rob

just a quick question: what amp is the black one sitting next to the telecater at 1:32?

    will it be available?

ps: since you're inside the "Orange kingdom" tell the guys to build low wattage amps (like the TT) with SPRING REVERB please!!! :-)

    thak you!!

  • Hi mate, that is the Rocker30, but all Orange amps are available in black :-)

  • I thought that the mxr mc401 was a clean booster?

Can you get distorted tones with this booster at low volumes?

  • It is, but if you put it through the front of an amp in pushes the preamp tubes.

  • this amp is already available in the uk, saw it for sale for about 285 pounds (same as the 325 euros in germany.)

look around, you'll find it, but better be quick tho, these little things are extremely fun to play, my drummer stil won't accept defeat ;)

  • what's the name of the mxr boost you use in this video?

  • MXR MC401 :-)

  • Hello again monkey lord,

    Very quick and important question,

    Whats louder,

5 watt tubed or 30 watt solid state??

  • 30 Watts solid state :-) depends on what class etc.. I reckon on about 20Watts Class A being 30 Watts Solid state :-)

  • Hey.

    Amp sounds cool.

How do you think the amp would record?

I am looking to get a small valve to record at home.

  • Mate it would be perfect for home recording!

  • o and will sound good with metal distortion

  • Not really mate, If you want metal try the TT for Old school metal, or the Rockerverb/Thunderverb series :-)

  • need to get my mucky paws on this!

whens it avaliable in the uk and how much

  • Thanks for watching the video. You'd need to contact Orange via their website to find out when and how much. Please let them know you saw the Orange amp via Rob Chappers on YouTube :-)

    Cheers :-)

    The Monkey Lord

  • Very nice video, i love the crunch with the booster! Does the AD5 have external speaker out?

  • Hi James, not sure about the speaker out because I have only played prototypes :-)

    Great tone though :-)

  • Do you know when this thing will be available in the USA?

  • Hello I think that info should be on the new Orange Amps website! I believe in June some time :-)

  • Price!? And is it giggable/band practiceable? Much love man!

  • Hi mate, definately not a gig amp! It's a great practice amp but not loud enough for anything else :-)

  • Awesome lol! Those 5watters always have great vintage tone when you crank them. I bet it would sound even better through a bigger speaker tho.

  • Yeah Matthias Arp, my Guitar-teacher! He's so good and Orange-Amp's fuckin' rock!

  • Cool man, say hi to Matthias from me I teach his tunes to all my students especially Plasma which is great! Tell him I may be in Germany again real soon.

    Rob

  • Sounds sweet Rob.

Are you actually endorsed by Orange? :p You should be haha.

Can't wait to try one of these babies out.

  • Ye sir I am! Thanks you very much :-)

  • at 0:51, it lives! (well the handle does)

  • Oh yeah ha ha ha!! :-)

  • Wow, that's sooooo sweet!

It would be the perfect companion to my Tiny Terror. Looks like it would make an immaculate practice/bedroom amp.

Question, since there's only two knobs, tone and volume, how are you playing with overdrive when there's no pedal? Maybe there is I just can't see it. (I'm typing this and listening to the video right now so...)

Anyways, thank you! You're knowledge is superb. Now if only I was British... =(

  • Hi mate, the amp gets dirtier the louder/harder you drive it! So there isn't really a clean setting at high volumes.. clean until about quater volume then crunchy up to about third, then creamy filth all the way up :-)

  • Ooooh oh ooooooh it's one of thooooose! I see

    THANKS! =)

  • im totally into creamy filth

  • damn, I want that, whats your opinion on this versus the tiny terror combo? is the tiny terror worth the price difference?

  • Definately mate, the AD5 is great but the TT Combo is head and shoulders above.. Get the AD5 if you want a bedroom practise amp. Get the TT if you want a workhorse gig/rehearsal machine :-)

  • lol answered my question before i even asked it, how dare you

  • Sixth sense is trained into Orange clinicians at a young age :-)

  • great playing. that amp sounds amazing can't wait for it to come out

  • Thanks mate :-)

  • make them less expensive:(

  • The AD5 should be quite cheap mate :-)

  • whats the price tag? :o:o

  • Not sure yet Deest.. the new Orange website should be up next week and will show prices :-)

  • don't forget to give me a link to the website:o

  • good vid dude

  • Thanks mate :-)

  • great video, thanks for posting.

  • Thanks mate, it is a pleasure :-)

  • heyy i just wondered how much the ad 5 and or 50 will cost when out?

  • Should be up on the new Website next week mate! :-)

  • ChappersTV is for the children!

Thanks for the video(s) Rob. It's not fair that you get to try all this nifty stuff out, but we love you for it anyway.

  • Ha ha! Cheers mate, yeah I am a lucky man, I didn't know it was al being released until I got there :-)

  • Hey Rob nice video. I love Orange's new miniature army!

    Josh

  • My 2 cents, at 5 watts, why would anyone expect any real clean tone out of the AD5, the little thing rocks, and for the type of music rob is playing it is incredible

  • Thanks mate, I guess you just can't please everyone :-)

  • ever tried a 5w tube amp? clean...not really possible with these things at least at the volumes required to actually hear it at the musikmesse

plus, they were made to get poweramp distortion at low (relatively) levels...

  • It was impossible to get a clean sound from the AD5 at a level which could be recorded at the messe.

  • Yeah Rob. Why don't you give us the specs of the amp because it would obviously be far more interesting than hearing you play.

I'm joking of course - great playing and tone as always.

  • Cheers mate, yeah these are just launch teasers.. I will obviously do serious reviews when they are available :-)

  • That was great, and thank you for posting all these videos!

  • @ jonesr227: Hi thank you very much..Greets Gabriella

  • No problemo! :-)

  • Rob, Please extend my best wishes to Gabriella, the next time you see her. :)

  • Ha ha will do mate :-)

  • I keep hearing that this amp won't be for sale until a year from now...Doesn't Orange want my money? Eh, I just ordered a Dr Z MAZ Jr NR this week anyhow. Maybe it's better I control myself for now...

  • first!

great review. maybe it'll be in my price range because I totally want it.
