It's basically referring to them as an "older brother" of sorts, but can be used for any older male that you're close to. For idols, fans usually say "ichiban", meaning #1 in something..

About KAT-TUN trying Korean style, check out "Run For You" PV. Many people say it seems very K-pop, rather than J-pop.

However, I think J-pop is better than K-pop by a large margin.
