  • weird thing is all the robot appear in the op only few of them shown in the ova

  • これ、アメリカにも輸出されて好評だったらしいけど0:31のシーンとかは9.11以降カットされたんじゃないかなぁ。向こうの人からしたら結構トラウマになるシーンだと思うし。

  • Is Big O just a homage to this? XD

  • @EricSRFine No, but some of the people who worked on this worked on Big O at the same time.

  • it's like i'm watching megaman: the animation.

  • Who'd win in a fight?

    Giant Robo or Tetsujin 21?

  • @JuanMamaril Giant Robo is obviously bigger so the win would go to it. Giant Robo is a re-imagining of Tetsujin by the same creator and was originally a live-action series back in the 1960s.

  • @JuanMamaril It's Tetsujin 28, not 21.

  • This series is great. I wished they continued with the final battle between BF Group and IPO, that would have been cool.

  • I love Yasuhiro Imagawa remakes, how he combines everything the manga ka did and then gave them all super powers, it was also great in Shin Mazinger Z. I wish he would do a Leiji Matsumoto thing that would lend itself well to combining all the stories into one, and giving everyone super powers and seeing what happens

  • i wish they would have made a sequel ;_;

  • このアニメくらいの動きが今のアニメにも欲しいなぁ。

    見てて爽快。

  • Do the giant robots that appear in the opening, Grinning Bomber, Mustache-Storm appear in the show anywhere?

    Gotta get this on DVD.

  • Who are those guys at 0:34

  • Comment removed

  • What I find truly brilliant about this anime is how it misleads you into thinking it would just be a typical good vs. evil, robot of the week anime, when the series itself is actually quite epic in scope with a surprisingly deep and dark storyline.

  • I love the openings. They show robots that never appeared in the actual series.

  • @CrazyCannibalClown It was supposed to be a series of 5 OVAs, so I'm sure they would have shown up.

  • HAIL BIG FIRE! ALLEGIANCE OR DEATH!

  • My favorite anime of all time.

  • love love LOVE this anime. i bought it WAY back when it was on VHS.

  • Gigator? That's the Gigator roar 1:23.

Is this like a sequal to Tetsujin 28?

  • @GeniusIncarnate0 Not necissary. Tetsujin No.28 and Giant Robo were just created by the same guy, Mitsuteru Yokoyama, who also created Akakage, Sally the Witch and essentially Godmars.

  • @TakumProti The reason all of these other Yokoyama characters appear in Giant Robo was because the Giant Robo manga was out of print when this show was produced, so they filled the gao with these other characters.

  • Giant Robo.... pronto a combattere!!!!!!

  • When I first saw this anime, first time they said the boy's name - Daisaku Kusama, I burst out laughing as KusAma is a (phonetically) curse word in arabic (and very popular in Israel too) meaning - Your mother's vegina... the name fits him well :)

  • Giant Robo's cry is so awesome

  • Cool, the bad guys are racists, but with cool robots! The main character, that boy, kinda creeps me out. I think it's because of a Sailor Moon episode I once saw where a brown-haired bishonen in a white shirt and tie was possessed by a monster. All that aside, Giant Robo looks good, I mean, Go Nagai-level good (I know it's not by him).

  • Since when is Big Fire racist? They just wanted to control the Earth any way they could. It's not their fault if someone in that organization had their own demented ideas that even the higher ups didn't know about. Like how Giant Robo was powered for instance.

  • You don't get the joke, do you?

  • they're condom-wearing nazis

  • isnt kinda irresponsible to put a child to "pilot" that freaking thing XD

it looks cool i hope i can get to watch it all

  • ALL HAIL BIG FIRE

  • This series had a great story, slow paced that's why some people don't apreciate it, and I liked a lot the soundtrack music.

  • HAIL BIG FIRE

  • @Scentless All DAY!

  • Actually it's the exact opposite. Giant Robo has some of the most in depth plot and characters you will ever see in anime. It's now considered a classic and one of the greatest anime ever made.

  • Cool, it's kinda hard to tell from this clip because most cheesy animes I've watched have this kinda style.

  • It has a lot of characters of cliches, but it takes those cliches together and makes something amazing. It is one of the best anime made to date. True the art style is a bit old, but that should never be a reason to ANY anime fan to not watch something. Yeah the robots do look somewhat cheesy, but they're based of older designs, well they are those older designs. If anything I felt the robots could have used more screen time. It had a lot of kung-fu fighting, especially towards the end.

  • You might think these kind of animes were just like the Saturday morning cartoons, villains of the week thing and all but no, Giant Robo is something like say... Put a cheesy tokusatsu robot and a Spawn-like design topped off with a story kids won't understand, the result is a gloomy plot with a hardcore 60s robot.

  • @nightslash3535 The interesting thing to me is that the big bad isn't Big Fire, the BF Group's leader -- it's a minion who the Magnificent Ten can't agree on whether to support or not. The IPO-vs.-BF conflict is just the backdrop; the OVA's story is about one particular event in that war: The "Day" the Earth Stood Still. It's about Genya's quest for revenge and the fight against HIM. Like a 5-hour movie. It makes a lot more sense if you know that GR:TDtESS was supposed to be just 1 arc out of 7.

  • @KaioshinSama84 I came for the robots, stayed for the characters.

  • @KaioshinSama84

So good it was totally above the heads of most. Lord watching people drool over Miyazaki and sleep on this masterpiece is sickening.

This joint is the pinnacle of aesthetic refinement in anime (on of them at least).

    Strictly for connoisseurs.

  • I have yet to see the series, but am hoping to pick it up soon, for 7 episodes it must cover a lot!

  • @PwninKonan I highly recommend it. I just finished watching it and it was awesome.

  • I hear there are alot of things they didn't cover in the series though with a lot of questions left unaswered which is sortof the factor leaning me away bit, hope they make a sequel.

  • what is kriis1986 talking about!? this is totally classic! just because its old and just because humans have a ( short ) attention span doesnt mean its cheesy so

next time watch the anime then you can say if it sucks or not

just think of it this is one of the first robot animes so if this never inspired anyone

much or if it was cheesy many other animes wouldnt exist ( if you dont know what i mean then dont )

  • This anime has classic style because it was their intention. Original manga came out back in 60's and animators decided to have that retro flavor.

Character Designer of this anime, Akihiro Yamashita, eventually became animation supervisor of "Howl's moving castle" directed by Hayao Miyazaki. Now he's working on Miyazaki's latest feature film.

  • It LOOKS shallow, yes, but that's all Imagawa's directing style; trick you with a supposedly 2-dimensional plot, and then gobsmack you with revelations you'd never see coming. The villians may SEEM evil, but they have their own intentions, and the 'good guys' are not as pure as you would think.

He also directed Mobile Fighter G Gundam, if that helps you put things in perspective. It's kind of like that, but way different.

Did I mention it's animated by future Studio Ghibli animators?

  • hehehe, this looks fun

  • BIGU FAIYA NO TAME NI

  • jyainto robo... *tries to make out katakana*
