It brought a tear to my eye when henry allingham insisted on laying his won reith... these 3 people are the bravest people who were with us at the time.
Bless you Mr. Allingham and Mr. Patch, God had a reason to let you live so long, perhaps that was to remind us if the loss that war brings, but also to show us the cost of freedom.
you are a caste-iron idiot. the man had no lawful reason not to join military. besides he went to war as he seen it as his DUTY to serve regardless of his personal views about war, and you should be glad he did go for if he and his generation did not you might be speaking german today. that said, now get down on your knees and ask god to forgive your ignorance.
This was a man who justified his long years on earth by his determination to honor standards so easily forgotten in our day, and those who died that we might live. He set an indelible example. I wept over his death, as should many others. How many men or women of his caliber are alive today? Not enough. Rest in peace, good soldier, great man, comrade in arms who never forgot.
This was a man from an era of no welfare, no hand outs. It was shut your mouth, dust yourself off and don a stiff upper lip.
He was a true embodiment of what once made Britain great.
I have to wonder what he thought about the world he was leaving. Was it worth all he sacrificed and the millions of his brothers in arms as well. Somehow I think not.
I met Henry back in 2004, but the resonance and importance of his message of never forgetting WWI and the horrible cost that the world paid in innocent, promising young lives didn't hit me until I visited the war cemeteries in and around the Somme in 2006. I literally just broke down in front of my Great Uncle's grave.
If anyone has earned an eternity of peace, it is the wonderful Henry Allingham. Thank you.
Having met Henry in 2004 in northern france he is a true hero and may we never forget him and all the other brave men who gave their lives for our future
I really hope that nobody hates me for saying this but unfortuantly I don't think he will ever stand again. Henry Allingham is a living hero. May he live for as long as he can manage.

Men or women of his caliber alive today? Very few, I doubt that any will emerge from the future generations in this fluffy world of ours.
