  • This is a beautiful song composed by Ralph Carmichael, he's my favorite composite ...

  • not only love is surrender, but a young ms.carpenter surrendered her youth,so people could enjoy her wonderful gift, the time karen gave up was a huge sacrifice, thanks

  • I never got to see her live or anything.. my mother was a great fan and forced me to watch the karen carpenter movie when i was 5 lol fell in love with it straight away and watched every day after school till i was 12 when VHS Tapes became a thing of the past.. personally, i admired richard, song writer singer and all.. and was trully humble enough to let the record label sign Karen instead of him.. but i still love them both.. this song is my favourite.. R.I.P Karen Carpenter..

  • Yes, it is "You must surrender if you CARE". The guy's "Hooh!!"(1:21) is a great touch to the song too. Love it!!

  • The harmonies in this are spine chillimngly brilliant. Love this so much. Wish the track was longer though!!

  • I miss you Karen

  • Karen had a voice like no one else , and as the video and song shows she was an accomplished drummer. We will not see her like again.

  • That "Huhh!" at 1:21 is a nice touch to a great song.

  • its to bad there are sooooo many wrong words in the printed lyrics, but this is a great show and its was a lead in to an even better song!!!!

    maybe its you!!

and no Richard did NOT change the lyrics to be more Secular, what a stupid thing to say!

  • There will never (and I mean NEVER) be another voice like Karen's.

  • "Our true identity is to love without fear and insecurity. Our higher potential finds us when we set our course in that direction. The power of love and compassion transforms insecurity." Doc Childre

I miss you, Karen Carpenter ... my beautiful Diva, rip.

  • Any footage with Karen singing and playing drums is rare, precious, and worth keeping.

  • They sing, "If you care" however the original words (changed by Richard to make it more "secular") are "to His Will" - meaning God's will. "You must surrender to God's will."

  • When Karen Carpenter died, she took to her grave our hearts. He dead was a sin of life.

  • AWESOME

  • lalalalala (8)

I pass night and day singing like this!!!

    =)

  • What incredibly gifted Individuals! What a tragedy that such an Angel died so young!

Her Voice is just so hauntingly beautiful.

  • What an awesome video!THANK YOU FOR POSTING!I just love this song,and I always loved Karen!LOVE IT,LOVE IT,LOVE IT!!!!!Thank you again!

  • But is it "Surrender, if you can"

or "Surrender if you care"? The latter makes more sense

  • Everyone believes Karen - thought she was fat, it was much deeper than that, I spoke with someone that toured with them - Karen cursed like a Sailor , but was good natured ..

  • This was the song, where Richard

and their manager tried to tell Karen

to get out behind the drums. She had

such a beautiful face and smile, that

went perfectly with this song. Karen

didn't feel this way;the drums were

    her security, because she thought

she was fat. You were not fat, Karen.

  • @wegersfour: she kept thinking she was fat right? that eventually led to her death. :(

  • @Alchrat i'm no expert, but i think there are deeper issues involved with anorexia than someone just thinking they're fat.

  • What a wonderful song!

  • good song

  • the karen carpenter movie had this song in it when they just started out. a very good t.v. movie ... it' came out in about 1990. for those that don't know karen was fine until a review talked about her big butt, which wasn't big at all.. that's when she began her eating problem.

  • Actually, that information in the film was incorrect. There was never an article calling Karen plump, but there was one that called Richard plump.

  • Life is not that simplistic.

  • the carpenters are phenomenal

  • Written and originally recorded by gospel composer Ralph Carmichael, the song was slightly re-written lyrically to fit into a secular construct for the Carpenters' LP. I am surprised Richard even knew of this song from the gospel musical "Tell It Like It Is", as it was unknown to the pop world. Karen and Richard made it one of my all time favorites.

  • I remember singing it in chorus in 5th grade... Thank you Mrs. Amstutz!

  • Love this song. It is one of my earliest memories of any song. My mom played this album nonstop. At 39, this song evokes every good memory I have had from childhood. Flawless arrangement and needless to say, flawless Karen. I still listen to this whole album today.

  • My favorite Carpenter song. It feels to me that this song was made and came from heaven. 1970. Memories memories....

  • It was a real good arrangement of sounds,..

plus the genuine voice of Karen, equals a perfect combination!!!

  • anyone got their version of Rain? I want to hear It!

  • What a great pop arrangement!!! They're one of those rare bands who didn't record a bad tune...I'm unashamedly biased of course.

  • I think the lyrics are "...you must surrender if you care" and not "...if you can."

  • Clearly!

  • I think the lyrics are "...you must surrender if you care." not "..if you can."

  • You now! I looked up the lyrics of Love is surrender and you are right. Is: you must surrender if you care...................

  • @333666480: I thought it was you must surrender if you CAN

  • I absolutely love "Love is Surrender"

  • YAH!! Let's keep up the tribute vids to the carpenters. thanx alot everyone for contributing to more rare vids, PeAcE.()
