I have the new 800 series in my classroom and love it....had the 600 series before but it doesn't even compare with the 800. I teach 7-12 science and this is a great way to teach class labs and hands-on instructional techniques for different learning styles. The students are engaged all the time instead of listening to lectures.
Interactive white boards are a waste of money. I have been a Director of Technology for 15 years. I was the Chair of a national tech organizations Emerging Technologies Committee for several years. For some reason schools have decided this is the next great thing. It is not. Their cost does not warrant the expense.
We have implemented interactive handheld tablets, (a number of companies make them) for about 1/6th of the cost. They can do anything a smart board can do and are portable.
The SMART Board interactive whiteboard is designed specifically to support front-of-classroom activities - where teachers and students stand at the front of the classroom and interact directly with the subject matter at hand and with one another. That way, everyone participating in the learning experience can observe and be involved.
Interactive handheld tablets are clearly not designed for the same purpose.
@2000hadee They're like... $5,000. Our school has one in like, 4 classrooms, and we want to try and get one in every classroom. We could buy 2 last year with all the fundraisers we had.
@Averie1999 i may not own a school, but i need one before 16 years so that includes work. But my school actually has one in every classroom but its my district who got it! We also have SMART Response pe
