Pitchers, depending on the pitcher, throw several different pitches(4-seam, 2-seam fastball, curveball, slider, cutter, etc) and depending on the hitter,you throw the pitch accordingly. You also have to think about the weaknesses and strengths of the hitter. Is he a good fastball hitter? Does he like low, high, outside, or inside pitches? Can he hit the curve? You also have to take into account the pitch count.

I'll agree the first hand ball was a blown call without a doubt, this one looked more like he was covering his face and his arm just happened to catch the ball, its not like the entire are was stretched out. I think the penalty kick Chelsea should have had was when Drogba was almost laid out, but he should have taken advantage of several other chances he had.
