@TheUnagie232 not all the time. there are some that start spinning at ground level, reaching up and meeting the funnel midway to the clouds. it is VERY rare, but it has happened. i have seen it.
Pretty amazing though I've never heard tornado strength has increased? I thought that was a myth due to population increase in previously unpopulated regions. Still though, I'd love to throw a model ship in a pool and run that thing over it.
@nitesXmoon...why not, because it is not a smart idea...I go to ISU and am in the wind tunnels a lot. A year or two ago, a reporter from Japan decided she wanted to do just that, and they started up the tunnel around her, one move and she was down. And if I recall correctly, that was just experiencing a EF2 or 3 tornado.
use cement and concrete not wood and other cheap and light materials...all the wooden houses were knocked and there's one made of bricks who only has the windows broken and probably some roof dmg...
Exactly. A simple redign and change in materials would fix it. Really. It's been proven. Of course the home insurance companies won't be to happy about that. :/
I can imagine a commercial for this "so buy you're tornado in a can today, available at your local bed bath and beyond" "also if you purchase today you can get a free life size cardboard human to destroy with it"
If you touch dry ice, it will be cold. Obviously. But if you touch it for, say, 2 seconds, nothing will happen. But if you touch it for 10 seconds, it will 'bite' you, meaning it will instantly freeze to your hand. This hurts!! This can cause frostbite. If your handling dry ice, use gloves. Also, put the ice in warm water. It will turn directly to a gas.
it can cause frostbite in under 10 seconds, it's been recorded. And you're very good to point out to handle dry ice with gloves, and another thing is to not have too much dry ice "fog" in a confined space. It can cause death unless there's good ventilation - open windows, doors, etc. Best place to do it is outside.
because if u keep the windows close, the pressure inside the house get higher that outside, because the static air generes more presion that the flowing air, making the roof ready for takeoff XD
what about earthen homes or even better, earthen dome homes, instead of trying to work against the wind work around,it seems dumb to just do what we always do,but tougher, tornadoes seem to have little effect on the ground itself and when i think shelter i mean more the kind that are just doors in the ground leading to a room.
in my head your house could just be like that get some sky light with iron shutters and in a deeply planted earthen home all i could imagine happening is windows sucked out
stupid people who live hear. i mean, its nature . if a tornado keeps wrecking your house you re build every year why dont you just move out. to another state?
Yeah but its america if your gonna live their you have to face the fact that their is gonna be tornados if everybody just moved then america would be deserted nobidy would be their so moving is a (N)
those tornadoes hit not even 1.5 miles away from me, jump and hit again 2 miles in the other direction. I could see the funnel and circulation in the sky real ominous and creepy feeling looking straight up at it.
@frena323 they were actually testing that when I left for spring break. They wanted to determine whether it is better to open windows or not. They had a single small house with 120 pressure taps on the inside. They started with the house completely closed up and one by one they removed the windows. I haven't heard the results yet, but they were studying this.
Um, why did they paint the pieces on the models? It's not like color has anything to do with it, it was surely time consuming for something that will eventually be destroyed, and to those who might respond saying "well it's so they can tell what part came from what", please note that marking them with a simple alpha-numeric code would have been much simpler, faster and cheaper.
Granted, it looks better with the paint, but this is supposed to be science where that doesn't matter for shit....
I don't mean to sound like an insensitive jerk, but once your house is demolished by a tornado for the umpteenth time, isn't it a good idea to, I dunno, not live in one of Tornado Alley's hot spots anymore?
