  • Instead of going from windows to something more expensive such as osx, you should go to something free, open, customizable, compatible, and awesomer, like Linux. If your moving out of Windows, at least go to zorin-os.com

  • What's with that drag and drop sound? How did you get it?

  • i will share and like

  • the way i see it is that windows and mac osx can achieve the same things as eachother, you can ultimately do the same things on both os's. i think it comes down to what price you want to spend and which ecosystem you want to belong to. i personally dont care how much i pay but i like using xbox and windows phone which is why i love using windows. i love the integration between all the products with office and zune. the only people who hate os's are fanboys

can it watch 1080p movies and will it lag if i open like 4 tabs and some other thing?

sorry im new to mac and ive always heard that macs were slow

  • This is from 2009 and yet it taught me a thing or two! I'm new to using mac and I really like it this far. It's different and it will take some time to get used to it, but this actually helped a lot :D

  • @mousepad99 Least popular OS would be Solaris, Sun, BSD, or Linux. On the contrary, Mac OS X is fairly popular.

  • what is miro?

  • aah i love mac, in my school everyone has 1 macbook each, and when we have graduated from the school we cant buy it from the school.... ): so hell yeah im gonna buy a new one just for myself, mac is so damn good so better than pc, easier to learn and use, more powerfull, never laggy, best computer ever, love them :)

  • I don't have a mac. Someone give me one, lol.

  • Good video, thanks. I've been using Mac OS X for about three months now, still getting used to the quirks but loving the degree of customisation and the support for 'power user' types.

With regards to Cut & Paste, there is an interesting little programme called MoveAddict which will replicate this I believe (still to check it out myself). Apparently, the official thinking from Apple is that not having c&p stops people accidentally 'losing' data.

  • I've always used Windows, but I do like that easy single-file installation! Hopefully its in Windows 8 :)

  • Thank you very much

  • thanks for the review, Im thinking of buying a mac, Im really fed up with the ntfs filesystem and the infinite defrags, can you run windows application on a mac?

  • @satjathamma You can use a separate app called "Crossover". Most people wouldn't recommend it. I personally have never used it. I have used programs like VMWare Fusion, where you can install Windows on your Mac and run Windows while your on OS X, so technically you can run Windows programs along side your Mac apps OR you can go into full screen. If you don't mind booting into Windows and not running OS X from time-to-time, then the best option would be to install via Bootcamp. Good luck!

  • From what I read mac is another version of linux and I'm wondering when installing a program don't you have to download dependencies?

  • @dying2l Its not really "just another version of linux". Its based on "Unix"... which is sorta the same, but not quite. OSx apps have their own dependencies and installers ...

  • @wdrpsp19 I have to learn mac in graphics class and I'm tempted to install mac osx leopard on my laptop for class instead of using their computers. Do you have any advice?

    Thank you

  • @dying2l by that do you mean "install it on a non-Macbook"? Coz that would be against Apple's rules. You would need to create a "Hackintosh" for it and trust me, I tried soo much, its not worth all the trouble. Best is to get a Macbook and then dual boot Windows and Mac. (You can even throw in Linux). Mac is really good for multimedia... Go for a macbook if you have the money, otherwise just use their computers.

  • @wdrpsp19 multimedia is just video editing and pictures right? If its just a performance advantage for pictures I think I'd rather install mac OS on pc since mac machines are not really faster any more right? Plus I got lucky with a 2,000$ tablet pen laptop for 300$, I'd really like to use it in class and I need to save my money for a couple of projects I'm building.

  • @wdrpsp19 actually its really easy to install mac os on a pc. You might want to look around for better tutorials.

  • how do u make ure desktop icons like that

  • great vid thanks

  • @xxmaddiexxnickixx i pity you

  • GET HD

  • /watch?v=Uz7Iv7URX5s if u have a problem, comment there!

  • what program did u use to record this video???

  • A lot of this I can do in Linux, but i like the out of the boxiness and some of it is implemented better.

  • Great video! Informative and plesantly presented!

  • @ReligionIsMisery idiots will buy a crappy mac and install windows on it haha....my PC rocks......oh yeah and ive got linux on it too....!!

  • @mousepad99 Let me tell you that...Windows, is vulnerable just for beeing windows...

The Windows has a different Kernel from the Unix and Linux (they alsow have a different Kernel beetwen them ) and that is what makes the windows vulnerable...and let's not forget the bigest error of all time...the humman one ;)

  • @ReligionIsMisery

BIOS? How very 1980's! Are you PC users still using this ancient technology? Macs have something way more sophisticated called OpenFirmware - I suggest you look it up as what you've described above will only work on a PC, not a Mac. Mac users who want to run Windows 7 just have to install it via the built-in Boot Camp software.

  • @HappySpaceInvdr

Talk about ancient technology! Saying that PC users have ancient technology in contrast to Mac users is like saying that the US military has stick weapons, compared to the average citizen who has a rocket launcher. Clearly, it is the other way around. Just to clarify, Mac OS X is built on top of the UNIX operating system, which was invented in 1969! Even Windows doesn't have this technology!

Basically, every time you buy a Mac, you're also buying 42-year-old technology.

  • @DaringFusion hm.. older technology that causes fewer crashes..

  • @DaringFusion every time you buy/use a car (engine) you're using 100+-year-old technology also; does that make the vehicle any less competent ? You prefer windows to macs and that fine; but its not the only option and many more people are finding that in some instances, for them, using a mac makes sense. Your lambasting however, doesn't.

  • OMFG, Hadleigh... i live in Benfleet ^__^

  • @mousepad99 thanks for the info ^^

  • @mousepad99 What you can use Windows in Mac?? I thought Apple was strict with their products? Is there a way you can install a windows OS to a Mac product?

  • Thank you, I hate Mac a whole lot less now. The only thing preventing me from buing one is price.

  • @Ghosthunt64

Would it help you to know that Macs hold their resale value much better than PCs? For example, I paid £1400 for a top spec Macbook Pro about 3 years ago and sold it on eBay earlier this year for £700. My brother paid around £1,000 for his iMac 2 years ago and sold it last month (again on eBay) for £550.

I'm pretty sure PC-based hardware does not retain its value in the same way.

  • @HappySpaceInvdr Maybe, but what you have to realize is that you can buy a Windows computer cheaper than a Mac, despite the OS being more expensive. Also, I bet it depends on the make & model- a Dell Inspiron is just going to sell better than an Acer or Toshiba. It also depends on who's buying, as fanboys and collectors are going to pay higher prices than neutrals, it all just depends.

  • blah blah balh

tonn of words and time for not much at all

learn to speak shorter and to the point

  • @mobilephone2003 Thanks a lot buddy, I just bought a new Macbook Pro and trust me you've been a great help, I was really struggling :)

  • @mobilephone2003 ha ha awesome

  • @mobilephone2003 i think it was a quit good video on how to use a mac basics.

  • When you switch from windows to a Mac, you never go back!

  • turp turp no DX11

  • hoi mate

    aye aye sire

  • I'm using Windows 7 on a Macbook air and I hate mac fan boys saying that OS X is so much better. It's not so much better, they are both good and similar. 7 is solid, so is OS X. I prefer the clean look of the fonts of windows and and the taskbar is cleaner than the messy dock. However, I use both. I hate false claims from mac fanboys about windows stability, viruses etc, please educate yourself, instead of relying on a least popular OS to get a sense of security.I havent had a virus in 5yrs.

  • @MattyUrbanowiczVEVO

Well said ;) Now can someone tell me if latest OSX still operate in DX.9 or OpenGel or have they got DX.11 now... Also still FAT32 or already NTSF formats?

  • @ProjectDefiance

DirectX is proprietary software that Microsoft doesn't share with anyone. They would lose a lot of market share if they did.

NTFS is also proprietary but there are reverse engineered drivers that allow Linux, Mac and most other unix derivatives to read and write NTFS.

Apple uses it's own file system called HFS+ and OpenGL for graphics.

  • @Molo9000

Currently my iMAC can't write on NTFS but thats simply because its fairly old. Anyway i understand that Microsoft would loose some of its marker share if they allowed DirectX to be available for other OS and pretty much same goes for OSX to be available for Windows users as Apple would loose market share....

  • Absolutely fantastic video, well done for doing that. I'm a Windows 7 user, after seeing Mac OSX, I'm not convinced that I'd want to switch, but I can see where Microsoft gets some of its ideas from. My main problem with Apple is not the OS though, it's the company, they like to dominate everything even more than Microsoft does, they don't like competition and they like to own everything, no matter whether that's music, movies, apps, etc and I think that's great for Apple, not so good for us.

  • Great advise for noobs, thanks for that mate!

  • Please don't long, ducan

  • Please don't long

  • @sliver37 the green circle on the toolbar adjusts the windows size to the minimum size that still shows the entire content. Eg, safari will re-adjust it's size to have no (or as few) scrollbars as possible, but will not unnecessarily increase the window so there is massive amounts of "White space" within the window. It's far more intuitive that maximise, in my opinion.

  • Why doesn't OSX just have a maximize window button?! .. Windows 7 and the drag to the edge system is awesome, easy full screen or side by side active windows.

Why would apple think dragging the window every single time you want it full screen is anywhere near as intuitive?

  • it's 19 hours

  • What application are you running to record yourself and the Mac? And can you record games using it? =D

  • @TobiCollab what games if its wow you can record games

I found your video very helpful certainly one of the best!

How can I locate you? It would be of great help to get a transcript of this video.

  • I am sorry, but paying for this stolen kernel is the last thing I'd want to do.

  • @JATR1X Nah,

  • @Habbloxian i haven't tried mac os and linux and i didn't know about mac. but when i saw this vid i realized i'm happy to use windows xD

  • I'm new to Mac OS X Leopard, only got it running a day ago on my hackintosh, so this comes in very handy! Thanks alot :)

  • How did you install Windows on your mac? Can you install Microsoft office as well inside windows which you have installed on the mac so you can get like word. Powerpoint, Excel, and One Note!!! Also since you have vista do you know if Windows 7 will be available on the Mac?

  • Excellent tutorial for someone like me whose been using windows since the days of windows 95 lol!! The switch to a mac is very scary for me just coz I'm sooooo used to the windows operating system. And windows 7 is so stable one doesn't feel the need to switch! Who knows may be in the future....

  • @chao1212 Yes. Great OS my ass. It's not even a OS it's a KERNEL.

"Much better than Windows or Mac OSX." Only in Linux fanboy fairy tales but when we come to arguments...

"Speed and power's superior in every way, not to mention the ability to customize it. " You can talk that to someone else but not me, im not so naive. What power ? Same MacOS have - 30 or 40% ? Speed in Linux come from inferiority not superiority.

MacOS is better without customization than Linux with all Compiz crap.

  • @chao1212 Joke ? How MacOS can be a joke if you must install 100 applications on Linux to become cheap MacOS copy ? Little to no applications ? What Linux have ? Bunch of crappy applications with ZERO quality and few they are worth something exist on MacOS. (Gimp, Transmission, Open Office...)

  • @chao1212 LOL you are really funny. Hillarious in fact.

  • Why use Firefox if you can use Safari ? Stupid. Safari is so much better and faster.

  • ubuntu is for linux noobs

  • i seriously didn't noticed it had 35 minutes. so awesome. i love your accent, really. :)

  • Really good job :)

  • Ubuntu Can imitate any of this! I just made my ubuntu look like Mac. Right now :)

  • @MicroHelper Yes, imitate like Linux always do :D

  • I'm going crazy with Mac

  • If u wanna use it leyter.. xddd

  • i have a question, can I use a Mac OS on a regular computer or do I have to buy a Mac coputer?

  • @sanjinkurt you can search for hackintosh ;)

  • @sanjinkurt normally you can't except maybe through a virtual machine. there was a company once that made regular pcs and equipped them with some special chip that made them appear like macs to osx but i think they got sued and shut down by apple.

  • can you delete the firefox drive?

  • why cant we just be friends and live in harmony and stop fighting

  • Mac is shit!! expensive and does things just like ubuntu or windows ( I personaly use Ubuntu10.10 on my laptop and Windows 7 on my pc because I play lot's of games :)) ) but stil Mac is shit

  • @frak6666 No you just don't know anything about Mac like all Apple spitters.

  • Great video for linux users too!! I've been using Ubuntu since it came out and it's amazing how similar mac os X is! I'm currently considering buying my first mac as I'm fed up with poor hardware support in ubuntu yet I need something that has a terminal and can run apache in a unix environment, ssh etc..

Anyway, great video, really informative! Cheers.

  • Yes. Could anyone tell me about bootcamp? Can I delete the other OS on my partitioned HD and regain the memory set aside or is it perminte? Also, how does windows run on a Mac, can Linux be booted on a Mac or is it only windows?
