"I turn my collar to the cold & damp" - Sound Of Silence. When that lyric played, Rorschach turned his collar. When All Along The Watchtower was being played, the lyrics match up with the scene where Ozymandias' cat growls & Nite Owl & Rorschach are walking in the snow. I really dug how the music was used. Especially Unforgettable & The Times They Are-A Changin'
For someone who didn't read the novel, you really nailed what was wrong about the movie -- the story and characters were there, but the movie was boring and awful, which was totally strange, and a sign of bad direction. My feeling is that Snyder was trying to make Dark Knight when he should have been making Silence of the Lambs. I hope you read the novel, it seems like it would be up your alley, it's very cerebral and when it gets emotionally charged it is super effective. Also, I'm a guy!
Maybe they chose the music bc it takes place in the 1960s with the vietnam war and both songs came out in the mid 60s just a thought ,also i have a strong yen to meet with you after seeing this video !!!!
idk, honestly i enjoyed the soundtrack alot! the leonard cohen song they had during the sex scene was incredible. And i just found out that the song at the beginning of the credits was from MCR. Who'da thought?
my thoughts exactly. even though the songs are great they don't work for this movie. since the comic is a parody of the superhero genre the filmakers (i guess) tried to make up a bunch of cliché sounded scenes. it worked for kill bill but not for watchmen.the music should flow with the scenes not distract you by shouting at your face.
i think the first time you watch a film you should try thinking a little less and try to enjoy the film, if you can suspend disbelief you can realy enjoy films, you could do all your thinking once you've already seen it.
Oh one more thing. Watchmen are not as known as other super hero's. Like spiderman, Batman. but the music was well known. That created a nice contrast. Don't you think.
The music.....well it was perfect. They thought out side the box. The songs were known (yes).. but it set a kind of tone that took you back to that era. Music sets a mood it gave it a kind of documentary feel type dreamy effect. & that's why most people or some can't explain the feeling. You will see more of that in the future. Where their's an apple their's a bite.
About the songs overriding what was happening.. I am of strong opinion that the songs were chosen for the moments when they occurred in the movie and you are SUPPOSED to hear the lyrics and the songs are telling you part of the story. I was surprised by all the choices at first, but as you said, they fit the moments, and songs say more then just what you hear, they also set the mood. Not a slam, but not everyone is addled with ADD or ADHD or whatever.. I thoroughly enjoyed the tracks!
You're right, you do talk a lot about nothing. What you don't know is that we very much like listening to you talk about absolutely nothing. Cheers Kristen.
sound of silence was perfect i think, it was sooooo appropriate. i think that your supposed to think about the lyrics of the song (a world where people don't love/communicate) in the context of the comedians life/death.
i was really impressed. i think its one of those movies oyu watch 2 or 3 times to get everything thats being said in between the lines.
I do agree about the well known music pulling you out of the film even though it fits the scenes well. I am quite sure that they chose the well known songs because they help establish the alternate universe of the watchmen. Similar to the intro with all of the famous images recreated. The recognition was intented, as a way to create the world of the watchmen. A world with a similar history but somewhat different. Amazing songs like sound of silence give a feeling of a particular time and place.
Clearly she hasn't realised that there's both a soundtrack AND a score in the movie...
Its ironic she said the music should just blend in... because it DOES if she didn't notice the score in the background.
The soundtrack was then used to create suspense in the right areas of the film, all the songs were PERFECT for each part and a few of them, if I remember correctly ARE in the Graphic Novel at the end of each chapter.
I liked the music, but I felt most of it didn't fit with the tone of the movie. I agree it was very distracting. I don't think they selected the roght songs for the movie. I loved the Bob Dylan at the beggining though.
whats with the lip pierce? You look soooooo much better without it, Im not trying to be mean, for real. You are so pretty and it distracts from that, ALOT.
Thanks for sharing your opinion about the movie and its music. And I don't mind that you talk for four minutes and wear a lot of clothes. I have a yen for such women.
I also love the amount of emphasis that it put on how unique we each are and how, we ourselves, our lives, are a miracle. As well as the meaning of emotion and why its so important.
love the video, and dont worry, you look beautiful even as a bum.
2. i liked the cinematography, they did a great job artistically
3. i loved the songs
4. i liked the ideas about life that the storyline played with including how meaningless, but meaningful it may or may not be and how that contradictory fact is what makes life so complicated. ......
i like the lip ring! i love that song too. i havent seen the watchmen. i totally get the whole consciously noting different aspects of the film thing too
Some of the music corresponded to lyric excerpts that preceded instalments of the comic. I agree that imposed over scenes, some songs did seem out of place.
I like the bathrobe, by the way! I thought it was an expensive coat at first. :P Woo!
Hi i highley reccomend you read the novel it explains more in depth about the characters ect and other key elements. half the battle for these guys was to fit somthing huge into a gap of 2hrs. i found the music was very fitting except the halayula song witch kinda felt like a joke on the movie. opening assasination scene with the 50s music was awsome .
I... thought the movie was so-so. Big fan of the book, thought the film was mediocre. I guess there a few things I enjoyed, but it wasn't that great. Music! Loved the songs, good songs they are. Not so good in parts in the movie! A few were appropriate, a lot were distracting or just just plain awkward (Hallelujah...).
Clothes are good, especially nifty outfits, keep them on. This is coming from a straight male viewer ^_^
When I saw watchmen I was also fidgety, it was too long for me I guess. I did like the 99 luft balloons song though, Nanalew's video made me listen to the english and german versions like 2947 times.
I enjoyed the music of Watchmen and although I knew all the songs by heart, I didn't think it subtracted from the film. I think they chose those songs because the music really defined that era of American life and they wanted to show when the movie was taking place.
I really enjoyed everything about Watchmen so maybe I'm biased, but I fell in love with the whole film.
awesome movie there were a few scenes where nothing much was really happening and there was music being played but also keep in mind when it comes to comic based super hero movies they arnt you usual movies they always have a different feel to them because of how they are, it was very super hero ish kinda movie in the way they done everything imagine reading it as a comic and look at the fight scenes etc, like the music overpowering a bit in some scenes is just how they would be
Soundtrack was awesome. Especially the begining montage to the times are a changing. Technically the squid was in there but it was S.Q.U.I.D. (Name of the generator). Overall a good film, I thought Matthew Goode was good (Ozy)
Watchmen, it was an hour too long in my opinion, some hot chicks in it, I didn't read it before hand or really pay attention to the plot but it still seemed interesting. Still not sure what it was really about but in the end I didn't care. I though it was good but I wouldn't see it again, it was just too long. Maybe a one hour condensed version I would.
Music with movies in general, M. Night Shyamalan in The Village(I think) in the DVD extras was stated to have wanted no music in horror films until he was convinced that it was neccessary. I think it adds a necessary element but it needs to be done right otherwise it can really make things suck.
Okay.. I had to imdb the soundtrack, cause I haven't seen the movie yet.
And I just briefly looked at a few of the comments left before this one only to see not one, but two complaints, about a 'terrible Hallelujah cover' played during a scene - it's the freakin' original by Leonard Cohen!
That being said, the soundtrack is definitely packed with good tunes, but to me it pretty much seems like an easy/quick way out: It's a shame if the music takes away the focus from the film itself..
First of i like the way you said you weren't going to spoil who dies in the movie and half a minute later you did....i'm not pissed i've seen the movie twice already so no spoils for me :] as far as the soundtrack goes, those songs were probably chosen to give the viewers an idea what era it is. because in the graphic novel, it jumps from the past to present A LOT . so like the unforgettable - 50's sound of bob dylan 60's silence late 60's that's my 2 cents on that

I agree. I think the music stuck out too much. They really should have made an original score for it.
Some of the scenes the songs fit perfectly but I think they tried to hard to make them fit with the era instead of setting the tone of each scene.

I thought the soundtrack was pitch perfect. It evoked the era that the film was emulating. This is one of the very few soundtracks I want to own.
The graphic novel is much deeper and has a different tone. I think you have to take both the novel and the film on their own merits however.
