  • kk whos called the number?

  • Wow did I ever know GE actually made cell phones?

  • 3 Wats of RF power was the advantage of using these phones. Now days you get about a quarter watt if you are lucky and the towers do the rest of the work.

  • These large mobile phones may look like junk compared to today's small iPhones but they were more dependable back then even compared to today's phones. My grandma used to have one and she lived off a dirt road that led deep into the forest. They worked great even in that terrain.

  • This makes my droid look like shit

  • If these phones would still work, they would be great for those dead zones, cause they have a much more powerful antenna than a blackberry.

  • anyone tried calling that number to see if they still carry it?

  • Cost of shoulder surgery not included!

  • I like how they say its light-weight.

  • Only $397 bucks? Fuck getting the iPhone I am getting this. Last number redial sold me.

  • LIGHTWEIGHT

  • @SeberHusky i know right? lol

  • $397.00 then is like $708.55 today.

  • Damn you I tried to call!

  • 3 Watts allowed by law!!! That was da birth of Cancer right durr!!

  • Can I upgrade this phone so it can have the latest version of Android for $397? LOL!

  • same characteristics as iphone 5...

  • Aren't you just salivating with wanting one? Admit it you miss those days don't you?

  • @coffygirl

LOL I got a bunch of these old bag phones. Not General Electric's though...but Motorola's...

  • Aren't you just salivating with wanting one? Admit it you miss those days don't you?

  • channel capacity? Was that a walkie talkie or a phone?

  • You can take it in your car? I gotta get this!

  • OMFG LIGHTED KEYPAD AND 30 NUMER MEMORY SPEED DIALING OMFG I MUST TO HAVE THIS PHONE, HE IS PORTABLE TOO !!!

  • @14Greekboy14 Hey gayboy you stupid faggot stop cursing God, and stop pretending you somehow pretending modenr technology makes you superior in any fashion because 20 years ago things were different what alsoer you are

  • @deltapunk21 ok ? and the point is ? LOL

  • @deltapunk21 I agree with you

  • portable! HA!

  • @Icebeam47 its very portable you can carry it around what are you are bitch

  • 3 Watts!! That's fucking nuts, that kind of power could fry your brain. I'm glad we have a lot more sites now so we don't need to slow fry our brains while making calls and become a vegetable by 40 years old.

  • compare that to the iPhone 4 or Droid 2 and its features lmao..

  • @Azeious wow you immbecilic babies pretend modern technology fell out of the sky what incessant modernist losers and fags

  • @deltapunk21 Haha, someone's in a bad mood, or gone done up the ass?

    calm down wanker.

  • and whats so portable about that cell phone

  • @elmalacopa you can move it around retard portable radios are big and you can move them around they aren't fixed just because you are a dumb pussy and can't lift 3 pounds and walk around yes makes you an ignorant faggot now go kill yourself

  • $400....I'm glad the antenna was included!

  • Adjustable volume control, WOW!!!!

  • Wow i dont even have that much tied up in a 3gs

  • Yeah, whats the trade off twenty one years later? Well, back then the only thing distracting to a driver might have been his girlfriend giving him head! Today, he can surf the net, watch porn on Xtube, all on the phone while driving! Every time something comes along to make life more convenient, it winds up becoming a nuisance. Now you see "I drones" walking around holding there I-Phones gazing at them like they had some sort of magical powers, almost hypnotized by them, what a society!

  • That's it! No hidden charges!

    $20 shipping charge.

    lol

  • Quality-made GE Cell Phone from 1989... laugh all you want about how much of a dinosaur this is... 21 years from now tell me you can't say the same thing about today's iPhone.

  • how mutch did it cost to use

  • About 55 cents a minute was about the ballpark for 1989 cell phone costs... I think.

  • Cell phone manufacturers need to focus on the signal strength of phones and voice quality. I have no need for txt messaging or internet capability. What I want is a phone, not a tiny computer in my pocket!

  • In LW I don't think that was a cell phone, could have been a radio phone, the had those way before cells. But ya, it's insane to think a phone in thx 80s wad bigger than a VCR in the 80s

Oh and typing on an itouch ranks up there with driving into a pile of mule dung, thank you

  • Hey Zoomer, a little bit of information, Cellular or mobile phones have been around for many years, they like the internet were only used by the military!

  • i like how epic the music is.

  • That shit is like one of those field phones they had in the Army decades ago. IDK if they still have em.

  • Wow, 30 number speed dial. Impressive

  • I've got one!!

  • You wanna see something funny....check out "Wall Street"..('87 or 88)...theres scenes where either Gordon Gekko (Michael Douglas' character) or Charlie Sheen's character are seen in their car or walking around with one of the "hip" monster sized cellphones of the day..this was HIP back then, especially in '87....also in "Lethal Weapon"...Danny Glovers "portable" cell phone in the car (with the enormous back-pack like charger in the car trunk!)....those were the days!

  • 397 dollars was a good price for a cell phone in the 1980s. A majority of the cell phones cost over 800 dollars back then.

  • Looks more like a car phone

  • Does this thing have bluetooth??

  • hahahahahahhaha nice one :D

  • "3W of power - MAXIMUM ALLOWED BY LAW"

Like it's a good thing! Maximum power for maximum cancer!

  • Amazing that there are still nutters around who believe cellphones cause cancer. LOL

  • They have developed Bach Rescue Remedies for that, haven't they?

  • And they can pop popcorn too. ;-)

  • $397 INCLUDING antenna ?!! You have GOT to be kidding me....I'll take THREE!...(by the way, 'Also Sprach Zarathrusta' playing in the backround...like this was the event of the last 100 years!!)

  • yeah bro laughed as much as you did when i first saw this commercial but if you could travel back to 1989 you would think this cell phone would be the latest in electronics

i mean look at what were probably gonna think about the first-generation iphone in 2027

  • So you could buy it without antenna? Then it would be useless. And it took hours to charge it for half an hour of conversation?

  • with a antenna! xD

  • Look at this fantastic low price: 397$. lol This is the best we could do after the 1400$ Radio Shack cell phone.

  • Affordable, transportable...

Two wrongs words, what other things this thing can be ABLE of?

  • that's what 20 years does to technology!

  • Why A Ric Flair Theme?

  • remember this show it used to come after Macgyver i yust love macgyver SHow and this cell phone i got in my bursday in the end of 1989

  • Lightweight, huh. That commercial looks more like an infomercial.

  • They call that portable?! lol

  • Cell phones in 1989 when they were first announced already had been adjustable, and already had redials like now, and since then probably more things have been added to cellular phones.

  • all i could hear was that guy GASPING between every word

  • Its cus he was masterbating to the cellphone.

  • He was gasping for air....ready to pass out from excitement!

  • Looking at this shows that we have progressed quite a lot in 19 years. Now mobile phones have 5 megapixel cameras, plays games, have GPS and plays music. They do cost about the same though.

  • I love General Electric, because there's such a wide range of quality in their products. I mean, they make nuclear reactor parts, some of the most highly engineered and expensive products in the world, and they also make the shittiest and cheapest TV's you can buy. I used to sell them, and one started on fire on the sales floor one day. Let us hope that doesn't happen with one of our nuclear reactors.

  • After 18 years of electronic technology progression you gotta just sit back and laugh... wow $397 - only the thinnest and most high-quality camera phones would cost that much now. And adjusting for inflation and that would be like $520 today. Lightweight? Wow are you serious... like anyone today would have a problem carrying cell phones on them? Last number redial... wow how much times have changed now that we have like last 300 number redials on phones today.

  • lightweight wtf were they comparin it to weights?

  • Horn alert: when you forgot it on at night and someone called you your car's horn awakened all the neighborhood :-D

  • nice!

  • I guess if you can put a handle on a stove it's portable, too. LOL

  • lol. and phones still cost that much now
