The very idea that the 'real' Paul Whaley would ever be playing with a Doors tribute band is ridiculous! A basher like Whaley restricting himself to imitating Johnny Densmore little 'rat-a-tat-tat'? GIMME A BREAK!

Paul was still friends with both Dickie AND Randy Holden, and played with both! Perhaps he could have bridged the gap in getting them back together?

@notfragile33 It's possible. Randy said he looked Dickie up in Cologne , Germany , but , could'nt reach him. So , the possibility was there , I guess , but , not anymore.

Paul is a sweetheart , a fine human being. If he thought he could pull that off , without pissing anybody off , I'm sure he would havetried.

@HaightandAshbury Leigh is still on the West Coast , and , reportedly , doing all right. He did that one short set with Dickie and Prairie Prince (TUBES , ETC.), as Blue Cheer, BUT , after that , declined to play with the latter day Blue Cheer , even as a guest.

He has his own band that's decidedly more Hippie - sounding. Gary Yoder and Randy Holden , Dickie once confirmed to me , are doing well , and playing music when the mood strikes them.

This is a really cool video. This is the first time I have actually seen his face up close and yes he definitely looks like a Whaley, especially the eyes. We have never met even though he is my cousin. He lives on the West coast and I live on the East coast. Hopefully one day I will get to meet him and the rest of the California bunch! @TheChiFlows he wasn't an incredibly good drummer, but he was a very inspiration drummer who layed out the style for many forms of music to come, and he was certainly loud

@happywarmgun13 -- Unfortunately playing loud and playing with skill and taste are not the same things. Any one can play loud.. Great drummers can also play softly . But an unskilled drummer can only play loud. Because he doesn't have the technique to play softly with taste. That takes years of hand development and  rudimental knowlege

I have a Paul Whaley, Rogers, Swivomatic, script badge, Powertone kit, set-up. 3 mounted, 2 floor toms & double kick like the classic b & w stage photo on Outsideinside album cover.

How many drum sets did Rogers sell due to that photo? Hm ..wonder where that kit is now. It should be in the Rock & Roll Hall Of Fame.

I began playing drums in the mid-60's and Paul was one of my first influences. I still have the Blue Cheer albums that I bought in the '60s.

It's great to see him still playing and it would be an incredible pleasure to meet him.

That's the Paul Whaley I met.....He could sense my thrill in meeting him and the rest of the band.

After the show he walked across the stage and handed me one of his drumsticks. No big deal for him, but I guess it's his way to say "thanks for listening"

You know what's interesting here is that Paul is still playing with Blue Cheer at the same time I saw another video where he was recently playing with Randy Holden. Is there still "bad blood" between the two factions or what? I guess Dickie's okay with Paul going over to the "enemy camp" to play with Randy. Maybe Paul could be the one to bring them all back together?

The real Paul Whaley is a Prince among men , that's him in the footage above. The early B.C. did back Clifton Chenier , I've read (!!). Whaley is not about bullshit. He may have said he shared a BILL with The Elevators or The Watchband (With Oxford Circle , I'd wager.), but , I've always found him to be focused , not one to think he'd benefit from lies like that other guy (I've seen footage of him - Man , just hang it up. Paul is man enough to forgive, and move on.). John.

This guy said the stage name was because he was into whales (???) I showed him this video & said "Thanks, I'll call Leigh tonight. I'll call my lawyers on Monday" or something. He said he played a show with Clifton Chenier one night too, but said he went by many different stage names. WTF? Is this dude even a drummer??? Nice guy, but I'm confused!

Amazing! Everyone wants to be Paul? I love when these guys talk, but have no proof, and then can't play. Anyway, I've never heard of this one either. There's so many people out there that say they're someone that they are not, it's amazing. Thanks for writing!

I just met the "imposter" a few minutes ago at my CD shop in Oregon who says he's the real Paul Whaley but his actual name is Rich something. His last name is Italian. He also says he played with Chocolate Watch Band & 13th Floor Elevators but I can find NO PROOF. Who is this guy? He's a short white-haired guy who claimes to be good friends with Leigh. Weird.
