This is a clip from the the 1970s classic martial arts documentary "The Super Weapon". There was tension between these two fighters, it got rough and they started turning up the gears. The two fighters are from different dojos, one from Nisei Goju and the other from Chinese Goju. Filmed at Nisei Headquarters: "University of the Streets" and yeah, it did get serious near the end. Sensei Ruiz had to stop this fight before someone got hurt.
osu,I believe to much tention by both.Dojo sparring should allow the techniques to flow.If both sides are trying to knock the head off each other. No body benefits.
Why allow lawyers and politicians to dictate our lives AT us? Sparring like this used to be common. You learned to fight and be a man. There was respect. Now, the LEAST among us demand we behave like whiny sissies, and we allow. it. Your power is in the jury room and the voting booth. Reject their sissified world view. Do not allow them to turn you into a robotic girlie man. If YOU don't want to learn to fight, go somewhere else; no pay day for being a sissy and demanding others be too.
I love this video as a practitioner of over 40 years these were the days hard kumite and respect for other artists. Back then we all tried to learn from one another and demonstrated a spirit of humilty and gratitude for the art we practiced. God bless.
extraordinary display of technique! i take my hat off to these brothers. In Kyokushin there is full contact, but no hand strikes to the face. Kicks are permitted. This was a good classic dojo extravaganza.
As a junior circa 1974, I fought in several Milwaukee/Chicago area tourneys. To score points to the body, we had to make full-contact. We couldn't hit the area covered by a catcher's mask (though we could attack those areas with controlled techniques). Yet we could blast one another in the head's back or sides. We wore cups, for which I'm grateful, since an opponent once blasted me with a round kick down there. I remained upright, though wobbly. But guess who won:)?
@stevevandien This was a Chicago tournament, and the referee was the great Ken Knudson. I was fighting to remain upright, but kept bending over in spite of myself. Knudson called time, put his hand on my back and said: "You OK, son?" I tried to say "Yes sir," but the words came out like "Wessh UR." Knudson said, "OK, bend over and BREATHE. DEEPLY. Then let it out. Then BREATHE again. RELAX. Breathe again, son. Then let it out. Take all the time you need."
OOS! YEAH I WISH WE DIDNT HAVE TO WEAR GEAR IN TOURNAMENTS!!! makes me feeel trapped.. i been studying anermican goju for 7 years at mountain dojo! Albert Casal! OOS!
guy in black enjoyed that a little too..much dude in white is gonna be purple and blue for months lmao love how they have no pause in attacks, no dancing, no slappy type hits and are just hard core man the good old days, bruce i'd send them to wonder land i think
Full speed and power with no gloves or headgear....that's old school, baby!
Too many martial artists today don't train anywhere near that intensity. Most martial arts schools today are like glorified daycare centers compared to how it was back in the day. Anyone who thinks traditional martial arts don't work on the street, has no clue what they are talking about.
brings me back memories of when i was in the dojo. they did not take it easy on me either, but still that was the best training. no gloves or head gear. what does not kill you only makes you stronger.
@FiasaPower too much respect? they showed great sportsmanship, spirit, conditioning, effort and bravery. This is the nature of goju ryu and bushido. uush.
These are some champs right here, look at the shots these guys take, it doesn't put them out, it doesn't even faze them, they just get up, adjust the gi and keep going at it. Love it.
yeah, that was the best training that a sensei would teach to a student before a student went reach the next belt, thats the real kumite in the nesei goju ryu style in the days 1979 miami, florida
Excellent video. Hat's off to the old timers. This is when you couldnt be a coward or softy and be in Martial Arts. Like today's point Sparring matches.
yep, this was the way my old school training was back in the mid 80's..this is real street fighting...good ole karate...they just cant beat it with anything else.
Bare knuckles shots to the face! Why is karate so gay today? I would have stuck to karate if the training were like this. Much respect for the old timers.
Old school point sparring, that's the way it's done. Too bad TKD ruined martial arts and point sparring. However, you can still do this in your dojo!!!!
The good ol' day,s that's the way it use to be done, bare hand and no running around, take it like a warrior, fight and then have a drink together
