I notice you use the pressure cooker in a lot of recipes. Do you think it would be a good investment? Seems to make cooking a lot quicker and simpler!
@MonicaReally : Pressure Cooker is a great investment and we use it constantly. Please make sure you read the instructions well before you use it. We just LOVE the PC (pressure cooker).
@MonicaReally My friends from India gave me one of the pressure cookers old roommates left behind when they moved, and it's honestly the best thing I've ever received, especially as far as cooking! It makes things so much quick, simpler, and it makes it VERY easy to eat better! I love it!
There is a brown boiled rice Indian variety called Rose matta rice. Available in Indian stores here in the US. You can try cooking that the same way as this but using a little more water. It is extremely healthy and tastes extremely good.
Doing brown rice in microwave also gives a separate texture and will take lesser time than the 40-50 minutes that these two methods take. The key is to keep the brown rice soaked in water for at least half an hour or more after washing it, and then it will cook in about 15-20 minutes at full power in microwave...
I use my pressure cooker to make rice. I recommend that you reduce the amount of water by 1/4 to 1/3 cup and bring it to one whistle... allow to rest for 5 min after pressure drops... Thanks for your videos... pls keep them coming. :-)
love brown rice...i replaced rice with either brown rice or quinoa over 3 years ago and I can see and feel the difference, brown rice tastes great with curries and stuff but i haven't tried making kichdi or matar bhatt with it, have you?
In Ayurveda brown rice is considered as somewhat drying, especially when not very thoroughly cooked/soaked - so you could add a teaspoon of ghee or sesame oil when cooking or serving.
I'll have to try the PC method. Usually I use stove-stop but I pre-soak the rice. I find stove-top cooking without pre-soaking leaves the rice with a slightly grainy chewiness that probably makes it harder to digest (and therefore extract all the nutrient from / can aggravate constipation in those who are prone) but pre-soaking it helps it to cook through more evenly.
I'm yet to try brown basmati but will try it soon.
and what do you eat brown rice with?

One could be used for sushi, and the other for rice dishes.

What about the open boil method... have you guys ever used this? Just boil in an open pot until tender... drain and serve. Thanks

So Indian girls are better for you than white girls? I guess Asians are "whole grain"
