I live in Atlanta and went down to both the Omni and Atlanta-Fulton County Stadium demolitions. The Omni was beginning to fall apart (rust and corrosion were big culprits) and plans had been in place to replace it with the current Phillips Arena. Atlanta-Fulton County Stadium was demolished after the 1996 Olympics require the building of what would become Turner Field, which became the Braves' home the following year, so AFCS was no longer needed.
What happened to making things to last?

@GuardianOfFreyja The Omni was a very unusual looking arena. I wonder what it was like to watch a game there.
