u.s. team won just because of a miraculous judge made by american umpire, bob davidson. He became a household name in Japan after that heroic judgment. he is the true hero of the game, although US team could not take advantage of his judge by losing to Korea and Mexico. without davidson, they had had lost three in a row.

Oh I agree, the format was awful. I think the USA's problem was they didn't care. Simply put. They were more interested in not getting hurt than winning the tournament. Cuba, Japan, the Dominicans, Korea...they all cared (and still do) and they did well. I don't think the American players except for Curtis Granderson really care about winning this torunament.
