Riding on sidewalks does only work if pedestrians and cyclists respect each other. Seems to be the case in Tokyo. In most cities it won't work because some cyclists start to behave like on a race track and then pedestrians start complaining and cyclists are rightly banned from the sidewalks. In my part of Berlin it works, in most it doesn't and it is not allowed anyway.
@up0 yeah its great, thats because there not many bike lanes i dont think, , there weren't any at all. what city do you live in though? i live by the beach in cali now and your able to ride the sidewalks.
I like the sound of the cicada chirping away there. This looks so great that I definitely want to try it next time I'm in Japan. Great fun.

riding bike in tokyo is much more interesting than other metros. Cool that you are allowed to ride on sidewalk. not allowed here in US.

Depends on the city, really. I've seen plenty of sidewalk-cyclers when I got lost in downtown Seattle a couple weeks ago.
