I play without shoes because i "feel" better the pedal board. Playing with shoes, sometime, it's like playing the snare drum with gloves !!! :D :D
This video is old, and i can tell you now I use Iron Cobra Pedals and i play "with" shoes...
With shoes you have much power, but less control ! Usually, I play without shoes when i need to play music with long feet rolls... it's more relaxing and more easy (less weight on the feets)
I find myself having more control with shoes. Could be because I've played with shoes the last two years ;). Just got into this double pedal thingy (been training for the last five months I think) and I'm up in a solid 150-160 now, can push it to 170-180 but that usually ends up pretty damn sloppy. By the way, this vid was very good except for the fact that your snare sounds kinda bad to me. I think I'll stick to the normal single strokes when it comes to the bass drum though ;).
@LapidaDrummer Strangely enough, I've noticed that I play faster without my shoes on but I have more control and power with my shoes on.... just a little bit opposite of your experience.
@ Jabasto each drummer's preferences are different. Find what's comfortable for you.
@LapidaDrummer well its personal preference i have better grip and feel with shoes an allows me to achieve higher speeds its all personal prefrence :)
That's depend. My technique is based on put some weight on the pedals, mantaining the rebound over time.
I use different muscles of the leg, but not all-togheter... it's a combination of motions, and it's difficult to explain... Try it, forget to do all strokes , search for "move"
thats not flatfoot ur just barely lifting the heel up so its heels down i use it for faster speeds 200 bpm+

That is just a heel toe method done kinda sloppy. LOL

Why do you play the pedals without shoes? Is it more practical? Or is just to show better the technique?

it looks like your using steve smith's constant release motion. not straight flat foot. very cool to see someone else use that on double bass

Please let me know what is better to use when playing double pedal. Your whole leg or just your ankles?

maximum rebound? does tht mean u tighten the springs to max? :S
thanks for replying though ^^
Darndez2 4 years ago
No, the Axis-A have leverage control lever on the top of pedal.
This is set to have maximum rebound, but the springs are REALLY loose. Anyway, you can play this technique on every pedal if it is set correctly.
LapidaDrummer 3 years ago
hey! wat angle is ur footboard adjusted to? wut pedal are u using? and how much ur foot is away from the very top of the pedal?
Darndez2 4 years ago
I currenty use Pearl Eliminator...
but the pedal u see in this video is "Axis Longboard A" series.
My footboard is adjusted very low, and the Axis is set for maximum rebound (All lever down).
Note that this technique is like push/pull with your hands.
