I find I rarely come across music videos that become my 'favorites... but this one has become one of them. I think it perfectly captures the flawed (and often tragic) beauty that thrived at Warhol's Factory. Warhol's film work really documents the characters of the New York art scene.... so well ,in fact, that many didn't even require audio.
Fantastic! Just what I was looking for. I've been on a Joe D'Alessandro trip all day. He also had some success when he came back to the USA, appearing in Coppola's "The Cotton Club" and John Waters' "Cry-Baby," among many others. But, nothing like what could have happened had he stayed in the states. Reed very publicly called him the stupidest man in world for leaving for Europe just when he was starting to become known here. I'm editing a collection of his loops for my website ;)
how sad it truly is that our people still continue to live in the abyss of addiction, filth & torment...the more things stay the same, they never change...
This is the most outstanding Lou Reed videos I have ever seen. It truly expresses what the meaning is behind the song. The song has been around for around 40 years and still get air play; it is one of those songs that will NEVER fade away. I remember when it first hit the airwaves, timeless........
Beautiful! Congratulations and thank you for posting!!! Just a word of clarification, though, Andy Warhol died due to medical negligence (Hyper hydration poisoning caused by excessive intravenous feed), not because of pre-existing causes.
@enriqueferreol > Andy Warhol was never 100% after the shooting and never completely healed. He wore a corset to keep pressure on the wounds, He had lung issues that brought on pneumonia; the intravenous feed made that much worse. He likely wouldn't have needed the surgery if not for the shooting because the surgery was to take out his ruined gall bladder. Technically, Valerie Solanas should have been charged with murder after his death, but nature took care of that for the justice system.
@enriqueferreol > Andy used to bleed from his wounds if he strained himself too much. That was part of the reason he didn't like people touching him--fear that he would start bleeding in public. Did you ever see the pictures of his stitches/scars? I am truly surprised he made it at all since the original reports say he died in the ER; clinically dead for over a minute and a half.
Best I knew back then was that? Sugar Plum Fairy was a slang term for drug dealer.
It turns out to be Joe Campbell -
In 1955, aged 19, Joe met Harvey Milk, and they lived together for 7 years. Another lover, Oliver "Billy" Sipple, an ex-Marine, became famous for thwarting an assassination attempt on President Gerald Ford!
Later Joe Campbell starred in Warhol's My Hustler as the "Sugar Plum Fairy",? a dealer competing for the affections of a "Dial-a-Hustler"!
@KarelBata Fascinating history :) Have you watched the movie, MILK? And if so was Joe the 1st Boyfriend he had on there? Or was that all kind of inaccurate? As far as the romantic life went if you know....

Well done. 52,000 views is a shame. It should be in the millions.

Captures the cold, gritty, dirty NYC of the late 60's - early 70's perfectly. It was also an infinitely more interesting place then. Bravo.
