  • Cool video, thanks for posting!

  • u know that brandon guy knows his stuff just by seeing him smile

  • good vid, but earrings in training is an no-go! you can hurt yourself and maybe your opponent too,

  • I am new to MMA. Can someone please explain to me how the guard (on the ground) works? Closed guard, open guard, rubber guard? Advantages/disadvantages? Which one is best for submission attempts?

  • just continue watching these guy's videos they are great and know alot, ive used many of their techniques in practice and they all seem to work quite well

  • Unlike wrestling, we like to be on our backs on the floor in a close guard position because you have all your weapons(four limbs) enabled. You can say that it is a "dominant" position; being put into someone's guard is not. It's all about improvisation, so you need to know all your basics

  • closed guard keeps your opponent from running or getting up and kicking u in face, keep him far or close to u, it gives u lots of control. now u can attack him with sweeps, kicks, locks, chokes or get up. Open guard is when u unlock ur ankles from closed guard. U cant perform any of the above with your ankles locked. When ur in open guard it is easier for him to get better position to finish you. If u keep a closed guard in MMA you can die a slow punching death its a suicide trap.

  • As a begginner start with closed guard training advance players train with open guard. ur guard or open has to be very aggressive/ attacking. The guard is not to be used for just lying there. its only a matter of time . he will pass. Use a combination drill e.g attack arm, neck, other arm, neck, sweep L, R, push / pull him, sit up, stand up. these will teach u about his stability & balance, Then when u learn techniques u will know how close & open guards affects opponents behavior

  • if u dont train why are you even interested in mma, seems weird to me.

  • I am a fan of the UFC. MMA is a spectators sport, you don't have to do it to watch it or like it. Jeez.....

  • @billysue2 thats because your one dimensional dude with no hindsight

  • @headbull2009 you mean insight, not hindsight, everybody has hindsight, not everyone has insight.I think its weird that someone who was so interested in mma techniques wouldnt be training in it.Ive never met a fan who doesnt train although there must be lots, you definitely wont appreciate the grappling and wrestling if youve not done it,striking is obvious to everyone.

  • @billysue2 "hindsight is always better than foresight" so wheres your insight into understanding that even fans can enjoy MMA regardless of there personal preferences to training!. My brother loves MMA hes only 5yo does he need to train for it? its a paperview sport dude dont you think? I do train hard and i understand your view from a fighters perspective who trains differents disciples but end of the day mate its loved by millions.

  • @headbull2009 i dont let my kids watch mma,its not consistent with the values i teach them.I cant see what a non martial artist would watch mma for other than pure violence of it and I dont agree with that. These guys tend to be immature fantasists, ive sat behind them too many times at events.Weirdos to say the least.

  • @billysue2 our opinions differ i guess but i one thing its a great sport to get into

  • I'm assuming you already know the answer to that question? or should I answer it?

  • on your back you always want to utilize the guard. it gives you control of opp's entire body. from there you can break someone's arm, choke someone. closed guard is for better control. open guard is your offense and rubber guard, well, be creative

  • Sorry but I ainn't quite sure what you mean by guard. Closed guard is when you wrap your legs around your opponent? Open guard is when you do not wrap your legs around your opponent? What's a rubber guard? What do you mean by guard at the beggining?

  • i wrote you a commen in your profile, you can reply back if you need something else, btw dont forget you need to train in a dojo, youtube jutsu wont help you.

  • @alfzonic I agree with training, but it is great to look at lots of techniques because everybody does little things different so its good to see alot of technique then take it to training and see what works best for you.

  • that was a sweet sweep from 5:21

  • Comment removed

  • look I know you guys know what you are talking about... but may I suggest as a rule of practice... perfect practice make perfect. I suggest waering some heavly padded glove and doing these drills at much greater speed.

  • theres this sweet guard were u put one leg on hip double wrist control and have your other leg on there bicep so they cant punch you

  • I caught a guy in the head and arm triangle from the guard and did that sweep today. Learned it straight from this video last night. thanks

  • I like Darcing people... it can be hard to get though... I can never break a persons pauster correctly... my legs alwasy end up around a person waist rather than chest.

  • Nice. There's some fat guy who will just stays in my guard because he can't pass and he'll just

lye flat on top of me. I think this head and arm triangle and the sweep might be just what I'm looking for.

  • Nice techniques! I like how you guys broke it down!

  • Nice explanation of the basics.

Have you ever heard of a "front naked choke" - like an arm triangle choke, without the opponent's arm in the way ?

I know it is not allowed in competition, but neither are heel hooks, and there are vids of heel hooks.

    Thanks !!!
