  • the pbs one is MOSTLY drug-induced

  • The Russian logo: THE HELL?!? Renaissance logo: What was the creator smoking when he/she made that?

  • How on Earth are these creepy?

  • am I the only one who doesnt see anything creepy here whatsoever?

  • Creepy? I remember all of these as a child and never found anything scary or creepy about any of them.

  • 1:54 UBU is pretty not creepy. What's wrong with this logo?

  • 1:21 this is a example of the wrong music

  • ...dic...hehe...subliminal message...

  • these are not scary at all

  • The NET one was the worst

  • @dngl21 duly noted; I can't imagine being the poor kid sleeping while those gay letters fly through his window. Plus, the company didn't have a very good track record (i.e. Captain Planet), and hearing the kid pronouncing the company name at the end made me feel like a rape victim.

  • These actually scared the heck out of me until I cried :) lol

  • Not exactly cheap, but old fashioned

  • Damn I remember this stuff, made watching stuff with these logos in it at night silent hell afterwords.

And Simitar sounds like the gates of hell opening, just saying.

  • 2:44

  • WGBH will never stop being scary as fuck.

  • the face in the P of the PBS logo... it's amazing how clearly i remember being afraid of and also kind of mesmerized by that as a kid.

  • @SimAlex20000 for me, that was horror for kids

  • Comment removed

  • these ARE creepy...especially Rankin Bass, Paramount, Worldvision and the first CTW...jeez

  • ...How are these creepy? I was expecting more along the lines of something like Giygas... except Viacom. Viacom is scary because they take teenagers hard work at making YTPs and just destroy them... with a V shaped hammer on fire, probably.

  • I just feel nostalgia at seeing these old logos. I can't remember any logo that scared me as a kid. I can't quite see how they would scare me. Maybe if they had clowns, clowns were one of the few things that did scare me. That, and horror movies. I actually, LOVED most of these logos, especially the sci-fi sounding and looking ones, that reminded me of Tron. "Sit UBU, sit" was fun!

  • Glad to know I wasn't the only kid who was creeped out by some of these.

  • 0:27 Shit, that one's homicidal...

  • some creepy and some dumb like WGBH still using that circa 1978 closing logo... PBS was always odd too... the one at .40 takes the cake for scary..

  • I liken those who don't understand the "creepy" aspect of these logos to people who incessantly ask "why?" when they see abstract art. Experience the burden of "why?" Some of these scared me beyond belief when I was a child; they threatened to invade my untainted outlook on life.

  • @Decades81 They ask "why" because they genuinely don't see what exactly is supposed to be scary. We're asked to see into the mind of another, but can't find where to start. These logos conjure feelings in many people, none in others. I only feel fondness for many of the logos out of a since of a remembrance of fun shows. As a child, some logos I found fascinating, especially those that looked futuristic by having neon lighting or metallic logos, like robots which I was fond of as a girl.

  • I don't understand the "creepy" part. What's creepy about production company logos?

  • I remember some of those. But I dont understand why people say its scary or creepy. There words and designs.

  • I don't get the scary part!

  • There was one over here in the UK that scared the crap out of kids in the 1970's. It would come out of nowhere and the following fanfare would make you jump a mile high. I refer you to the Yorkshire Television chevron of the 1970's and 1980's. Even now, I still shudder at the sound of it, and I'm in my 40's!

  • 0:26 EPIC AWESOMENESS. now thats going to be my intro song for youtube vids!

  • This is the stuff nostalgia is made of.

  • *sigh* these arent scary.....they actuly bring back alot of memories

  • OMG World Vision!!!!! Hated that one, the full red was just hideous.

DiC, why is there an interloper outside my window while I'm sleeping?

Didn't see the BND logo show up here, but that would still scare me if I were watching TV at night with lights turned off.

  • seriously, were these people high when they made these?

  • Not exactly what I'd call "creepy."

  • 1970's was a dark. spacey decade!

  • why does the screen jems logo s have the theold lorimar theme

  • 1:47 Mbrother - Trebles intro

  • 2:13: it sounds like vuvuzelas

  • Nostalic, for sure. But what the hell is scary about any of these?

  • 0:14 is somehow scary so it seems. believing that this was used for a lot of tv show through the 70's and rare appearances until 2001. I was a analog/digital person and that allays gives nostalgics since its last appearance on cable/satellite, it gives the feeling of someone's watching me because of my mistakes that almost led me to an immature violent faggot. Though was my past favorites, i lay my case.

R.I.P. HB Production for Ted's failure because the switch to Cartoon Network Studios blows.

  • Viacom and anthing from PBS is horrifying!

  • did u know that the beginning of the Mark VII Limited intro is used in one of cartoon networks production companies. i cant remember the name of it.

  • What is so scary about NET?

  • 0:31 certainly woke me up lol

  • I didn't realise the Dramatic Chipmunk made the Paramount logo at 0:07

  • Good selection of logos. The ones I like best are the HB Swirling Star and the DiC Kid in Bed because I grew up with them. As for the DKIB logo, I could not recognise the music. The Screen Gems logo had the Lorimar music while the second CTW logo had the WGBH music, which works very well with it. The sound on the Metro Media and NET logos is a bit jumpy though.

  • What's creepy about these?

  • did anyone else laugh at "DIC"

  • How The F*** Is Scary About The HB Logo?!?!

  • Comment removed

  • The 2nd one comes at you so fast....0-0

  • Let me guess, if there was a black screen with nothing but "PBS" in white letters and no sound, you would be afraid of it.

  • Ubu wasn't scary!

  • hanna-barbera still going on boomerang

  • Omg.the first one scared me to death when i was little. So did the dic one 0_0 I also hated the worldview (whatevr its calld) one so much i used to cover my ears wen it came on.Thumbs up if u did too:/

  • I never liked the old, slowly rotating HBO logo with its over-the-top fanfare. Or the MPAA rating that followed right behind. I'd have to leave the room until the movie started.

  • LONG LIVE SIMITAR FOR INTRODUCING ME TO GODZILLA!

  • Wow! The Rankin-Bass takes me way back

  • i keep laughing i cant stop laughing i dont know why!!

  • HOLY CRAP! Paramount's "Closest Killer" and 1991-200 "Home Video Feature Presentation plus FBI Warning" logo scared me shit, piss and all when I was little...

    0_0

  • May of these are quite scary...but not the original PBS logo or the one they played before the Muppet Show. These make me think of happy childhood entertainment! the DIC logo shown here is just plain evil, however. As is the famous Paramount "Closet Killer".

  • ВИD!

  • Why do you say these are scary? They did not scare me, actually I was rather facinated by some of them. ?confused?

  • These were in-your-face and loud!

  • These bring back memories.

  • i was born in 1999 and i do not remeber any of these

  • and they havent changed. Logos today are still scary!!!!!

  • Why are these scay I like these damn things they remind me of my childhood when I didn't always want to kill myself

  • Wow, now I see why so many people talk about the Simitar Entertainment logo. It sounds like something you would hear during a horror movie. And the dic logo on here is the one I remember that creeped me out as a kid. Most of the logos are not necessarily scary, but they do come across as a bit eerie,

  • @Christinada5 IMO, that's the scariest logo ever concieved. S from Hell meets V of Doom Up to Eleven.

  • @Meanmanmartin2007

If you mean the 1988-99 Worldvision "WHOOSH Globe" due to the music sounding rather out of date with that two-note Moog synthesizer jingle after the opening WHOOSH sound (the "third" note is actually just the second note without the wind sound playing over it).

  • @ClassicTVMan1981X Yes I think that was the one

  • in latinamerica the rede globo and universidad catolica de chile television wants to eat you

  • Simitar, If you're to close to the T.V, We'll knock your ass back!

  • second one is the best!

  • @nvmarcus For many of us, it's not that we're piss-our-pants-behind-the-sofa terrified of them. They're just unnerving. You must admit, the composers of those synth melodies didn't bother to make them sound natural or musically pleasing in any way. I think some of them are even intentionally dissonant. In many people, they provoke a reaction of, "This is not normal. I don't want to listen to this."

...Though, I find it fun to listen to unsettling noises. (Nightmare Fetishist, I guess.)

  • Dic logo hck? Heck, just ANYTHING from them was ghastly!" :) grin

  • "Oh my god, it's belly button lint!!!! Run and hide!!!!!!!" hahahahahahahaha xD

  • 2:07 Alan B'Stard Television :O

  • You forgot the Vin Di Bona logo

  • i was born late 90's the klasky csupo logo is the scariest logo from my child hood

  • No such thing as too many keyboards!!!!

  • VID is much scarier anyway.

  • Some of the logos, like ITC and Simitar (sp? bad quality) are so cheesy and dynamic that they're just plain awesome.

  • The damn Columbia Picture one...hated dat shit

  • chilllerrrrrrrrr!!! that always scared me!

  • (as Maude Flanders)

    But Think About The Children!!

  • The Moog synthesizer is all over my childhood!

" In Search of "and "Tales from the Darkside"!!

  • The World Elites have called for a New World Order again and again.

  • The only scary logo out of this little line-up was The Viacom "V of Doom". All the rest were pretty harmless.

  • With each generation people become weaker and weaker.

  • i don't understand Closet Killer. how could you make that and NOT think it's scary?

  • I'll tell you what's a scary logo-the WNEW channel 5 next bumper of 1983,singing"the choice is 5!'

  • You must have some serious anxiety disorder to find any of these scary or creepy.

  • @gj804 Sit Odie Sit. Good Dog.*yipp!*

  • @furredmanolpp Granada

  • What's with the CTW logo using the WGBH music(which is much creepier)?

  • Simitar: the other S From Hell.

  • I wonder WTF were they thinking when they created these fuckin' freaks of sounds and graphics? Or was it just the technology that was available back then?

  • @SiPlusPLKV No,The moth bug is the scariest I killed VID Face

  • ELEVENELEVENELEVENELEVEN it never ends omg

  • Simitar sounds like it's going to be something by an 80's prog band like IQ!

  • From my logo research, it can be very complicated to make a logo that is not scary. Since I am only 12, I have been studying lots of logos to help me (if I ever run a TV podcast someday) create a logo thats not scary. These were some great examples that showed me what to avoid. Thank you!! ^U^

  • @MiniStrawberryCakes9 How were any of these scary?

  • @MiniStrawberryCakes9 Hey, I'm 12, I have Asperger's and love logos. Friend me!

  • @MiniStrawberryCakes9 finally someone my age looking at these things i thought i was the only one

  • @MiniStrawberryCakes9 To make a good logo just make it plain and simple. Primitive shapes and a really easy to remember name of the company. The only reason these are classed as scary would probably be that they are older.

  • You can't tell me you were scared by all of these. One, maybe two I understand. But Screen Gems?

  • there was nothing scary about any of this , i just wanna what kinda shit you been smokin

  • What year was 1:00 from?

  • I don't see whats so scary about these tv logos although I do remeber them as a kid. Did anyone else notice he did worldvision twice?

  • 1:39=Hey WGBH, looks like someone stole your music!

  • The Rankin Bass used to get me, and it was always after Christmas cartoons like Frosty the Snowman

  • Holy shit, the Paramount one made me jump.

  • i got to say the BND logo is scary

  • @kreilein34 And if Jon meet with Mr.BND huh??? loooooooooooooooooooooool poor jon

  • that paramount jawn did catch me out there...

  • That Simitar one is BADASS!

  • What about the guy typing and he grabs the paper and throws it in the air and the screen turns white.

  • Just those weird faces on the PBS ones that scare me ):

and the music from the Paramount television

  • @Talic3 The S From Heaven.

  • @ravenfan205 I LOVE the P-Pals! Don't be scared of it!

  • @sonicfanornonfan I'm not scared of it anymore lol. But I was terrified of it as a little kid. 15 now, still creeps me out a little, but it's not like I was when I was little. I used to run and hide at the end of every show because it would come on. Ah well XD

  • @ravenfan205 you ran behind your grandma's armchair. What did your grandma say?

  • @sonicfanornonfan LOL. She used to go "Oh come on! It's only a drawing." I was still scared out of my wits by that logo. Mind you, I was only four at the time, it's not that uncommon for little kids to be afraid of weird things XD

  • @ravenfan205 i thought it was "uh oh she's going to hide!"

  • @sonicfanornonfan Pffft I dunno. I left that comment so long ago. Ah well....

  • I just got scared at 2:35! I thought they cut my internet.

  • Listen To Weiss Very Carefully. At the end of the logo. i always hear here we go!

  • It was the 70's I was a kid! This stuff was Funkadelic type of scary!

  • Only ONE of these scared me when I was little....

  • whats so scary about pbs?

  • Children's Television Workshop,i used to love that as a kid, where is the THX intro thingie, that shit is scary even now and I'm now 30 and it says scariest but that pretty much covers em all, lmao

  • EBS - I would run like a scalded cat and hide behind my grandmothers chair when I heard - "This is a test of the emergency broadcast system...this is only a test." EEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE - HOLY SCHNIKIES THAT CREEPED ME OUT. That test squeal was scarier than any natural disaster or nuclear bomb...

  • Not really getting why they are "scary" I remember almost all of these.

  • ahhahah I thougth i was teh only one to get scaried to death with these things... i guess it's the best translation for my odd fobia of infinite patterns.

  • Sit UBU sit, good dog. *bark*

  • Any kid who was scared of these is a pussy and should have stuck something in a wall outlet to end their miserable existence

  • @a1rh3add

Wasn't really a scared thing per se. it's kind of complicated how it works. something about abstract sounds, colors, shapes, and other things tend to... send some children's old instincts off, making them afraid without knowing exactly WHY they are afraid, which makes them even more afraid and associate the abstract fear with the footage.

essentially, it was literally fearing fear itself.

  • @Exarian Yeah I understand this concept. When I was young these made me excited, not scared. The only things that scared me for no reason when I was young was the spaceballs commercial and the music in the NES version of dejavu when my mom played it... didnt stop me from loving the movie and playing that game till my brain exploded later though. The people who still watched these are cool. I was just making a sick joke because some people are just too pussy still in their adulthood.

  • @Exarian plus even my mom says when I found something that scared me I liked to watch it over and over again. Far back as I can remember i liked the feeling it gave me. It reminded me of the vacuum cleaner feeling. Vhhhuuuummmmmmm

  • This freaks me out now that it's put into this kind of context... Makes me think of some kind of New World Order mind control shit from reptilian aliens that are using these stations to control us :(

  • The Paramount looked like the freaking mountain was after you!

  • Is it weird that Im now 25 and these still make me feel uneasy?

  • I never thought any of them were scary. guess I'm just weird.

  • you dont know how happy i am that other people found this shit as scary as i did haha

  • ugh, with the childrens television workshop logo, did they really not think tht would freak kids out? i mean really think before u make a logo for a kids show.

  • DIC

  • @MatthewSandberg lol....DIC.....its funny cuz u know why

  • Just out of 100% curiosity: what about these station ID's brought about such fear to so many of you. I remember so many of these and enjoying most of them. Especially the ones for Dic, PBS, and the Childrens Television Workshop.

  • @TJNightshayde For me, it mostly had to do with the music in the background. Some of that synthesized music just sounded otherworldly and disjointed...and it felt like it was trying to make me disjointed with it. And then there was the Paramount "Closet Killer" Theme, the second one here. That one used to give me nightmares about psycho truck drivers. That music just seemed like perfect music to induce a passing truck driver to unleash his inner psycho!

  • @rickyfan3956 Thanks for the response! I couldn't imagine what aspect of these was creepy. Perhaps I just have a different perception than a lot of people. Thanks again!

  • The Simitar logo was a bit over the top

  • I would run out of the room when a couple of those came on.

  • I saw one from Russia...that puts all the scary American logos to shame.

  • @newstarcadefan And if jon meet with this russian head on person???

  • I never really saw these as scary, I guess it's just growing up around television.

For some reason, seeing these makes me want to go eat at the theme building restaurant at LAX.

  • Comment removed

  • the simitar entertainment one was more epic than scary

  • I have not slept in 40 years

  • I'm not scared of Viacom either!

  • NET's logo sounded like Midna's theme from Twilight Princess!

  • The golden age of Television.

  • Oh god, the Hanna Barbara one is the scariest one of all

  • @JKSproductions365 I f-ing love that one!

  • @PinkTeardropos yeah, When I was little I was scared of it.Now I luv It to!:)

  • 00:40 the logo is kinda scary looking

  • Yay for ITC! Can anyone guess my favorite movie from ITC?

  • Scary?

  • DIC

  • Why were those logos scary? I'm not even scared of the V of doom.

  • None of these really scared me during childhood, except one. Ubu was always creepy.

  • SHIT SHIT SHIT. I remember that creepy ass PBS one like it was yesterday!

  • Viacom? Oh God, that IS scary.
