At about the 4 minute mark you say Sayid goes into Matrix mode when Dogen says the scale speech and that Sayid gets a pipe for the Pipe. But actually Dogen struck first taking Sayid down and Sayid just fights back. And it is Dogen that gets the pipe during the fight. Sayid grabs something that looks like a broom. It probably is a broom.

Dogen says that there is a scale with good on one side and evil on the other and that Sayid's tipped the wrong way. Sayid's scale could have tipped the evil way or the good way. Dogen doesn't say which way it really tipped. Just that it was the wrong way.
