  • Dude, I live and work in Naples, FL as a certified general contractor specilizing in hardwood stair's. This is B.S.

  • @FLGeneral Not really. With all due respect, there are a zillion ways to tackle a room. There's no single approach to finishing specs and materials. It's good for homeowners to put emphasis on the materials that really show, like decorative hardware and good flooring. If the molding and trims are unpainted and the room is empty, then honing to the usual isn't a bad thing. But decorating a room requires all the elements in the room to harmonize versus a "look at these moldings!" emphasis.

  • I love how that looks. How exactly do you create the fake crown moulding look?

  • Very nice!

  • Dude you are one meticulous son of a gun....

  • All you're missing is a Springbokke Flag hanging on the wall!

  • I love your molding, can you be more specific on the exact casing that you used? is it just one piece?

  • Fabulous room, love the valances in the room, where were they purchased if you do not mind me asking? Thank you for a lovely review!

  • Well, thank YOU for your kind words! The valance is really NOT a valance, and that's another tricky tip. It's a soft fabric balloon shade and it's gathered in only 2 lines on either side of the drapery panel. When the panel is pulled up to the top, it looks like a valance, but when it's lowered, it's a flat drapery panel. Irwin selected the fabric, had it interlined for more solidity and light blockage, and then had the shades fabricated at a NYC drapery work room (custom made).

  • Thanks for the ideas. My room is the same color, and I also have 8' ceilings that would benefit from this effect. Love the built-in's too. Lovely room!

  • Thanks for watching and your kind comments! The color is so nice and warm, and the ceiling molding tip is something we've used a lot. The built-in's are interesting -- there used to be a big fireplace stack there that stuck out into the dining room and the nearby living room. We demolished the stack and it made room for everything. (We used the rubble from the old chimney to build up areas in the yard which we added fill to and grassed over. Recycling!

  • Fire Hazard???

  • Thanks for watching. You're probably referring to the wood baseboard piece made to look like the rest of the metal baseboard. The electric heat elements in the room don't reach the end; they actually stop short of the part that's wood, so there is nothing "hot" behind the piece. The venting at the end actually helps to release any warm air that may reach the end.

  • Good idea with the fake crown...
