I think this would be sort of unfair of a comparison, 1: Diablo 3 haven't been released yet, thus not really fair to compare it to a released game. 2: Torchlight 2 is also not released yet, which makes me think, "shouldn't you compare Diablo 3 VS Torchlight 2 if you want to compare the series?" 'Cause I am very pumped for T2, and would love to see a comparison video of the two :)
@erugethewize The reason he compared TL1 though is because someone modded a map to be like the D3 gameplay trailer shown here. Since TL2 isn't out yet it isn't possible to make a mod that looks like the D3 gameplay trailer.
But yes, I agree that in general I would rather compare D3 to TL2, just not for this video.
Diablo made me feel almost helpless in an evil world where torchlight made me feel like a god. However that's how both games were designed. Torchlight is Diablo, just lighter and happier. Love them both.

As for other part of it, i hate to break it to you but 1k dollar comp aint mainstream. A lot of people still stay in 8800/9800 era of GPU. Read some threads on forums about ppl PCs and you'll see yourself that only a handful of ppl got anything like 460+/6850+. Even fewer GTX560/570/580

@CerebralHunter In diablo3 they put a auto stats,level 60 level cap,fury for monk whitch is basically rage in wow, they killed the usefulness of potions,they made drops so only you see the items and your partner see's different items, they got rid of dueling now its arena. Its not hard to see why some diablo fans will probably like torch light 2,obviously diablo 3 will be better because it has more money for details and systems, but its only 60 percent diablo,and its 40 percent world of warcraft

@DaFleegsta Didnt say that because I was comparing to torch light 2 and they said they are probably doing that too. They also made diablo 3 alot less dark and gothic, and added a character that has glowly eyes and look like a warcraft character. Diablo 3 will probably kick ass, but it wont kick ass as much if they were following how diablo is suppose to be. And I meant diablo 3 will be better because it has a budget 60x of torch light and dedicated bnet server with a 1% chance of hackers.

The only "drawback" of Torchlight is the models, especially those of the heroes. It they weren't so cartoony maybe that might attract more of the players who preferre realistic models. Anyway Torchlight 2 will be awesome, multi+moddability, + 4 new classes, + new pets + new content + a FREE MMORPG after Torchlight 2. If the mmo will have a little more better models than WOW it's going to kick ASS!

If you're going with "based on" you can't forget that the team working on Torchlight 1 and 2 is largely composed by the people who worked on Diablo 2 and that the ARPG genre is a popular one. A better comparison would be Torchlight 2 to diablo 3 since both will likely come out at about the same time. Both games will likely be great given the talent of the developers, but only time will tell which I will prefer. It's really funny how the ever present internet experts make statements like "this game which hasn't even come out yet is infinately better than this other game I have never even played."

I actually like Torchlight better in that it's more family-friendly. It doesn't have the demonic images that Diablo has. It's more light-hearted. But just the right amount. I have no problem playing Torchlight with my 9 year-old daughter. Diablo, not so much. Diablo is a much darker game.

@fromage2323 I think you need to take a good long look at the gaming industry if you think that these guys didn't do anything unique, firstly they updated the graphics and made the prettiest released dungeon crawler that had been released, they cartooned it so that diablo's harsh dark style wasn't going to remove children from the picture. To say that they didn't do anything new in terms of style is stupid because Clearly Halo stole from every shooter before it, yet its still unique. As is this.

i love both! that being said, i think the placement of the "mana" & "health" orbs (or whatever you call them) is a little bit better in the middle, like on torchlight. i still like diablo's, but i feel like having them in a central place helps me focus on them quickly at a glance.

Torchlights story is just not as good and they just used it as an excuse to make a game with isometric graphics and gameplay stolen from the diablo series, the only new feature is you have a pet which can sell items lol. They could at least make it more original so thats why I say it is a rip off.
Diablo 3 seems a lot better but Torchlight has a lot of cool features. I think blizz would have the desire to steal the idea of a pet for carrying and selling items. One thing that i don't like about torchlight is that there just 3 classes , i expect when the mmo come out it would be 2 or 3 more (And Select de Sex and some other changes).
Torchlight is great for the price. I got two classes up to 70 something, but then it was just enough and the game was just over. There are only a few dungeon types. And presently you have been there done that just once too often. D2 LoD I still play, even with a lot more hours in it.
D3 will be a very great game, I think. Hopefully it will remain always fresh like D2 LoD.
@bibbed87 No, this is a custom map someone made so that it would look just like D3. It can be downloaded through the TorchLeech application I believe, or from the Torchlight Mods unofficial website. I don't believe it's on the official forum. :P There's also a D3 HUD replacement so that the item/spell/health bar at the bottom in Torchlight is identical to D3's.

Such folks include the Schaefer brothers (Schaefer's Hammer, anyone?) and Matt Uelmen, the composer. The Torchlight footage seen here shows a community mod -- a dungeon replicating the one seen in the Diablo III gameplay trailer, also featured here. It's not an original Torchlight map.

@CerebralHunter In diablo3 they put a auto stats,level 60 level cap,fury for monk whitch is basically rage in wow, they killed the usefulness of potions,they made drops so only you see the items and your partner see's different items, they got rid of dueling now its arena. Its not hard to see why some diablo fans will probably like torch light 2,obviously diablo 3 will be better because it has more money for details and systems, but its only 60 percent diablo,and its 40 percent world of warcraft

@DaFleegsta Didnt say that because I was comparing to torch light 2 and they said they are probably doing that too. They also made diablo 3 alot less dark and gothic, and added a character that has glowly eyes and look like a warcraft character. Diablo 3 will probably kick ass, but it wont kick ass as much if they were following how diablo is suppose to be. And I meant diablo 3 will be better because it has a budget 60x of torch light and dedicated bnet server with a 1% chance of hackers.

The only "drawback" of Torchlight is the models, especially those of the heroes. It they weren't so cartoony maybe that might attract more of the players who preferre realistic models. Anyway Torchlight 2 will be awesome, multi+moddability, + 4 new classes, + new pets + new content + a FREE MMORPG after Torchlight 2. If the mmo will have a little more better models than WOW it's going to kick ASS!

If you're going with "based on" you can't forget that the team working on Torchlight 1 and 2 is largely composed by the people who worked on Diablo 2 and that the ARPG genre is a popular one. Diablo 3 is taking a huge hit because they're taking out LAN Play. I'm not saying Torchlight is better; I'm saying you're bashing a $5 game with plenty of value (and an improved sequel) in the most childish way possible.

A better comparison would be Torchlight 2 to diablo 3 since both will likely come out at about the same time. Both games will likely be great given the talent of the developers, but only time will tell which I will prefer. It's really funny how the ever present internet experts make statements like "this game which hasn't even come out yet is infinately better than this other game I have never even played."

I actually like Torchlight better in that it's more family-friendly. It doesn't have the demonic images that Diablo has. It's more light-hearted. But just the right amount. I have no problem playing Torchlight with my 9 year-old daughter. Diablo, not so much. Diablo is a much darker game.

Blizzard does release VERY polished and terrific games, but that does not mean that they have a good process. @fromage2323 I think you need to take a good long look at the gaming industry if you think that these guys didn't do anything unique, firstly they updated the graphics and made the prettiest released dungeon crawler that had been released, they cartooned it so that diablo's harsh dark style wasn't going to remove children from the picture. To say that they didn't do anything new in terms of style is stupid because Clearly Halo stole from every shooter before it, yet its still unique. As is this.

I don't think I could bare playing diablo 3 after this. D3's boss monsters actually look kinda cool but the rest of everything looks so terrible.
Whoever is responsible for the graphics choices should be removed from blizzard permanently and disgracefully.

i love both! that being said, i think the placement of the "mana" & "health" orbs (or whatever you call them) is a little bit better in the middle, like on torchlight. i still like diablo's, but i feel like having them in a central place helps me focus on them quickly at a glance.

Diablo 3 seems a lot better but Torchlight has a lot of cool features. I think blizz would have the desire to steal the idea of a pet for carrying and selling items. One thing that i don't like about torchlight is that there just 3 classes , i expect when the mmo come out it would be 2 or 3 more (And Select de Sex and some other changes).

Torchlight is great for the price. I got two classes up to 70 something, but then it was just enough and the game was just over. There are only a few dungeon types. And presently you have been there done that just once too often. D2 LoD I still play, even with a lot more hours in it.
D3 will be a very great game, I think. Hopefully it will remain always fresh like D2 LoD.

@bibbed87 No, this is a custom map someone made so that it would look just like D3. It can be downloaded through the TorchLeech application I believe, or from the Torchlight Mods unofficial website. I don't believe it's on the official forum. :P There's also a D3 HUD replacement so that the item/spell/health bar at the bottom in Torchlight is identical to D3's.

@bibbed87 For the uninformed neckbeards: Torchlight was made by pretty much every key member of Blizzard North, the former Blizzard subsidiary that developed Diablo I and II. Such folks include the Schaefer brothers (Schaefer's Hammer, anyone?) and Matt Uelmen, the composer. The Torchlight footage seen here shows a community mod -- a dungeon replicating the one seen in the Diablo III gameplay trailer, also featured here. It's not an original Torchlight map.

Other than that, Torchlight doesn't seem to be a competitor for D3 at all, just a pre-Diablo3 engine game. Something like a D3 Playable Preview, but if you dont like Torchlight you don't need to shit on Blizzard.
