I wish it was the movie here, the one they're trying to sell us, not the one it actually ends up being. There's a beautiful movie to be had somewhere deep down, it just misses its notes.

The whole point of the monologue in the trailer is that he has convinced himself that people are "sharks" and can live a solitary life, yet as the movie goes on, the world he has constructed for himself begins to disintegrate. After what happens with Alex, he swiftly runs back to his comfort zone, resigned to a single life.As for the people who get fired, they learn to value more than work

@cinemapsycho91 she portrayed her character on such level, that she was able to grab attention while standing next to Clooney. Her portrayal of her char was flawless and she was capable of several different emotional levels without leaving core of who she portrayed. I think thats impressive.

@Stalky24 I appreciate your analysis, but scene-stealing is just not enough to get NOMINATED FOR AN OSCAR. I still don't see how she stood out from every other actress from her generation to receive that kind of recognition. We've all seen that kind of character before. To be perfectly honest, Clooney ain't all that impressive either. Most people don't buy him when he's playing a character, as oppose to when he plays himself, which is what he did in this movie.

Deep down inside we know what a good story is, we recognize one when we see one. human beings make sense of the world through narrative naturally. Hollywood is flawed from square 1 because the ideas that turn into scripts just don't connect with people on that universal level ..american beauty, life as a house, scent of a women, dead poets society , up in the air ..these are films that touch on universal themes. study life!

The big picture is that getting FIRED is the secret BOMB that exists for all Americans who are trying to live the American dream:( get married, work hard, make money, be happy). The American dream has become a FRAUD
