how far below the mud line should the center match extend? I have an existing bulkhead. New pilings had been put in a few years ago but the center match boards are starting to fail. I dug out behind the bulkhead down to the water line at low tide which was about 6 ft down. I'm ready to buy the center match but I don't know how far down to go.
How far apart should the wales and the pilings be be? does it depend on the type of waves or force they will be hadling and on how tall the bulkhead is from the bottom of the lake bed to the top of the bulkhead?.. any info you can give will help as my mothers bulkhead is starting to fail and I was thinking of repairing or replacing it myself.
For attaching to the pilings, I would argue that bolts are a far better choice than either large nails or screws.
In a recent storm, I lost many of the nailed planks but every one of the bolted planks stayed put.

@robhalpin I agree. Bolts are a great idea if you want to go extra-strong.
