This Italy represented the team’s true arrival in modern day international football because they would build & win the World Cup four years later with the nuclease of this 1978 team. The Italians went through a tremendous stalemate from the late 1930s to the late 1970s or early 1980s when they recaptured what they lost. The other great team in this tournament was France who with a young Michel Platini too would go on & build a great team.
@GordonMorrice I don't agree with you regarding their midfield after all they did have Ardiles though pehraps the other two midfielders were nothing special
I'd never seen this 'til now, but I know all about the goal, and in fact could have described it perfectly: I read about it in a football magazine at the time where Menotti was quoted, "If you are to lose, perhaps it is better to lose to a great goal." This Italy were a great team. I remember a goal against England in qualifying, a flick on by the superbly skilful Causio leading to a cross and diving header by Bettega.
italia fue uno de los mejores ekipo s en este mundial, la confirmacion llegaria en el siguiente mundial.
