@FocusedLucidity Yep I was at that show at Liberty Lunch. I remember it being a very artsy noise type of show, much of the audience were getting frustrated and anxious for the band to play something from the 1st album or something heavy. THen all the sudden out of nowhere they bust out with this one, quite a shock it was. This was also when the band were still wearing masks.
this was recorded at the metro in chicago in 1995...i was standing right next to the guy he pointed to and said "u too motherfucker"this was the closer
Lady Gaga started playing music / piano when she was 4. Mike Patton started screaming in a death metal band when he was 15. Then, later, discovered he had perfect pitch. Who's the true artist now?
Actually, Yes. That was when I realized how fucking talented she was. There's no limit to what music you're allowed to like and there are no rules in music. Not all experimental music or jazz music (OR you name the genre) is great. Just as not all pop music is not bad, especially popular POP music. I'd say 99% of any given genre is crap and that leaves the remaining 1% for all the good stuff, maybe even great.
that doesn't even mean anything, I know guys that have been playing guitar since they were 6 and have taken lessons and they still play the same lame pop punk bullshit. I started playing bass when I was 15, I;ve never had a lesson in my life and I don't pay attention to genre because I'm influenced by a whole lot of different shit. Age has nothing to do with anything, it's all mindset and Lady Gaga doesn't have one.
@danzig5 I know exactly how I feel about everything. I'll appreciate whatever kind of music, artist, genre or mindset I care to. For Patton fans, you're all very close-minded.
you're telling me im close minded because I think Lady Gaga is a media whore who sounds like garbage ? You think Patton likes EVERYTHING that comes his way ? Ever see that video of him making fun of Wolfmother ? And Lady Gaga is WAYYYYYY worse then Wolfmother. For a Mike Patton fan, you're fucking retarded.
I like Mike Patton, and I go from listening to Led-Zeppelin, to Slipknot, to Beatles, to Tool, to Michael Jackson, to Morbid Angel, to Fleetwood Mac, to Slayer, to Johnny Cash, and so on. You were saying about Mike Patton fans and close-mindedness? >_>
@Uberado YOU CLOSE MINDED FREAK! WHERE IS THE WORLD MUSIC!? WHERE IS THE JAZZ?!? YOU DON'T LISTEN TO POP MUSIC... YOU LISTEN TO ROCK MUSIC, THROUGH AND THROUGH... EXPERIMENTAL MUSIC, POP COUNTRY, ALT-POLKA... MOTHER FUCK! WHERE ARE YOUR HIP HOP INFLUENCES?! WHERE IS YOUR GRINDCORE!? Sounds like you listen to "THE RADIO"...
Okay. First of all, the songs I stated were not only Rock, but Metal, Prog, Neo-Psychodelics, Dark Metal, Pop, Thrash, Folk, Folk Rock, and Country. Read more carefully next time.
Secondly, I like Jazz. It's a tad eradic at times, but is still a good genre of music. Especially Jazz Rock like Jeff Beck....
....Pop really isn't my style of music, however there are some exceptions. Fleetwood Mac has a few great Pop songs such as "Little Lies" and "Rhiannon". Michael Jackson is an amazing Pop artist. Also, Megadeth's album "Risk" is a Pop album (Don't believe me? Look it up) which is exceptionally well. Other than that, Pop- Especially Modern Pop, Bubblegum, and J-Pop- isn't really my style....
....Experimental is a very fun Genre of music. Quite a bit of Buckethead's work is experimental. I also, like Sunn-O))), and I wouldn't be listening to Mr. Bungle if I didn't like Experimental. Also, Scott Mishoe does phenomenal Experimental and Experimental Funk, so yeah....
....Country isn't THAT great. I like the more upbeat songs like "Save a Horse, Ride a Cowboy", and Johnny Cash has been great for me. That's pretty much it though....
.... Polka is not that good. I've tried several times to listen to it, and it's not my style. Sorry if I HAVE to like it to be open minded, but, just no.....
.....As for Hip Hop and Rap, I love Biggy Smalls, Bloodhound Gang, Eminem, and Public Enemy. Most other styles of that Genre I just listen to, but don't really account for the artists. As long as it's not that repetitive, over-technologized shit, then it's cool......
..... I was never introduced to Grindcore, but if it's anything like that Chelsea Walls Deathcore shit, or that Suicide Silence Mathcore shit, then I really don't think I want to hear it.....
.....I listen to a little bit of everything for the most part. Just because I didn't use that many genres in my example doesn't mean I'm close minded. Lastly, don't get so pissed off about what someone you don't even know says over the Interwebs. Read Rule #20...
Agreed... Except for Disco. Despite it not being one of my favorite genres, pretty much every Disco song (Well, that I've heard at least...) was pretty damn "Groovy"! :D
@Uberado Grindcore is much weirder than that, deathcore is like, "almost radio friendly death metal." Grindcore is a whole different beast. IMO, less publicly listenable than straight Death Metal.
The best example is probably really really old Napalm Death.
@danzig5 I wasn't comparing her to Mike Patton. However, she is a true artist, with real talent. That's one thing both her and Mr. Patton have in common.
Labeling is the best way to describe something before you've even heard it, that's why we label music. a word as broad as metal can't simply define a band that jumps from one genre to the next. If you want to lump Kyuss, Burzum, Meshuggah and Tool all in the same category that's your retard decision. In fact why label anything let's just call music... music. Then we can lose all ease of trying to find music that we like. Also let's not call you a retarded asshole and just call you an asshole.
Yet all most people listen to is stupid shit like Linkin Park and Lady GaGa. That or they become ignorant elitists to one genre (ie. Classic Rock, Metal, Mainstream Music relative to a specific generation) No, the best way to find music is by looking back at the history of different bands and their influences to stray as far away from the mainstream as much as possible. I've never used labels to find music and have developed a palette for music that exceeds that of any personal friend of mine.
I found Mike Zorn and Naked City through a process of looking up Avant-Garde bands, coincidentally both of those and Mr.bungle are related to Mike Patton. I understand your plight and concern against Elitism but that is just Ignorance at best not a symptom of labeling. We will never be able to remove labels from music, it's how we've "evolved" as a bureaucratic society. I just happen to try and use that to my advantage.

Don't dis the GaGa, she's got a hell of a voice and writes her own music unlike many other generic pop artists, and I don't know how much of it you've actually listened to and gave a chance but its not exactly your normal pop music, every bit as strange as Peeping Tom, plus she's a Patton fan! really shows on her "Poker Face" performance on the Johnathon Ross show you can find here on youtube. But I'm sure you already know that and didn't just discard her prematurely and ignorantly.
While I think metal gets out of hand with it's sub genres (every band doesn't need it's own one I think like 5 main ones would do it) I do agree that Bungle isn't metal because most of the time they really aren't that metaly. They have a lot of punk and funk in their first album and a lot of jazz in their next two. Even if they didn't randomly insert carnival music or swing into their songs I still don't think that calling it Metal would be accurate.
Problem is, they do certain things that are "metally", that some bands that could be considered their contemporaries, don't do. Bands like Ween and They Might Be Giants don't have an ounce of metal, hardcore or extreme music in their blood, whereas Mr. Bungle cut their teeth on that type of music as very young and impressionable musicians. It shows in everything they do, from their punk rock ethics to the music they make. (They played death metal in high school for the ignorant).

keep your "GaGa" garbage out of here you flaming faggot.
She is nowhere close to Mike Patton.
and she'll never last as long, in about 4 years, she'll die of a drugoverdose or something or her music will just die..
I'm hoping for both because she isn't doing anything original for music, everything she's doing aka her voice and her image.. its all been done..
she's just a girl manson.
yeah, she's talented, but she could be doing GOOD songs instead of shitty mainstream radio songs.
