  • that pedal board is a monster!

  • im the dog.

  • that drummer is now a math teacher. think about that for a second.

  • How does everyone in the world not worship this song?

  • What were you expecting, sepia tone and wide angled shots in slow motion?

  • DOG!

  • Horribly filmed, fire the camera man please.

  • the dog!!!!

  • Vince with a kick, a snare, hihat, and a ride: his natural habitat.

  • Love how the dog is just chilling and watching

  • That dog understands

  • if this was mic'ed and recorded properly this might be the best video on youtube

  • @poobumdickie1 Fuck that.

  • ijustwantthecameratostaystill!

  • fuck that nigga @combatwombat1995

  • Melos fans, don't worry about people that don't like this type of music. People say Tera Melos is complicated just for the sake of being complicated, or that there is no discernible melody or time signature or whatever. People said the same thing about Stravinsky, and ever since he came on the scene, music has never been the same. Same thing here... and to the haters, of course you're entitled to your own opinion. But so are we, and our opinion is that if you don't like it then fuck off. :)

  • This sounds like a group of mentally challenged people trying to play heavy metal.

  • @CombatWombat1995 lol i respect your screen name because thats a fantastic animation, but your opinion can go fuck itself

  • @1313silverscreen1313 Thanks, so can yours

  • crap!!

  • after they finish (9:22) they're all like "no big deal"

  • why the fuck is jason lee playin the drums\?

  • 46 people think double bass sounds cool.

  • I love tera melos but this video is just awful quality, they are all over the place in this one and it's hard to hear a lot of the particulars that really make them fantastic

  • this band makes me want to smoke acid. yes, smoke acid

  • This almost sounds like dillinger some parts.

  • wtf, why have I only discovered this band?

  • BUT SERIOUSLY!!! Do you see any microphones anywhere? stop complaining about how it sounds, it's probably the camera mic for fuck sakes.

  • SO MANY LIGHTNING BOLTS!

  • all my friends say this sucks...... Yeah, well i have no friends now (:

  • This drummer is so much better than their current one.

  • the dog is all like''get da fuk out of my house!''

  • I guess I'm small minded for thinking this sounds like shite? Maybe it's just over my head.

  • @TheUnclesidandthegay nope its shite. The people that like it are the ones that are convinced this is the new wave stuff and are also most likely high.

  • @Bunters196 Lol im straight edge and love this. The recording is poor, but they are a wicked band and do take alot of getting used to.

  • @TraceurOmega trust me i'm all for liking whatever you like.. but i just dont quite get this. It just contains chord progressions that clash and melodies that dont go with the chords. Maybe someday i'll look back on this and think damn why did i not like this? But not today :P

  • @Bunters196 See that's the kind of attitude I actually respect. Where you are being reasonable and stating why you don't like it. It is difficult to comprehend, but that's why I like it. It's challenging.

  • lolwtf a dog lol

  • didnt know that sam brown from wkuk played bass for them? shits so cash.

  • i play minecraft to this shit...its dope as fuck

  • i love how this slows down at 2:53, you have some shots of the tiny dog relaxing and then they blast it again and the dog is kinda blown away!!! hahaha2

  • this is a hipsters Spastic Ink.

  • i saw a comment referring to nick's guitar, i spoke to him over facebook he said its an sg-z. they all have the cool lightning bolt too. he uses some odd peavey guitar on the new record. it has like one pickup in the middle.

  • that guitar nick is useing is something like $1,200...i saw one one ebay

  • Who the fuck uses socks to masturbate?!

  • Props for the T-40 bass. :)

  • reminds me of hella...... without the powerful drumming

  • Motherfucker is making that much noise and playing those kinds of time signatures with a FOUR-PIECE KIT?! Kudos... kudos indeed.

  • i love you. iloveyouiloveyouiloveyouiloveyouandsoonandsoon

  • That dog saw the awesomeness and ran away.

  • this video never gets old

  • I love how everyone tries counting it out and counting when they play it, and there Nick is playing by feel. Kudos Nick

  • l don't get it and don't really like it, but l'm giving it a thumbs up because l can tell they're thinking this out and not just jamming. Plus l want to encourage indy musicians. I am 2:30 into it and still can't get it, but the best of luck to 'em.Indy fusion, l guess.

    :-) Thumbs up.

  • @davidbrucemusicvideo listen to the studio version, this guitar is kinda murky sounding and drowned out by the drums, plus the studio version kinda flows into the next two songs in the most beautiful and awesome way.

  • @potatomonkeyrap

Thanks, although I don't know where I'd find the studio version.

  • @potatomonkeyrap

Wait, l found the studio session. Thanks.

  • tech-grunge?

  • "we choreograph our headbangs" - tero melos

  • great!

  • the dog definetly cant deal with it

  • I'm surprised no one has made a comment about how much of a good taste in music the dog has.

  • i can't tell if i like tera melos... i mean, it looks like they could be awesome, but the sound in this video makes it sound like they're all just banging on their instruments.

  • @BobbySplax i'll admit, it does resonate a lot, but i can still hear their amazing abilities.

  • @BobbySplax just give the cd recordings a listen, they are mind blowing.

  • there time signatures are so complex, you have to be a true musician to understand. not for the average listener.

  • these guys play so complex.

  • I miss Vince.

  • Math Rock can't get any better then this..

  • sounds like shit taking a shit

  • FOR FANS OF INTSRUMENTAL MUSIC! PLEASE CHECK OUT OUR PAGE! OUR NAME IS VASUDEVA (vah-soo-de-vah) WE ARE FROM THE EAST COAST OF THE U.S. LET US KNOW WHAT YOU THINK!!!

  • Their practices must be like," K guys, I came up with a new song, its in 27/8, no direct key, bunch of free sections for improv, here's the first verse..."

  • It actually sounds like they don't listen to each other as they play. Could be just the recording and that's why they sound so out of key and time with one another.

  • @lanternhead Uhhh, they're actually playing in key, and the time signature here is so swiftly-changing and complex that you can't even follow it, so I wouldn't say they're out of time- if you notice, when they switch from one part the next, the only actual indicator of a time signature that you can pick up on, they're perfectly synced with each other. Soo that's both your points out. The sound quality is awful here, but their playing isn't.

  • @waffles032 Not sure why they decided to record in a glass room with parallel walls all around. They're still awesome though. Use to catch their shows at the local community center about 6 or 7 years ago.

  • @lanternhead The quality of this video here (and the mixing--I can barely hear the guitar over the drums) suck balls, but I'm afraid you're gravely mistaken. I can tell you for a fact, they're in the key E major for the duration of the song. And I'm still working out the time signatures, but after they play Ambassadors of All That Is Good the intro is in straight 4/4 (though the accent is on beat 4 in measure five, making it seem like a bar of 3/4, but they make up for the lost beat at the end

  • @lanternhead (cont.) of the intro). The break after the intro at :43 can also be counted in 4. The next section where Nick taps is a bar of 6/4, then a bar of 7/4. Then it's two bars of 13/8, then I believe a bar of 15/8, though I'm only 90% positive, then afterwards is two bars of 4/4. Then the next section is all 4/4, though heavily syncopated. Then from 1:18 to 1:26 is heavily syncopated 4/4 as well. Then at 1:26 starts the section where they'll do three bars of 4/4 and then a bar of 5/4.

  • @lanternhead And that repeats until 1:49, where it's just 3 bars of 4/4. It's really not that complicated, all you have to do is have a second grade education so you know how to count.

  • @kewl2006 You haven't taken melody, progressions or key into account. Of course anyone can count up to 15 and vary the patterns in repetition...it doesn't make you talented just because you can change time signatures and play syncopated sections...it's making them sound good that's talented. The beatles used use alternative time signatures in parts of songs, Im all for that but the difference with the beatles is that they made them sound good.

  • @lanternhead

Yep, and I think this sounds damn good.

  • @lanternhead i think your looking to hard into it. just let sound be sound. these guys paint with alot of colour.

  • @lanternhead "sounding good" is a vague and incredibly subjective term. And yes, I have; I mentioned previously that it's in the key of E Major for the duration of the entire song. And there is a melody, though trying to describe it without notation would be pointless. And the progression is IV-I-IV-I-IV-I-IV-V-I-iii-I-iii-IV-I ; the next section is then IV-V-vi-IV-V-I-vi-N6/V-IV-V-vi-IV-V-vi-N6/V-IV-V-vi-I-vi-N6/V-I-vi-N6/V-I-vi-N6/V-I. That's the progression from :30-1:53. Which if you think

  • @lanternhead (cont.) about it, there's nothing overly complex about the progression at all. the only bit of intricacy in the progression is the occasional neapolitan of V they throw in there (which, in the key of E major, is Cnatural major) something you and many others fail to realize is that there are in fact people with different tastes in music. you'll encounter that your whole life. had you said something like "I don't like this music," that'd be well and good. but saying things like there

  • @lanternhead (cont. again) is no meter, progression, or key is absolutely absurd. this isn't that complicated honestly. if you have trouble with this, then people like stonberg, webern, stravinsky, etc would melt your brain. and stravinsky was hands down THE most influential composer of the 20th century. but i digress... i love tera melos. they are a kick ass band. and I also love the beatles. and it's OK that you don't like it and i respect that. but think before you speak.

  • @kewl2006 *schönberg, excuse me.

  • @kewl2006 you are the greatest man on the internet. rites of spring melts my brain (us poor horn players!) and tera melos rocks my socks. hats off to you for your genuine knowledge of music theory and your desire to go out of your way to prove that this is, in fact, exceptionally musical stuff!

  • These guys are far better than anyone realizes.

  • sounds like spaghetti

  • @orkmage well you sure do suck their meatballs

  • If I try to describe Tera Melos in one word, its messy

  • @Ivhobbs23vI you just dont understand. god bless your weak ear <3

  • @MichaelEdwardCurtin I try to understand it but some of the things they do are so complex I can't make sense of it all

  • Honestly, the crazy noises is what I love most about this band. Alot of people have ways of getting out problems by making music. For some people its writing a sad song, for some its making a heavy metal song, these guys (and alot others) like to make noise. But these guys are smart about making noise, they keep it in time, and try to give it a melody that people can connect with. That is one of the reasons why I connect with them and love their music. Some people dont connect like thisbutohwell

  • Tera Melos is the Jam!

  • Is this an old drummer?

  • @ainsleywalker yeah, this is their original drummer, Vince. miss that dude

  • I'm an up and coming hip hop artist by the name of 'Twolypz' I love tera melos, and if you like tera melos I highly reccomend checking out 'Maps & Atlases' if you haven't already. Come to my channel and check out my rap over a maps & atlases instrumental. Enjoiiii

  • They've really come along way with this song! So much cleaner and it sounds like a legit song compared to older recordings of them playing it live!

  • it's legend around these parts that if you put an acid tab up to your ear, you can hear tera melos playing this song.

  • @yousurnaym without taking it? jesus, you guys must have some pretty concentrated acid to where you only have to put it to your ear to experience audial hallucinations

  • why do people keep calling this "math rock"? that is dumb. just listen to it. stop trying to make it fit into an arbitrary, preexisting genre. it just is what it is. i understand why a lot of people dont like this. its weird, obviously. but art can be weird. anybody who thinks they can define absolutely what art is or is not is a fool. art and music exist as a way to express emotion that is beyond language.

also, tera melos would kick you in the face if you called them math rock

  • IMATROLLTROLLTROLLOLOLOLOLOLTERAMELOSSUCKSYEAHTOTALLY. jk i love this band to death.

  • "Make MUSIC, not what this is." This is a sad comment. Music is art. It is subjective. If you don't like it, don't listen to it. Just like avoiding bad tv shows and silly movies, all you have to do is sidestep what you don't like. Don't criticize it because you can't listen to it. Genres exist for a reason.

  • Go ahead and call me ignorant, but I just couldn't tell when the music started. I can say all 3 of these guys are obviously good musicians. But for 3:34+ minutes this sounds more like some people building a house... a lot of superflous noise that never seemed to coalesce into anything resembling real music, more like a bunch of guys doing their own thing, warming up for the REAL show, which is to come later. I mean, even the dog during this entire performance seems utterly distressed.

  • note: I admit unfamiliarity w/ their music; this being the only piece I've heard.. unless this is the same 40 Rods my brother, God rest him, recommended I give a listen to. My comment is specific only to this piece! To my thinking, the drums drown out the guitar/bass making the offering cacaphonous. Though there are a few delectable moments of music interspersed throughout this, they are not enough to listen to this twice. I'll go hear their other stuff; they may redeem themselves yet.

  • @enilegnave21 And, of course we know dogs are the best judge of music.

  • @enilegnave21 I had this same issue when i first heard this.. mainly 'cos i think the guitar's a bit too quiet/drum's are too loud however that was before i had heard the studio version of this EPIC piece of art. Now i can fully appreciate this video! I thoroughly suggest you do the same

  • Tera Melos is good music.

  • the way i see tera melos is that they are a very complicated band, hard to understand, and what people dont understand they fear, thats why jasonthedrummer doesnt like them: hes not ready for them yet, he doesent understand how intricate all of there songs are all he hears when he listens to them is random bursts of sound that sounds terrible, and ill be honest when i first heard them thats what i heard, but i kept listening, and soon i was able to apreciate math rock, i hope jason will soon to

  • @whilwheaton If you only knew how much i love math rock. I listen to quite of bit of it. I'm a huge fan.

  • @jasonthedrummer math rock/ jazz/ experimental/ punk, there a melting pot of so many styles

  • @wannatalkaboutnick I just checked out 'everend', thinking they were a better band than Melos, as you claimed, and turns out they are just kids dressed up like Justin Bieber playing ultra predictable rock riffs. I would rather listen to Miley Cyrus fart the rhythm to achy breaky heart while taking a bong rip than listen to that sorry pseudo suburban rock pollution. Tell those kids to eat some LSD immediately before it is too late for them.

  • I thought it was shiat

  • i wish this was properly recorded; all i can hear are the drums and barely any guitar or bass. and it all just sounds like it was recorded with one mic at 10 feet away from everything.

  • TM just isn't the same since vince left

  • ...noise, mainly due to the drums being too loud. why does this sound not nearly as good as their recorded version on myspace?

  • Oh sorry it's barely music. My bad.

  • @jasonthedrummer I can't believe you are trying to develop an argument into what music is, and what it isn't. You sound like a faggy wine taster. And to hear you say that Melos has missed the point of music because they play for musicians, well, do you like to smell your own farts too? I checked out your drumming vids and I guess it's no surprise that your definition of music as you play it is predictable and yawning. Music is created from the infinite universe, not from inside a box, jason

  • @doggysti3s So the guy who listens to music that represents a much bigger demographic is the wine connoisseur and the guy who listen to really bad music that most people hate represents a casual drinker? My drumming style is very straight forward i agree but that doesn't mean i don't like other styles of music. Music is meant to invoke emotion not "Yeah, watch me play this terrible riff." Music is about sound not ability.

  • @jasonthedrummer You obviously have made your mind up already that Melos is a band of flashiness with no sound, which is very far from the truth, but, besides the point that you are a pretentious musical snob. You proclaim yourself as "the guy who listens to music that represents a bigger demographic". If those aren't the words of a soulless, marketing, musical snob, then I don't know what is. And, you say music is "not about ability"? I say, eat some lsd, and get over yourself, bro snob.

  • @doggysti3s You totally didn't get my question if you think i'm a "snob." You think that you have some higher understanding of this music because you almost definitely are a musician and because i'm not a good drummer i will never understand. "Soulless, Marketing..." You can't be serious. A good portion of the bands i listen to the most will NEVER be on top 40 radio.@whilweaton This Town Needs Guns, Minus The Bear(My Favorite), Six Gallery, Maps & Atlases, Rooftops, American Football.

  • @jasonthedrummer The way I KNOW that you are an ignorant bro snob is because you are expressing a superior musical taste. "Make MUSIC. Not whatever this is." Those are snob words. "You think that you have some higher understanding of this music because you almost definitely are a musician and because i'm not a good drummer i will never understand. " Does this sentence make sense? The truth is- you don't understand their melody/ time sigs, and you claim that there is none to keep afloat your ego.

  • Comment removed

  • @doggysti3s 1.This is reaaaally bad music so yeah your music taste pretty much sucks. 2. Read the sentence again. 3. I "don't understand" ??? You just proved me right about the sentence you can't "understand." Haha!

  • @jasonthedrummer jason the bro snob drummer "listens to music that represents a bigger demographic." If you fart in a glass, he will smell it for you and tell you if it has talent or not.

  • @jasonthedrummer "You think your shit don't stink. But guess what? It does. And it smells like shit,"

  • @jasonthedrummer and apparently Jason the bro snob drummer will smell your shit, too. He is a real connoisseur

  • @jasonthedrummer i will have you know, sir, tera melos does invoke emotion with me, different people experiance different things with music, btw, whats your favorite math rock band?, my 2nd favorite is this town needs guns

  • I can understand how someone watching this could think it's trash if they've never heard tera melos before. This video doesn't really do their sound justice, even for a pro shot. They sound much better on their albums and live in person than on live videos.

  • some pants that guitarist has got

  • ive smoked weed with the drummer

  • Hints of Weezer.

  • @TheMRoosevelt Hints of Katy Perry

  • jesus that pedal board is bigger than the guitarist...

do you really need all those effects...

  • @meatwadXcore when you want to play more than just plain old guitar yes.

  • @tokyorose999 there is no such thing as plain old guitar if you're a good enough musician. you can create worlds of sound without extra effects or pedals

  • @meatwadXcore but when you want to do something different and are EXTREMELY good like these guys you move on to pedals to make "worlds of sound" with them also so what are you even saying dude yes the pedals are necessary

  • I'm seeing them in Atlanta! Let me know how it goes, it'll be my first time seeing Maps & Atlases. I'm stoked.

  • Thanks dude. No worries. The irony is i'm going to see these guys play tomorrow night. I'm a big fan of Maps & Atlases who is headlining the show.

  • Well at least you know they're all really good.

I take it back, you're not a douche after all.

My bad dawggg, I just get worked up over people talking bout the band that made me wanna shred in the first place.

  • Haha. Yes you can, but in this case maybe it should be called an instructional video rather than "awesome" music. These guy are on stage practically saying "Look how good I am. Hear me roar."

    ...Bag?

  • @jasonthedrummer Thats the way they exspress themselfs and if you dont like it then dont listen to it..but yet your probabaly jerking yourself off while trying to piss everyone off about they're music preferance. Also you might want to get your ears checked out because there is melody and a a constant time signiture in this song, only its in short peices. You should just keep listening to your butt-rock.

  • Comment removed

  • Last time I checked you can write music for whoever the fuck you want.

    Douche

  • This is a classic case where what's going on does not sound good and the only people who enjoy it are gawking musicians. Seriously, I mean they are just fucking wailing out there. No melody, no coherent time signature or anything for that matter.. If you are writing music for musicians then you have missed the point.

  • @jasonthedrummer

first problem with your statement: everyone is a musician. you're talking about music to impress musicians, or maybe music that you think satisfies a persons ego as this is a typical complaint about music that seems to focus on skill. i for one like the sound of what's going on, but i listen to a lot of experimental music and i've learned to appreciate it. maybe that is because i am a musician, but it's not as if it's not possible to appreciate this without skill or as music

  • @sshhrriinnee "maybe that is because i am a musician" - Exactly. Nothing else to appreciate.

And for those who say they sound any different live.....I saw them about two weeks ago and i absolutely haaaated it. I saw that they were technically pulling off some really cool things but it sounded terrible. Make MUSIC. Not whatever this is.

  • @jasonthedrummer

    News flash, this IS music.

  • @jasonthedrummer music isn't defined by melody. texture is part of it too. and i know plenty of non musicians who enjoy this stuff

  • @sshhrriinnee actually nevermind i hadn't seen this in a while and it'stoo chaotic

  • @jasonthedrummer dude you really enjoy crying about stuff.

  • loove these guys !! technically sound and rediculous at the same time.

  • If Stravinsky had electric instruments.......

  • they're cool but, might as well just spend that time listening to the mars volta tbh :P

  • @alphaguitar2 haha i kinda have to agree. mars volta=fucking awesome. tera melos=awesome

  • i see tera melos as a band who is complicated just for the sake of it. with no structure it doesnt sound like a song you would follow, or ever listen to.

  • i dont see how it would be physical possible to hate this band. this band is soo technical and soothing (to me) its amazing. i love tera melos

  • can anyone please tell me what pedal or just what kind of effect he hits around 1:38?

  • @mushroomcloud46 delay/reverb

  • @mushroomcloud46 It's most likely a digital reverb.

  • The musicianship of this band is amazing.

  • Technically awesome!! This band is way better instrumental.

  • 1:45.... the dog is so freaked out.

  • I can see why someone wouldn't like this band. It takes a musician or something with patience to give this music a chance. It's amazing and well thought

  • this song actually has a key and time signature. just not so easy to pick out

  • Catch vince on tour with Marnie Stern!

    Fuck yeah

  • 2 drums 2 cymbals

How real men play the drums.

  • @steveo565 two sticks too! ;D

  • @steveo565 not really.......

  • @steveo565 lol I don't know about that. I've seen quite a few of them play with more.

  • That's a sexy bass, what is it?

  • @WeekendWarrior126 Peavey T-40

  • Unlucky Dog :PP

  • A co-ordinated use of musical chaos makes for unique audial magic.....

    Yes, that does make sense.

  • lol, the dog at 1:44 is going like wth is happenin.

  • Ugh, I'm not liking the crackhead cameraman. The music is amazing. Yr camera doesn't need to be part of the piece.
