  • The U sound - it sounded like you said "stedying" instead of "studying". But you make the sound in English (Eng-u-lish). You change notes a lot. American women may do that, but men tend to speak in a monotone, unless they're saying something exciting. The word "really" is hard because it has R & L both. You pronounce they same words differently each time you say them when you get to the vowels.

You don't sound British or American, but other than "really", you're easy to understand.

  • You are doing a pretty good job, but honestly if an american didn't realize you had an accent, then they would probably think you are gay by the way you are talking. just a heads up. Goodluck!

  • Your really good!

  • Ur preaty good

  • I think it is very good! I would just say that there is still remnants of a Japanese ascent, especially in the way you pronounce your 'R's and 'L's, it is quite rounded where as in English the 'R's are quite hard. I think that is the only point I can make, you are a very good English speaker. I think that if you were to go to an English speaking country you would pick up the accent quickly so don't worry too much about it. ^_^ 頑張って!

  • WHen you speak you have to sound out every part of the word, very harshly too. Americans have harsh accents. like when you say "accent" it's pronounced like "ak-sentttt." You have to emphasize every part of of the word. "worrrr-d." "ever-ry." "speee-k." "Yoo-ni-verrr-city =University." "Een-glish." The "I is harsh.

  • 1-10 you get7.23

  • its good man! you kinda sounded a bit like Napoleon Dynomite though

  • your accent is pretty good, but you're slightly too nasal when speaking :)

  • I'm American and you sound pretty good haha おりがとございます。

    おやすみなさい。(^O^☆♪

  • You have a strong accent, but your command of the language is EXTREMELY good!

You sound like a gifted Japanese student who studied with American (not British) teachers,

I've aced every English and grammar class I've ever taken so I know I'm not a complete imbecile when it comes to language.

But I've tried extremely hard over the years to learn other languages but I just can't get the hang of it. I think people's brains have to "be wired" a certain way to be multilingual

  • Try LISTENING to the video and imagine you hadn't seen it.

  • I grew up between Milwaukee and Chicago, and worked for two Japanese companies. Somehow, you really do sound like the exchange student who visited from the Netherlands :)

I wonder what someone from the Netherlands would think you sound like...

  • sounds alright.

  • Comment removed

  • make more videoooooos cos i wanna learn japanes from yuu =]

also yuu english is veeery good like i have no trouble understanding yuu at all

  • I agree with the other comments. You can tell you're native language is Japanese, but the accent isn't as strong as many that I've heard. In all, you're doing good. Nothing was hard to understand. :)

  • Your Japanese accent is still there but you definitely do sound more american when you speak in english not british.

  • Your accent is very good. Sometimes you slip into Japanese accent, but I can understand your English and that's what counts. :)

  • you definitely sound Asian. if you want to improve your American accent try not annunciating your consonants as much and slurring your words together a little bit

  • You sound very good. I'm an American and you sound more American to me than British. You still have a slight accent of course, but no one would have any trouble understanding you and also may I just say how awesome I think you are. There is no way I could speak your language. I really have to hand it to you. Good job !

  • dude you sound orient talking through your nose

  • Don't worry about the accent, as long as ppl understand you and you understand them. And btw, no matter how terrible the Japanese accent when speaking English, didn't Japanese ppl still able to conquer half of the Asia using their Japanese accent? XDD

  • You sound like a typical nip.

  • You have a Japanese accent, but I like it. Don't change who you are.

  • ほんまダサい!

  • I think you're trying a little to hard. You talk through your nose a lot. I can definitely hear your real accent coming through. Just keep working on it and it'll be great.

  • Its pretty good, you say a few things weird but its okay, good job keep it up!!

  • It's clear to me! I can still hear something~, but it is good.

  • This is kind of like a less extreme version of Dexter from Dexter's Laboratory. You pronounce certain words almost the exact same.

  • yeah I was thinking dutch or something too... here and there a little japanese but that was mostly after you demonstrated the japanese accent. doesn't really sound american or british to me (i'm american). the way you say pronunciation is really cute though :P

  • I am an american and I think your english is very good. You have a slight japanese accent but honestly......you sound fine, no problem understanding you at all

  • I am also a foreigner, but I'm 21, speaking English since I was 9. I think you have a very clear pronounciation, although it's normal for a native japanese speaker that some sounds can't be pronounced properly because they doesn't exist in your alphabet - like TH on "three". I also noticed that you don't pronouce 'U's after 'D's, like most japanese people do, like "secondo" instead of "second", congrats! Nevermind the accents, sounding clear it is all that matters. Keep up the good work! :-)

  • I thought you sounded real good, in speaking English.

  • Hes sounds passable, but he makes slightly strange pronunciation for words.

  • His English is good, but his pronunciation is not good...sorry

  • Good, Some kind of regional accent( Think JFK or Truman Capote) .

  • your english is pretty good. Your accent is mostly american but every now and then you throw in those typical japanese inflections, lol. But you are good, one of the best ive heard from japan actually.

  • Your english is pretty good, but you sound like.... a gay man.

i'm sorry! but you asked for evaluation.

  • @AgBrBeIeEnwood "gay" is not an accent. Grow up.

  • I notice that in Japanese, people tend to raise their voices at the end of each sentence. And you're doing that too. Normally in English a sentence starts higher in pitch and goes down at the end. Only raise your voice at the end of the sentence when it's a question.

  • i apply a school that seriously not teaching japanese language!!! i chose a school that teaches but i didnt get that school.waitin for the result and juz teaching myself japanese

  • Squee! You can totally tell that you're Japanese but your American accent is great! I noticed that when you said pronunciation, you say pro and stress the O a little more but I can understand you perfectly.

  • When I speak Japanese, I probably have a terrible accent! But it's such a beautiful language, I had to learn it! Unfortunately, they don't offer Japanese at my school, so I'm taking Chinese and teaching myself Japanese. So, my accent is probably really thick!

  • I think your American accent is nice! I'm learning Japanese at my high school, and my teacher is an immigrant from Japan, and her Japanese accent is alot stronger than yours. I'd suggest trying to round out each sound you make to create a credible American accent, and to make your r's more hard, the way Americans pronounce them. :)

  • American accents are... Deeper? I've never really paid too much attention to my accent, but i would describe it as very... Pitch-less?

  • Pretty darn good.

  • You. sound. AMAZING! I hear the Japanese, but you sound really good!

  • U sound like ur sick and you just fell of a cliff

  • Whenever someone tries an "American" accent, it always turns out to be something close to a New York City accent.

  • I speak English, Spanish and Chinese. You will always have a accent but you speak very good english

  • Your accent is okay, but the Japanese influence definately comes through. It is most noticable when you pronounce your 'R's, which I would imagine can be quite tricky coming from another language, seeing as the Americans and the English speak the same language and don't even pronounce it the same way.

  • I notice in Japanese sounds run together a bit and blur, tighten it up, we over pronounce things completely! Your word choice it pretty Japanese though

  • just pronounce your letters more clearly besides that you sound just fine. :)

  • Good job. Just take the time to slur all the letters in each word together and then separate each complete word by a short pause. (But I think other than that- you were great!)

  • The problem it seems like you have is you don't take every letter one step at a time. A sounds either a, or ah. Keep practicing how to say the letters and put them together.

  • Umm. only issue is your "r'' sounds and "oo" sounds. just pronounce those more. other than that good tho!

  • You do have a Japanese accent..but you speak english very well. Maybe you could try recording yourself talking to hear how you pronounce words and then just practive saying those words. Honestly I think you sound fine, english people speak very fluid like and I think you will get the flow of it with time. Im sure when english people speak Japanese they break up the words and arent so fluent..it just takes time I think. Keep up the good work...!

  • at 1:00 you sounded really good :) (honestly i think asians bad english is adorbable but then my mom gives me this look...well, you know, the look all asian moms get before they chase you around with spatulas and rolling pins...)

  • Moreover, try saying the name "Bev" and "Beverly" and the words "strength" and "something", my mother is Japanese and she finds these words difficult :) ganbare!

  • Your English is really fluent and you have good grammar. I think you need to enunciate your words a bit more. Try saying some words slower and copying the speech of a native speaker. For example, when you say "pronounce", you need to say the first 'N' a little more clearly (this is the case for some of your consonants in the middle of words). Also, you should practice saying 'th' in "whether" and "that", practice "th" on it's own and then use words containing 'th'.

  • Man, I love it, a Japanese English-speaking person that i can actually understand! Every single word! Just listen to a lot of music, and audio books! And tell them classmates to start using their teeth, lips and tongue more! I hate that so many of my Japanese friends are willing to learn English, but they just won`t stop putting a/i/u/e/o behind every consonant they utter! It just shows how lazy they are and that they don`t really wanna learn it!

    You are awesome! Keep up!

  • You sound like a mix of 4 different backgrounds, Irish, Polish, British, and Japanese, But technically the american accent is just English with your backgrounds heritage in my opinion.

  • Your accent sounds like a mixture of Japanese & British. The good thing is that your English was very easy to understand, you did a good job on that.I think that if you travel to America and speak to more American speakers then your accent will become less strong.I think you did a good job on speaking English though.I actually like your Japanese accent, lol.

  • you did pretty well, though you could work on where you stress certain syllables, like when you said "pronunciation" the way you stressed the syllables seemed a little off to me. Im not a really good English teacher but instead of pronouncing it like "proNUNciation" try to say it like "PROnunCIation", am i making sense? anyway i hope i could help :D

  • honestly, when youre trying to sound "american", it just sounds weird.. If you want to impress americans, use your Japanese accent when you speak english.. I see a lot of foreigners trying wayyy too hard to perfect thier american accent. all that matters is GRAMMAR! work on that instead of an american accent

  • You should try Eastern American Accent (Rhode Island or Mass) that is very difficult!

  • We have people with accents all over so as long as people can understand you clearly its fine.

  • Like the other posters have said, I can understand your perfectly. You speak English very well.

I can hear your Japanese accent, but you'll never be able to get rid of that 100%. I'm a native English speaker who learned to speak Spanish fluently when I was 24, and my Spanish friends have told me they can hear my English accent when I speak, too.

It's normal to have an accent when you learn a second language. I wouldn't worry about it too much if I were you.

  • it's a good american accent

  • How cute are you! I can understand you so your american accent is alright with me :)

  • Your accent definitely sounds American. :) I can still hear your Japanese accent coming through, but the way in which you're pronouncing your words is more similar to the American accent than any other English accent. Your English is great by the way! Keep up the great work!

  • the bigest thing as a American that i have with outer poeple is that they run there words to geather an dont take the time to think an space the words out an with a accent will tentd to hide that they r slurring there works/ aka running there words to geather an you are not doing that at all but that is what i think your talking about

    you are speeking great!

  • holy shit i can undertand u

  • if i came to japan i would not have trouble talk, a few things are off but you are very close

  • is very bad lol まだあなたの目標に到達するために千数十年の中で実践可能性が xD

  • Is it just me or does he sound like "uncle sam" from those nigahiga videos....but good job

  • it's much improved too most. your S's are the biggest part you can hear that is off. though i wonder how bad a yank accent is since JAPANESE have the same words mean different things with how it's said and emphasized.

  • Not bad you sound like someone who has been living here for awhile. Remind me of my friend Hiromu and how he sounds..

  • you sound nasally.. :D. but you do need to learn about making a sentence alittle short so you dont mess up the word order, and use the reasoning word first not second in a sentence.. from"english is very important, i think because ........ " to "i think english is important, becuase ..."

but very good...keep up that cool accent.

  • You sound like a Dutch boy that's been living in California for 10 years.

    Pretty good, though

  • You sound like my Brazilian neighbor and at the same time i hear the Japanese accent too, but you are doing a good job with your pronunciation, if you are trying to sound more american than try not to roll your "L"s and "R"s but i honestly think your accent is cool, it doesn't need to be altered since i understand you perfectly. Just don't try and change a lot at a time if you are trying to lose the accent, because your brain will have a hard time trying to remember all at once.

  • Work on the "L" Like heLLo....Otherwise don't worry about it. I understood you more than some of the people from the south I have talked to.

  • I love the way you say "pronunciation" :D

  • A couple things 1) don't lose your accent. 2) If you WANT to sound like most of the 'tards in the US don't pronounce... ignore your Ts and try not to draw out the R sound as much.

  • You sound Scandinavian in some parts almost.

  • try to open your throat more when you talk. it sounds weird but idk how els to explain it.we speak more "breathy"? uhh this is hard.

  • You're close, but you sound like a gay southerner, now I'm not insulting you, I'm just giving you my opinion, keep it up. Make another when you improve.

  • you have a little accent i can understand everything your saying though

  • You're accent is fine. I can understand you fine. You sound like someone who is speaking English as a 2nd language. There is NO shame in that. I worked for a Japanese company for 13 years and trust me, you're one of the best!!!

  • i got lost right at the very beginning.. lol..

  • Haha your really cute ;)

  • Pro-nun-cia-tion...not Pro-NOUN-cia-tion

  • i like japan :D

  • Actually if this helps, you sound a bit like you have a north british or scottish accent a bit.

  • hey guy u sound allmost like jet li if you only listen to yourself and dont look

  • to me your accent sounds very unique! it is a mix of asian and american western. you shouldn't worry so much though because boys with accents are always more attractive! lol!

  • We can understand you and its not complete English...your English is pretty good

  • you are still rolling your r's

  • You shouldn't worry about your accent that much, as far as I can tell, accents are permanent. That being said, three years? You sir, are a boss. Most Americans that have been through years of schooling speak in broken english or slang.

  • Your English is great in fact amazing for learning in only 3 years. I think your English accent is pretty good, accents take time, and surrounding yourself with native speakers is the best way to do it

  • I can definitely hear your Japanese native accent coming through, but that really does not matter so much because I can understand your English perfectly...clearly you are grasping the vocabulary and learning how to talk fluidly and that is most important....the more you speak it, the more natural it will come

  • I can understand you just fine, so I wouldn't really worry about it. My accent in Japanese is awful >_< If I can be understood, you're doing good ^ ^

  • relax the muscles in your neck and try to let air pass through your nose fluidly as you speak. In Japanese most words are formed without letting air escape the nose and are originate in the throat (like in french in a lot of ways), but English is a lot more breathy and most of the air you use comes from around the stomach. Note that these are just my observations about the languages so I might be wrong.

  • u have a canadian accent eh?

  • accent really doesn't matter

  • OH MY GOODNESS!!! This is a western accent! It is very interesting.

  • I find it very fascinating that what we (as native speakers of whatever language is spoken where we come from) take for granted the complexity of our own language. I speak English, obviously, and sometimes it seems (to me) to be a bit of a heathen language. Whereas Norwegian or Chinese sound very sophisticated and meaningful. It's interesting to know that other people find your own language fascinating.

As for your accent, I can easily understand you. English words are highly enunciated.

  • Wow..impressive for three years if this was not scripted. A lot better than my three years of Japanese accent, haha. Keep it up bro!

  • You sound like a mix between a Texan and a homosexual ;)

  • you sound to bro

  • you wanna speak like an american... just talk normal

  • You speak remarkably well and have great sense of conjugation. The only thing that I would critique is that it sounds like you are speaking through your nose during some parts of the video. Also, I appreciate your extra efforts in seeking advice and correcting yourself when you do happen to make a pronunciation mistake. :) Thanks for uploading and I hope this helps.

  • I understood what you said, though it is hard to differentiate between the japanese accent and the american accent. Good job though, I'm impressed that you decided to practice and learn English. If you were to stay in American for a year I'm sure you would pick up our accents easily.

  • You sound half way between

  • First off, props for learning and mastering English! I can still hear a slight Japanese accent in your speech. I think, over all, your accent sounds more American than British. Regardless, your speech is clear and easy to understand. You sound great!

  • soooo cute!!! :D your accent is really good so far. what ive noticed from learning other languages is other people tend to have trouble with the letter "r" but if you keep practicing it you will be a PRO! :D

  • pretty good work on your t's and rolling your R's more your getting there

  • You're accent is pretty good, just gotta work on those "l" and "r" sounds a bit, but I have to say I'm impressed. Keep up the work! :)

  • ..........hah

  • you are so adorable XD

  • IF YOU WERE BLOND, TALL, AND "round eyes", YOU'D BE NAPOLEON DYNAMITE!!!

    =D

  • Not too badです!

  • Hey you sound really good! Very American. You have a slight Japanese accent, but I'm really impressed. Your English is much better than my Japanese. lol.

To make the 'th' sound (like in thin or theater) put the tip of your tongue between your teeth and blow air out your mouth, making a lisp sound. For the 'l', the tip of your tongue goes behind your top teeth, against the roof. The sound should vibrate in your throat. Then quickly drop your tongue down toward the bottom teeth. Hope that helps.

  • No it sounds different but your pronunciation is pretty good ICANN understand u perfect

  • It sounds eastern European.

  • Wow this is pretty great. Maybe try lowering the tone of your voice, its a little high, but its not necessary. So ya great job!

  • u speak pretty good ev en though u japnese

  • It's pro nun see a shun. Uh mere uh cun. Jap ann ease.

  • Focus on your vowels and lay harder on your R's, and don't keep talking like you are asking a question all the time lol.

  • Not bad, you are understandable so that's a strong start. I think most non-english speakers just try to speak a little too fast. take your time and the words will roll off your tongue smooth and beautiful before you know it. My only criticism is you don't pronounce the "pro" part of "pronunciation" strong enough... but that's my opinion... I live in the north-eastern part of the US so tend to sound a little more British than other parts of the country...

    Keep up the good work!

  • You know, it doesn't matter if you have an accent. You do have a very deep Japanese accent, but I can understand you perfectly well. Of course, I am constantly around my parents and family who all have Filipino accents.

You are pronouncing the words in a different fluctuation than a native English speaker does, but it's fine. Speaking a language fluently means you can communicate in it as a native speaker would, not that you have to have perfect pronunciation.

  • your just not saying the words right. i work with a lot of asain people at my job n its like they put words in a sentence that dont belong in it or they dont say an important word. example: Andre come to my side of the desk.

Andre Come round. Like wtf is that

  • you don;t speak like british or american . you speak like a japan not japan american

  • Comment removed

  • If you spoke just a little slower in your natural accent you'd be perfectly clear. Your attempt to sound more American almost sounds like you're trying to make fun of the accent. You speak English very well you just need to slow down just a little bit.

  • the thing is, there are many american accents so idk if your in California or what but in Cali people talk pretty different from people in Texas or New York.

  • Your very good at english :) But the accent is a little off > w <

When you say 'something', you would pronounce it ( SUHM-THING ) not (SAMTHING) :D

  • I think it is difficult to define an american accent, when different parts talk differently. you newest videos sounds a little like from texas. this particular video was very easy to relate to. you sounded a little more like the midwestern accent. laid back, relaxed and smoother. We use more tones than other parts of the country.

  • Comment removed

  • ur accent is like british n american mixed

  • In America, foreign accents are extremely common. Some are very hard to understand. Yours is fine - don't worry about it!!

  • Your speak like an american. You'd easily have a good American accent with very little work . You should aim for that. you have an orient accent but it's not bad at all. I understand you very well, no problem. Usually with the more heavy orient accents there's a sort of mumbling and slow-ness that makes things confusing and I can't understand them even if they are speaking english. The best thing to do, watch a lot of American movies and you'll pick up on it pretty quickly.

  • Comment removed

  • it sounds like you have a cold...

  • If I heard it, I'd think you're a Japanese immigrant to America. It definitely sounds like it has an American influence. It doesn't sound British at all.

  • I have no idea how I stumbled on this video but you sound great!

  • If I heard someone speak with that accent I would be seriously confused. I wish I could help but I'm not familiar with the japanese accent enough to know how to make it sound American.

  • Listen bro, you speak English very well. I understood everything you said. Don't worry about trying to sound like an American. Yesterday, I spoke on the phone with a lady from Waynesville, Tennessee. I barely understood a word she said. I could have used you to interpret for me. Anyway, your English is fine. Just relax and go with it. From Florida, Peace.

  • It's definitely understandable. I know a few Japanese people at my college, and I'm frequently saying "huh?" because their accent stumps me. I think if you refer to a thesaurus, that would really help you out, for syllabary accents. Oh yeah, I'm also learning Japanese so I have a bit of an understanding as to why your accent is difficult to manipulate.

  • I mean, you have a foreign accent when you speak English..but it's not a horrible accent we can underdtand what you're saying :) trust me there are people with HORBBIEL accents and after they finish speaking your just like uumm... repeat that like 5 times for me lol.... but yea you don't have a native-born american accent..

  • Your accent is not exactly American, but it still sounds good and is very easy to understand. Your English is excellent! I am currently learning Russian so I know how hard it can be to imitate accents.

  • After watching all of your videos, I think you actually sound a little more Australian than American - especially when you say "I'm going to talk about..." They talk more in the back of the throat, and we are more in the front - but not all the way to the front like British do. It's kind of hard to explain in writing, and obviously much easier for native english speakers to differentiate, but the more round your vowels are the more Australian it gets. But for 4 yrs, your english is maji de good!

  • I've learned Japanese accent... although much easier than english... by watching movies, anime, podcast, songs, tv news, etc. and... Repeat what you hear a few times, trying to copy exactly like the person you heard say it. Once you come across a word or phrase in 3 or 4 different situations, you will start to remember it, understand it, and be able to use it practically.

  • I know that Japanese doesn't have stress and English does but when you try and add stress it tends to sound a bit off. At least it does at the end. Other than that you really shouldn't need anymore help. As everyone is saying, we can understand you. But, you will probably catch some jokes from the more pugnacious, ass hole Americans out there, just be honest. But.... yeah, you sound fine.

  • I am an American. Your enunciation is really good and I had no problem understanding you, but you still sound Japanese. Not in a bad way though. You just seemed very serious in clearly speaking our language, so I'm trying to help. I'm very good with English, and I'd help you any time. But honestly, you speak it very well. And what really matters is how well we can understand you. You've done an amazing job. Sugoi! <---Is that right? lol The comment below contains my corrections.

  • Problems:

You say sum-ding. We say sum-thing. The 'th' is important. Sum-th-ing. Something!

As for 'evaluate'. You say: e-valley-ate. We say: e-val-you-ate. Make sure you don't say e-vahl-you-ate.

    You say...? We say: four-word.

You say: A-mur-ican. We say: A-mare *like the word air* -i-can.

You say: pro-noun-ci-ation. We say: pro-nun-ci-ation.

  • @inuseb As an addition to this: you may want to practice distinguishing your L sounds from your R sounds.

  • I can understand you just fine but don't change your accent. It's cute!!

  • Your English intonation is VERY GOOD! If I close my eyes, you sound like my Nisei friends' parents who have lived in the States a long time, but for whom Japanese is their first language. You have a really nice way of using English, and you would make a lot of friends in the US if you came here!

  • The only comment I'd have is that, at least most folks I know here in the US, we say "pro-NUN-ci-ation" and not "pro-NOUN-ci-ation."

  • yeah you sound pretty good, but i can understand Japanese better than Indian but your use of words is pretty good to. Since English is the only language that has "fillers" like "the" most Japanese for get those also "a". Anyways you sound great!

  • not bad especialy since you've only been learning for 4 years!! but u can still hear you're Japanese in it

  • OH! I have Chinese friend and he talks just like you when he speaks in English. He is also a university student.

  • I'm sorry, but you sound like a robot or computer trying to talk in English with a American accent. Then again to me, you sound like a smart guy who would speak big vocabulary words.

  • @iiKitty03 Computers lack emotion when they speak yeah he stops evey now and then but if i had to translate words that quickly in my head then i would too but he does have emotion.
