You don't need to ask on all videos, but you can watch them! On purpose, today I've uploaded two more, and in one on them I'm using a Les paul with burstbuckers again.
@MultiScoffer. I disagree. I plugged an American Standard Strat into this amp and played some John Mayer on it. It sounded spot on. Im not sure if the amp was modded though.... I don't own it, I just played it at the store. I did crank it a lil bit to see how loud it gets and it stayed clean which is no harmonious with what others have said..

Wish it would have a standbye switch, I might get one installed one day. The stock bugera tubes that came with it are shit, they last about 6 months.

I would even say that this amp fits the style of vintage Cream "Sitting On Top Of The World" British type Blues for sure. Overall, a great amp for all genres of music except for Metal.
I wish that everybody did a demo like this. Thank you very much! This amp sounds good, especially when in the neck position. I must admit that this amp sounds better than the Fender Blues Deluxe Reissue. Good beefy bass sound.
@Bobby59 Hey Bobby! I would go with the Blackheart BH 100 Hot Head Tube amp for those classic tones. I can play all styles of music with this amp. Plus, you can switch to A then to AB ; full power to half power. The Peavey Classic 30 is good for Blues and some Jazz. With the BH 100, you can play everything (but Metal). Peace!
Are you using any pedals in this video? Or just the amp, Cause I got this amp but I cant get such a nice overdrive out of it. My guitar is epiphone les paul 1960 tribute with gibson 57 classic pickups.
These truly must be the best sounding amps out there regardless of the pricetag...
Gotta sell my ddri...
Is it too loud for normal band practice to get the clean channel to around break-up point ?
Played it like this in a local store, and sounded amazing.. the response of the amp is so natural and easy on the fingers, but still no flab or mud whatsoever.. Volume is just so hard to judge in the store..
Hi there, great vids! Would you say this amp or the blues junior for blues and classic rock type stuff (if I bought an overdrive pedal for the blues junior)
This amp is really good for the price, but you just have to love it unconditionally, and it will begin to love you back. The stock speaker sucks, and the stock preamp tubes are crap. I actually took the chassis out of the 112 cabinet and built it a head cab, and soldered the internal speaker taps to a 1/4 jack. I built it a mini-stack (a pair of 1x12's) with a G12T-75 and a seventy/80, and replaced the pre and power tubes with JJs, swapped a couple caps out, and now it's a vintage Marshall!
great review! finally somebody that gets what people want. just because the amp is typically clean doesnt mean people dont want to drive it! great video keep 'em coming!
@kickalion US made and designed bro---I dig em--I also dig Blues Jr's--hard call there but the new BJ's are made in Mexico--if that is a consideration for you.

Hi, can you tell me if this amp can stay clean at high volume (in a band mix)? We have a very loud drummer and I'm worried that I won't be able to keep up for numbers which require a loud clean sound. Thanks in advance for letting me know
Paulo, uso o C30 na noite sim. Ele tem bastante volume, mesmo. Eu costumo usar o amp sem microfonar em algumas casas menores, e microfonado quando o ambiente é maior ou em locais abertos. You can get just about any sound out of a Classic 30 can't ya? I guess if you want it heavier you can add a METAL pedal. I'm trying to decide on the classic 30 or a egnater renage head.
Do you have the boost switch on, or off here? You didn't mention that in your settings. I prefer the sound of my Classic 30 with the boost off. I wish they'd made the boost foot-switchable.
Thanks BluesZep. I don't care for the sound of the boost myself. Too midrangy for my taste, although if were footswitchable I might use it. Great videos BTW. Nice playing too.
@mrpetesix Really? You like the boost switch off? I have a Classic 30 too, but I like using the boost because makes it have such a deeper tone. I have noticed you can get more distortion out of the amp when you have the boost off though. Is this what you do?
@acuity67 I find the boost switch gives the amp a little too much of a midrange hump for my taste. I bought mine used off craigslist about this time last year. I wanted something small, but loud. An amp where I could show up at a gig, or rehearsal with just my guitar and my amp, no pedals. This amp was just what I was looking for. Sounds like a little Marshall to me...but you'll never a clean sound out of a Marshall like you can out of this amp. Fender clean, Marshall crunch.
@mrpetesix yeah I experimented with it today. I know what you're talking about with that midrange hump. I was almost surprised at how good that amp sounded without the boost. Just gotta turn it up a bit. I'm finding this amp keeps on proving to me that it's better than I expected. I just have to experiment with it to get the sounds I desire. Do you think I could make it sound like fuzz without a pedal?
@acuity67 If feel you're not getting enough fuzz, or overdrive out of the OD channel, you may not be setting it just right. With the OD channel engaged, start off with the PRE on 10 and the POST on 0. Turn the POST up until you have the volume you want and then dial back the PRE until you have the desired amount of OD. You should be able to get as much fuzz as you want out this amp. But you can always throw an OD pedal in front it to totally take it over the top. Good luck!
@mrpetesix oh I can get overdrive all right. I was just thinking what I would have to do as far as treble, middle, and bass. I'll do some experimenting. Thanks!
@acuity67 Sorry man! Didn't mean to insult your intelligence! You just never know how much someone knows. Actually, like I said, that Boosta Grande I have works really nice at pushing the preamp without changing the sound too much. I have TS9 too and that actually kind of adds a similar mid-boost as the boost switch does.
@acuity67 I also discovered that by setting the OD at a moderate level and then slamming it with my BBE Boosta Grande clean boost pedal sounds great too. Gives me a couple of different levels of OD gain without changing the overall sound of the amp like a TS9, TS808 would. Although, using another OD pedal in front of the drive channel can sound good as well.
Went to the music store yesterday to get a Peavey Windosr Halfstack and then i tried this and fell in love. I just had to get it instead. It is an awesome amp for classic rock, blues, folk, country, anything really! It 's awesome.
now, from what i understood when i got MY Classic 30,the power tubes peak at around 5 or 6,so it would sound totally different if you set the post at 6 and ran this same test..this little amp get a lot of gain with the power tubes fully saturated
the amp is very loud. But I can't tell you exactly, because small or medium are relative measures. If the drums don't need to be amplified, C30 is enough, it is louder than a very loud drummer hehe
@BluesZep yeah i was thinking the jj's or mesa boogie but heard very good things about the jj's....are the power tubes the EL84's?? also did you keep the stock preamp tubes ??
@thevans69 When I used this at a wedding my bass player had sig transistor-stack att 10 (out of 10) on a 300w head and I was around 3,5 (out of 12). If the drums are amplified, your guitar should also be so there's nothing to worry about! Get it!
As for blues, rock n' roll and punk you shouldn't have any problems. The only problem you might have is that you might need to crank up the volume quite a bit to get a sweet sound but it is there!
the stock pickups on a les paul standard 1998 supposed to be 490-498 not 57 classic unless you i have make it intalled! i know it cause i have 1998 les paul!
hi! nice playin and nice sound and if i would have a lespaul it would be honey burst like you're its very nice colour ! ,i have a question what the difference between burstbuster pickups and standard pickup? thank you!
Nice! I've got a Classic 30 and for gain I think it sounds better to crank the post right up and then add in the pre, and then add OD pedal(s) . Power tube saturation sounds much better than preamp gain IMHO.
On the clean channel, there is only the volume knob, called Normal. On the dirt channel, there is a knob that controls preamp gain, the Pre knob. Only the smaller preamp tubes are involved. It's good to crank the Pre and adjust the volume with the Post if you have to play at lower volume levels. At higher volume levels, the preamp gain cranked will sound fizzy and sterile. In this situation, it's better to crank the Post knob and turn down the Pre. The Post knob involves the power tubes
hey guy i have a question do you think its good i buy a marshall or line - 6 or peavey, i want it to play metallica arch enemy slayer pantera stuff like that
I wouldn't think so, acoustics don't sound great through electric amps. acoustic amps and PAs are the way to go if you just want to amplify your acoustic sound, bass amps EQ are closer to these so you could try some of those out too.
Yes it surely is. I use a Classic 30 live, choosing it over a Marshall JCM2000 which was already on the stage. The stagehands were really puzzled because it was so small (!) compared to the other amps. But afterwards he said "Good god, that little amp you got there sounds killer!" Gotta love that ;)
I was very impressed by this amp when I tried it out at a local shop. I think I'm going to pick one up. Do you find that it gets noisy with high pre and post gain?
in my poiion the floor pod plus is pretty much the best pedel and the tunner is verry acurate on it i just wanna gun a gibson lp into the pod and a zakk wylde or slash wah and and run that into a marshal jcm 800 half stack that would sound insane!!!
Definitely has a good classic rock sound... I tried the tweed version with a marshall 4x12 cab at guitar center and it rocked!! I used an LP standard with burstbuckers and an SG Standard with a 490 and 498T, they both sounded amazing with this head, I bet the tubes are very affordable too, just need to see how available they are... this thing can get LOUD if you want it to!
ive got bb's in 58 vos and sometimes i struggle to get a good tone out of them maybe its just my garbage marshall vsr30..sometimes they can sound great and others either too bright or too bassy.
Ok, the internal is 16ohms, and the amp says "minimum load 16ohms", but is the extension speaker jack in series or paralleled with the internal? In other words, what is the minimum impedance I can use when I plug a cab in to the ext. jack?
But yeah, this amp sounds lovely with my strat! It seems to respond well to my teles too, just enough gain, just enough harmonic content, tele heaven.. I am considering a swamp thang or a texas heat, or maybe a Jensen P12N, but I also may just call peavey and ask for a black widow! Seriously, the BWs are good, and very warm and dark, with a usable range of 50Hz - 3.5KHz which is real dark compared to a V30's range of 70Hz - 5KHz. It may be the way to roll off some of those spikey highs and mids.
What's a good DARK speaker to put in one of these (I got one) that will #1. reduce the midrange to a controllable level, and #2. roll off a little of that biting high end attack that has my ears bleeding? I just want to smooth it out, it's too midsy for rhythm guitar work. Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks.
Yeah, I love the G12H30s, but NOT for this amp. This thing needs the exact opposite. Most tube amps on the market are a little dark for my taste, so the G12H30s and the Vintage 30s are perfect, but in the classic 30, they would accentuate what there's already too much of. I am ready to try a 12" aluminum cone Bass driver, or even just a woofer. This amp has enough mids and highs to cut through even with a low frequency speaker anyway.......still, I love this amp, and I'll do what I must for it.
hmmm ... you're right ... (i am a G12H30 fan too) perhaps a bass driver , why not ... or a greeback , but they're only 25w ... why not an eminence commonwealth or cannabis rex ? the website says they have moderate high-end ... or some bass speaker ... could sound lovely with a strat ^^
I found a pdf sheet on the caqnnabis rex, and it has a bit of a spike around 3.5KHZ, which would not be good for this amp, and the commonwealth only comes in 8ohms, while the classic 30 requires 16, plus the commonwealth isn't that dark. I need a speaker that would make an ordinary amp sound like a very dark amp, that will make my C30 sound normal. A greenback may be an option, I record at moderate volumes, with a sensitive condenser mic, so I wouldn't be worried about blowing a GB.
Hey, I retubed her with JJ EL84s, and a 12AX7LPS in the phase inverter position, and JJ short plate 12AX7s in V1 and V2, and it sounds great, AND. . . .tomorrow UPS is scheduled to deliver me my Swamp Thang! I can't wait to start breaking that baby in! I'll keep you all posted on my progress. Hopefully I am also about to get a couple old 15" jensens for an extension cab, then I will really have some FAT SOUND coming out of that thing!
That's a matter of taste, but I'd say the better sounding amp is definitely the ac15. Of course, the blues jr has a 3 band eq, while the ac15 (I think) only has bass and treble, which makes it harder to record in my experience. If you want your leads to "sing", and your vocals to cut through, you need to be able to cut a little midrange out of the rhythm guitar, otherwise you will have to turn it down so that it is harder to hear. So for versatility, the BJ, but for tone, the vox. My opinion.
Hey i am looking for a new tube amp with chanells and moderate wattage so i can play in my room with good tone then take out to small gigs and band practice. I play classic, hard, southern, and blues rock through a schecter c1 hellraiser and a MIM strat and was looking at this peavey classic 30, a peavey valveking 112 50 watt, a vox vt50 solid state with one 12ax7 preamp, also if u have any recomendations it would be nice. I want the amp with the best value and tone for the price of 400 to 600 $
Nice tone and playing! I think I will pick up a C30

Went to the music store yesterday to get a Peavey Windosr Halfstack and then i tried this and fell in love. I just had to get it instead. It is an awesome amp for classic rock, blues, folk, country, anything really! It 's awesome.

now, from what i understood when i got MY Classic 30,the power tubes peak at around 5 or 6,so it would sound totally different if you set the post at 6 and ran this same test..this little amp get a lot of gain with the power tubes fully saturated
geeterman98 1 year ago
Good Test and song very nice.
Thanks

Would it hurt this amp to take two of the power tubes out?

I am looking to buy a Peavey Classic, I want to get the 30, but I was wondering if it was loud enough to do small to medium gigs with?
Also, I am into blues, Rock N' Roll, and Punk is this a good amp for me?
thevans69 2 years ago
the amp is very loud. But I can't tell you exactly, because small or medium are relative measures. If the drums don't need to be amplified, C30 is enough, it is louder than a very loud drummer hehe
BluesZep 2 years ago
@BluesZep i have this amp and its one loud sucka!! im swapping out the speaker for a celestion vintage 30....any advice on tubes???? thanx
tabulaerasae82 1 year ago
@tabulaerasae82: I put JJ power tubes on my Classic 30, and loved it. I recomend them.
BluesZep 1 year ago
@BluesZep yeah i was thinking the jj's or mesa boogie but heard very good things about the jj's....are the power tubes the EL84's?? also did you keep the stock preamp tubes ??
tabulaerasae82 1 year ago
No, I changed stock preamp tubes to Miniwatt and EH tubes
BluesZep 1 year ago
@thevans69 When I used this at a wedding my bass player had sig transistor-stack att 10 (out of 10) on a 300w head and I was around 3,5 (out of 12). If the drums are amplified, your guitar should also be so there's nothing to worry about! Get it!
As for blues, rock n' roll and punk you shouldn't have any problems. The only problem you might have is that you might need to crank up the volume quite a bit to get a sweet sound but it is there!

taygoo13 2 years ago
sorry, but my neighbours will not like the test hehehe
BluesZep 2 years ago
@BluesZep Can you get a lot of overdrive by using the post gain
taygoo13 2 years ago
most of amp gain comes from preamp (pre gain)
BluesZep 2 years ago
hey man ! great video ! I have an epiphone les paul...wuold that sound good on that ??thanks

@Alessandoctor
For sure it will, as long your guitar have a good setup. Changing your pickup could for sure help to achieve even a better tone.

A propósito, desculpe por ter postado a mesma pergunta 2 vezes. Esqueci que já havia perguntado em português. Esse tom é realmente IRADO!!!
levinjapan 2 years ago
Nice! I've got a Classic 30 and for gain I think it sounds better to crank the post right up and then add in the pre, and then add OD pedal(s) . Power tube saturation sounds much better than preamp gain IMHO.
Stringprodigy 2 years ago
@Stringprodigy was does normal, post, and pre (presence?) mean
Shelbones01 2 years ago
On the clean channel, there is only the volume knob, called Normal. On the dirt channel, there is a knob that controls preamp gain, the Pre knob. Only the smaller preamp tubes are involved. It's good to crank the Pre and adjust the volume with the Post if you have to play at lower volume levels. At higher volume levels, the preamp gain cranked will sound fizzy and sterile. In this situation, it's better to crank the Post knob and turn down the Pre. The Post knob involves the power tubes
Stringprodigy 2 years ago
@Stringprodigy i think i'll just save up for a Pod X3 live hahah or just wait until i turn 16 so i can get a job

Do you think this amp is enough for playing with a a band or at least in a small church (50 people).

hey guy i have a question do you think its good i buy a marshall or line - 6 or peavey, i want it to play metallica arch enemy slayer pantera stuff like that
noritsueco 2 years ago
I wouldn't think so, acoustics don't sound great through electric amps. acoustic amps and PAs are the way to go if you just want to amplify your acoustic sound, bass amps EQ are closer to these so you could try some of those out too.
AlexanderBlueAvenue 2 years ago
I have one too, but I've never been able to get that much distortion from it. Did you turn the boost button on?
acuity67 2 years ago
No, the boost switch is off.
BluesZep 2 years ago
The problem might be your guitar. if it has weak pups. or if it is a Fender- those don't have as much gain.
TheDancingSaxophone 2 years ago
do you think the Classic 50 would be enough to do gigs with, maybe medium sized shows?
CrazyLongboard 2 years ago 2
Even the classic 30 is enough to gig!! The 50 is quite big to carry around...
surfboy7 2 years ago
Yes it surely is. I use a Classic 30 live, choosing it over a Marshall JCM2000 which was already on the stage. The stagehands were really puzzled because it was so small (!) compared to the other amps. But afterwards he said "Good god, that little amp you got there sounds killer!" Gotta love that ;)

I was very impressed by this amp when I tried it out at a local shop. I think I'm going to pick one up. Do you find that it gets noisy with high pre and post gain?
Lifestream 2 years ago 2
Mine gets a bit noisy when pre AND post are high setted, but nothing anormal.
BluesZep 2 years ago
I have one and I just use the clean channel. For me it is a pedal amp. But when using some good pedals its not noisy at all.

TONY STEWART!

Definitely has a good classic rock sound... I tried the tweed version with a marshall 4x12 cab at guitar center and it rocked!! I used an LP standard with burstbuckers and an SG Standard with a 490 and 498T, they both sounded amazing with this head, I bet the tubes are very affordable too, just need to see how available they are... this thing can get LOUD if you want it to!

ive got bb's in 58 vos and sometimes i struggle to get a good tone out of them maybe its just my garbage marshall vsr30..sometimes they can sound great and others either too bright or too bassy.
fretboarder 2 years ago
sounds really good..hey how do you think the 57 classics compare to the burstbuckers?? cheers..
fretboarder 2 years ago
'57 classics are warmer and mellow. Burstbuckers are brighter and rispid.
But both sets are excellent, just differ on details.

Wow - sounds really nice.
Especially up on the high frets.
Nice playing too.

megadv8r 2 years ago
Ok, the internal is 16ohms, and the amp says "minimum load 16ohms", but is the extension speaker jack in series or paralleled with the internal? In other words, what is the minimum impedance I can use when I plug a cab in to the ext. jack?
punkeratheart 2 years ago
But yeah, this amp sounds lovely with my strat! It seems to respond well to my teles too, just enough gain, just enough harmonic content, tele heaven.. I am considering a swamp thang or a texas heat, or maybe a Jensen P12N, but I also may just call peavey and ask for a black widow! Seriously, the BWs are good, and very warm and dark, with a usable range of 50Hz - 3.5KHz which is real dark compared to a V30's range of 70Hz - 5KHz. It may be the way to roll off some of those spikey highs and mids.
punkeratheart 2 years ago
What's a good DARK speaker to put in one of these (I got one) that will #1. reduce the midrange to a controllable level, and #2. roll off a little of that biting high end attack that has my ears bleeding? I just want to smooth it out, it's too midsy for rhythm guitar work. Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks.
punkeratheart 2 years ago
eminence ? check their catalog , the have tons of speakers ...
or perhaps , the classic G12H30 , but it will be bright ... so ...
GroovyGuitar02 2 years ago
Yeah, I love the G12H30s, but NOT for this amp. This thing needs the exact opposite. Most tube amps on the market are a little dark for my taste, so the G12H30s and the Vintage 30s are perfect, but in the classic 30, they would accentuate what there's already too much of. I am ready to try a 12" aluminum cone Bass driver, or even just a woofer. This amp has enough mids and highs to cut through even with a low frequency speaker anyway.......still, I love this amp, and I'll do what I must for it.
punkeratheart 2 years ago
hmmm ... you're right ... (i am a G12H30 fan too) perhaps a bass driver , why not ... or a greeback , but they're only 25w ... why not an eminence commonwealth or cannabis rex ? the website says they have moderate high-end ... or some bass speaker ... could sound lovely with a strat ^^
GroovyGuitar02 2 years ago

Hopefully I am also about to get a couple old 15" jensens for an extension cab, then I will really have some FAT SOUND coming out of that thing!

i'm stuck between this vox ac15 and fender blues jr please respond
sunshinesmash2442 2 years ago
AC15 BY A MILLION MILES .
peterm3964 2 years ago
That's a matter of taste, but I'd say the better sounding amp is definitely the ac15. Of course, the blues jr has a 3 band eq, while the ac15 (I think) only has bass and treble, which makes it harder to record in my experience. If you want your leads to "sing", and your vocals to cut through, you need to be able to cut a little midrange out of the rhythm guitar, otherwise you will have to turn it down so that it is harder to hear. So for versatility, the BJ, but for tone, the vox. My opinion.
punkeratheart 2 years ago
Hey i am looking for a new tube amp with chanells and moderate wattage so i can play in my room with good tone then take out to small gigs and band practice. I play classic, hard, southern, and blues rock through a schecter c1 hellraiser and a MIM strat and was looking at this peavey classic 30, a peavey valveking 112 50 watt, a vox vt50 solid state with one 12ax7 preamp, also if u have any recomendations it would be nice. I want the amp with the best value and tone for the price of 400 to 600 $
