Can you imagine a modern Premier League manager being that hospitable with young kids desperate to meet them? What a man Cloughie was. RIP, Old Big 'Ead.
god cloughy, he's so badly missed in football the game is starved of characters like him, they are all so meely mouthed managers, these days worried about offending anyone and losing their £150,000 per week wages. rest in peace brian.
@in2u2b , AND WHAT MAY I ASK ARE YOU?! APART FROM A POOR, SPITEFUL, JOYLESS, MOTHER FUCKER WHO HAS NO FREINDS. AT LEAST I ACHEIVED MORE THAN MOST AND WILL BE REMEMBERED FOREVER. YOUR PROBABLY A TAXI DRIVER OR POT WASHER OR SOMETHING YOU PRICK!!
You will never see a top manager hugging the fans today! unless its to take pick pocket even more of their hard earned cash! Wenger/Mancini/Ferguson you will always be in the shadow of the true greats! Sorry fellas!
@pitkin77 you'll never see a top manager hitting his own fans. you'll never see a top manager pissed up giving his half time team talk. you'll never see a top manager supplying ticket touts. you'll never see a top manager take bungs. you'll never see a top manager take over the reining champions and call them all cheats.
Im a leeds fan but think old big head was a top bloke he was just super confedent in him self all the greats are and the fact he went aroun giving leeds fans a hug just makes me like him more we need more people likehim in the game i think holloway is sort of the moderm version of him.
He also bought the first £999,999.99 Player - who had been brought up through Birmingham City's ranks: Trev Francis.
Mr Clough is a Legend to many and rightly so.
Any of you questioning his acumen should come to any part of the midlands and find the answers (apart from aston villa-because they don't think before they talk) . He was a true gent.
He bought our best players but they were winners - good lad....
My favourite Cloughie story concerns when he was Forest manager and he came across a father and son at the City Ground. He stopped to talk to them and the father apparently told him that his young son had been saving up and had just bought a ticket to watch Forest with his savings . On hearing this, Cloughie apparently went in to his pocket and gave the young lad £20. Plenty more stories like that, so I find the comments made by a sad individual on here to pathetic really.
@tomd2103 mine is when he went on national tv and said the polish goallie was a clown. then that same goallie was man of the match and knocked england out the world cup. or was it when he punched his own fans? or maybe when he ruined justin fashanu?or supplied ticket touts and put his own fans in danger as rival fans fought running battles inside wembley? maybe it was when he fucked leeds up?or drove his best mate peter taylor away.even nigel didnt like him!
@in2u2b Or when he became only the second English manager in history to win the league championship with two different teams. Or when he won back-to-back European Cups.
watching this made me smile. Why dont we have characters like him around anymore. The world is a much lesser place without Brian clough. His interviews are priceless and this one is a gem. thanks for posting this.
I cannot believe anybody would want to post negative comments about this great man. He was a fantastic manager and a fantastic man. Controversial yes, barmy yes, outspoken yes. But these were the ingredients that made him the genius he was. People should not choose to have a go at him by picking the worst parts of him, because the best bits by far outnumber the bad. Just look at the way he is taking his time here to spend time with the youngsters, how many managers would do that now? NONE!
Cloughie called Howard Wilkinson a "Big head" in this interview. Wilkinson was the Leeds United manager at the time, though I think Pots and Pans come to mind when he said that! He said that if he, Nigel Jemson and Howard Wilkinson tried to get through the main gate at Elland Road, there would be a traffic jam, because they were all big heads.
@mrmingo He won the League aged 35 and the European Cup aged 42. Took 2 sides from a lower division onto the League title, and in Forest's case immediately after promotion. When joined Forest in Jan 1975 they were 13th in Div 2. 4 years 5 months later, they were European Champions.
He scored 250+ goals in 270+ games, the highest ratio of goals to games still.
@brianclough LOL dont you mean Jack Walker would only sell him to one club? You must have forgotten the discussions he had with man united then? Shearer didnt turn down United. He got turned down by Walker.

And your point is..?
I may have missed the capital A on Allister but the spelling is correct.

@spacecowboy7580
you berate someone for incorrect spelling , then make your own error . the capital A is important in a scottish name. have a good new year ;)

Thick twat...as I said..it was spelt correctly...the small a was a typo not a spelling error...can your tiny brain now digest that fact?

Interesting changing of the guard here. Leeds was on their way to what would be their last 1st Div/Prem title and Clough's career was winding down.
