  • Love how the ditto machine joke is lost to nearly everybody under 40.

  • i see the globe right there.....lol

  • Anyone who went to school in those days fondly remembers the smell of those handouts.

  • I can think of about 10 different teachers I've had in my lifetime that I wish I could've said that to.

  • Interior architecture (sterile) and class size indicate a US public high "school." If this was a private US school Mr. Sciponi (aka Sean Penn) would be taking CANADIAN HISTORY and be speechless with admiration over the incredibly fascinating and world shattering events in the history of that nation north of the 49th. paralell!

  • 3 people are on dope!

  • "This guys been stoned since the third grade" ITS ME! lol

  • What are you people?! On Dope?!

  • Man that guy has balls. But the teacher IS a dick so I don't blame him

  • YOU DICK!!!!!!

  • Me n high school wen I showed up

  • "I know that dude." (proud face)

  • hey "BUD" whats your problem!?? hahahaha fucken spicoli!

i wish i was around in that time to tell him "sick shorts bro"

  • HEY BUD WHATS YOUR PROBLEM?

  • Um, why did everyone smell their papers at the end.....?

  • @BeAsTm0aD

because back in the day , you could get high from the ink smell

  • way to go Spicoli

  • I know that dude...

  • @CommanderOfTheSun Ive been that dude that other dudes know. Its a weird experience.

  • Best thing Sean Penn has done in his entire life.

  • this guy has been stoned since the 3rd grade

  • what a dick

  • nobody ever called their teacher a " dick " back in the day although a lot of his thought of doing it!!

  • Actually, it's a ditto machine paper/solvent - go to Wikipedia and look up "spirit duplicator " (apparently I'm not allowed to post links?)

  • I KNOW THAT DUDE

  • "This is U.S. History...I can see the globe right there." LMAO!!!!!

  • You kids today have no idea why they're smelling the paper, do you? Google mimeograph.

  • this is U.S. history i see the globe right there

  • Thumbs up if you have or really wanted to say this to each and every one of your teachers.

  • 2 people got their card ripped up by Mr. Hand.

  • "YOU DICK!" LMFAO.

  • He knows it's history cus he sees a globe L O L wtf?

  • This reminds me of some of the fucktards who visit my channel, IDIOTS! ;o)

  • @ReplbliSCUMSareSICK Hey bud, whats your problem?

  • HEY BUD !, WHATS YOUR PROBLEM..???

  • You old people used to smell your exams? My, what a fascinating tribe you are.

  • @Forehead2Brick And YOUR generation spends YOUR FAT ASSES on Twitter and Facebook interacting with Virtual friends because you can' t relate in the REAL world, listen to music that is SPOON FED to you by Corporate Pigs, and think you are Musicians because you play Rock Band, and YOU were saying about OUR Generation?

  • @ReplbliSCUMSareSICK Actually Im not fat, I respect my elders and have a FB for networking purposes. I hate most new music and my favorite band is Zeppelin, I relate fine in the real world except I was suspended for dope. I dont play Rock Band, instead I enjoy Football, Lacrosse, Weightlifting, and Xbox. I could understand you would be pissed about someone insulting your generation, but your giving insult to yourself by lashing out at some weirdo like this. Any mature adult wouldnt care.

  • @RockFetish78 You know WHAT? I have NOTHING to prove to ANYONE, and I CALL them as I SEE THEM!

    Always have, ALWAYS WILL!

    Got a PROBLEM with THAT?

    TOO BAD!

  • LOL I came here after googeling "Ditto machine" because of the smell of those printed coppies. :D

  • Wow! It's rare that you'll see a High School movie and be able to say that in the years to come, almost the entire cast will go on to have successful careers as serious actors. Sean Penn, Judge Reinhold, Forest Whitaker, Jennifer Jason Leigh, Phoebe Cates, Nicholas Cage ALL AMAZING TALENTS. And my favorite scenes are the ones with Spicoli and Mr. Hand.

  • @Mr1131988 You forgot Eric Stoltz... aka. the drug dealer from Pulp Fiction. ;-) Also, Anthony Edwards. Oh... and the guy who robs the Quickie Mart at the end of the movie is James Russo, who has been in everthing from "Beverly Hills Cop" (he was the Eddie Murphy's frind ho got killed by thugs near the beginning of the film) to the Kevin Costner movie "Open Range" where he played the bought and paid for town Marshall.

  • @Mr1131988 Oh... and Nancy Wilson from Heart. She was the hot chick in the car laughing at Judge Reinhold's pirate costume. LOL! Great scene...

  • @DBMalone Yeah I could relate to that scene when I got my first job and it was in a fastfood. Then your boss tells you to be proud of it. Haha. Lana Clarkson was also in that film as Mr. Vargas' wife. She's dead now.

  • @Mr1131988 I knew she was someone, but not exactly who. I also didn't know that she was the one murdered by Phil Specter.

Also, Vincent Schiavelli played her husband Mr. Vargas. He was in other things, including "Ghost."

  • Smelling the printouts from the mimeograph machine, ahh memories!

  • Where the fucks the epic win button?

  • short shorts!!

  • This is where chicken joe came from XD

  • Hey bud, what's your problem?

  • i remember back in the 80's-90's Howard Stern would use the "You Dick" soundclip a lot... especially when he had Richard Simmons in, and he would always get annoyed when it was played...lol

  • hahaha

  • goddd i love this movie..now a days people make shitty ass mmovies. i doubt there will be a movie as good as thi probably ever again

  • lol "this guy has been stoned since the 3rd grade"

  • this is us history i see a globe right there... lmao

  • "i know that dude'

  • You dick!

  • Before Sean Penn started taking himself too seriously.

  • Seriously, Who are the two DICKS that disliked this?

  • anyone young would not understand the "sniffing of the paper" at the end of this scene..for those who do not know what this is all about ill tell you.......before there were photo copy machines schools made copies on a machine called a "mimeograph". It was a primitive form of photo copy machine....the ink or maybe it was the paper had the most strange addictive odor. Everyone would sniff the paper. We were probably getting high off it....nobody even cared that it was probably poisonous/addictive

  • @inkey2 I watched this the other day and wondered that. Thanks.

  • @HesterDW Re: THE END SCENE WHERE THEY SMELL THE PAPER: yeah, mimeographs printed in a light blue ink......the smell was absolutely addictive. It had an indescribable strong chemical oder. To this day I have never smelled anything even remotely close to it...had to be toxic........it's like trying to describe what the interior smell was like in cars made before 1970.......ya just can't explain it........

  • @inkey2 IIRC, the chemical used was methanol, aka wood alcohol. So probably not all that toxic. Certainly not like carbona. Or glue!

  • @TheSnowballEarth LOL....carbona....havent heard that in a while.

  • @inkey2 Never tried it myself. Known to me only through The Ramones. :-]

  • @inkey2 God I remember that! I also remember that the papers, just after being copied, were cold. They weren't wet or anything, just really cold and had that really nice smell on them.

  • @inkey2

@kabukikitsune What did it smell like..was it like funk, sweet, marker etc. please explain im very curious now.

  • @feraloner

The smell is hard to describe. It was a pleasant sweet smell. Like a fumey-ink. It would only make you temporarily, 5 seconds or so, lightheaded. It wasn't capable of doing much but we got as high as we could. Right guys? lmao

  • @GrantLeBon I remember sniffing it but only the blue ink .I didnt get high on it,it just smelled so appealling. Can't explain it.

  • @GrantLeBon like newspaper or new book?

  • @GrantLeBon Hell yeah...

  • @feraloner It's a good question. It had a very soft almost sweet smell. There was an odd kick to it too, though I wouldn't call it a high. It could often make your face go numb if it was recently printed.

  • @inkey2 thanks for the explanation

  • @inkey2 what are you? a fucking genius?

  • @BigOldMrKnish lol......genius? Whay do you think that? ???? ????

  • @inkey2 if there's one thing that daddy doesn't like, it's being second guessed- especially if it's by a genius. so trust me when i tell you, you are our intellectual superior and all of us come here- to this video -not to hear the repartee played out by a one mr. hand and a jeff spicoli, but to bask in the brilliant splendor of your comment which has enlightened us all. we are all better people for having stopped to read your insight into an era lost, but not forgotten, thanks to you. knish.

  • @inkey2 Of course a guy with the YouTube name "Inkey2" could explain the mimeograph process. Heh heh.

  • @zkxb as much as I would like to claim being a genius for knowing this.....everybody in my age group knows about the "smelling of the mimeograph copies".........just like every 90 year old remember WW2....lol

  • The generation nowadays wouldn't understand the smelling of the ditto copies. Back in the day it was the cheapest way to get a 5-sec buzz. :)

  • @WildBill6942 You're right, I didn't understand it. I was born in 82. Can you explain it though?

  • @WildBill6942 LOL......read my posting about sniffing the paper

  • @inkey2 -- those were the days! I remember my teacher picked me to go get the copies that were just run off the machine and they were still cold... not sure why but they always were cool and smelled good. I also remember the ink was blue, not black like today's copies.

  • one of my favorite teen movies :D spicoli's my fave

  • LOL........"this is US history....I see the "globe" right there".....did anyone else "get that".........he thought he would be studying the globe in U.S. History

  • @inkey2 "he thought he would be studying the globe in U.S. History"

LOL! Dude, I musta laughed a full 5 min after readin yer sh$#...you fu$#er! Made me fu%$in cry!

  • ~~~~~MOVIES THAT DON'T SUCK~~~~~

  • if your here... and im here...dosnt that make this our time?

  • Sean Penn´s greatest role...its all been fu%$in down hill since then for this dude.

  • @RideMyBMW Hahha! i totally agree. This is by far my favorite character of his.

  • Hey bud whats your problem?!?

  • never go full retard!

  • Society Reject to Philanthropist. He's come along way, baby! haha

  • YOU DICK!!!!!!!

  • So that's what happened. I heard Spicole pulled a knife on Mr. Hand...

  • @TheSnowballEarth yeah i heard that rumour

  • @TheSnowballEarth I heard he ripped up all his notes.

  • @Spartacus217 Milk's gay

  • 2 dislikes. Those guys are fags!

  • @FROZENCH0SIN Excuse me, BREEDER BOY -— you can keep your "fag" comment to YOURSELF.

Now, why don't you go make some homosexual babies, given that's all that your sperm is capable of producing?

  • @CH3CH2OCH2CH3net You Dick!

  • @FROZENCH0SIN I'll smack them upside the skull with my Vans.

  • my cousin sean

  • "eh i know that dude"

  • AAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHAHA

  • This guys been stoned since the 3rd grade!

  • Alsoooererererer, there will be no eating. Hahaha

  • what a major dick..

  • there will be no eating E A T I N G in this class

  • It's been a LOOOOOOOOOOONG way down into the gutter of leftist liberalism for Sean Penn since this artistic and career high point!!!

  • @SKOTP69 YOU DICK!!!!!

  • @mediblue9 Ha Ha not very Ha!

  • @SKOTP69 I guess you missed "Milk"?

  • @Spartacus217 Oh YEAH! I very intentionally "missed" Milk!!! Didn't miss his awful, bullshit, soulless, propagandist speech though!

  • @SKOTP69 "At Close Range"? Great film. Although he was married to Madonna so he can't be wrapped too tight.

  • @Spartacus217 At Close Range...very good film! Remember, that I said it's been a LONG WAY DOWN for Sean Penn from his original high point in 'Fast Times...' to the quagmire at the bottom of aravine that he now finds himself in! I know there were some good points on the way down! Racing With The Moon, with Nicholas Cage, being another standout!

  • @SKOTP69 He would've made a good Larry Fine in the upcoming 3 Stooges movie, but he backed out. Personally I think they should abort the 3 Stooges movie. Nothing can come good out of it.

  • @Spartacus217 Well! I hadn't heard about that! he MIGHT have begun redeeming himself as Larry Fine, but yes, there's no real need for anything like that. I watched a Three Stooges bio-telemovie a while bac, and no, it's not good...just the the Three Stooges BE, that's better!

  • this is U.S. history i can see the globe right there lol

  • Sean Penn is amazing ;) I totally love him!!!! People should stop hating on him :(

  • Hey you're ripping my card..

  • I heard Cameron Crowe (the writer of the movie) is seen in the back row.

  • "Hey bud, what's your problem" lol

  • I think every one of us had at least one or two teachers just like Mr. Hand in high school .. lol the types who just hated kids...

  • Those shoes that Sean Penn wears in this film are BAD ASS!

  • Spicoli was the best part of this movie. Lol

  • Who is the actor who played the teacher?

  • @TheSuperMerc Ray Walston

  • LOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOL!

  • Poor Spicoli. All he wants is to surf, smoke weed and get thru high school. History teacher is so down on him, but comes thru in the end.

  • LMAO

  • you never go ful retard

  • for all of his other great roles, in the end Sean Penn will always be Spicoli to me.

    oh yeah ... YOU DICK!

    XD

  • " I see the globe right...there." Thank you Spicoli you made my day!

  • YOU DICK!!!!!!

  • Why did they smell the paper haha

  • @ThatMexicanKid101 old copy machines called ditto machines used a chemical that was supposed to give you a buzz when sniffed.

  • @ThatMexicanKid101 ... Back in the day when copies were made with REAL INK in a drum-style printer, everyone would enjoy the fragrance of the 'fresh' ink. Ask your parents about that.

  • @tazztt1 please, that's weak ****. i remember back before printers in the 50's...see how stupid bragging about old technology is? i mean vinyl is one thing.

  • @thesportsdude90 ...what's weak? you remember before the 50's because you're older is all... who's bragging about old tech? and what vinyl are you referring to?

if you're going to criticize, please make some damn sense, sheeesh

  • @tazztt1 Yeah... Ditto Machines. LOL! God knows why we liked to smell it though...

  • Huh?

  • Wha?

  • Disgusting movie, but Ray Walston was great...as usual.

  • the 80's. when short shorts were stylish on guys

  • I almost didnt recognize him here! He's an amazing actor! Though I dont like him as a person :) (Sean Penn)

  • Wow i dont like Sean Penn but he is a great actor.. Can't believe he passed up as a surfer! I wonder where Madonna was at this time!

  • @hazelh0814 grooving in new york lol

  • Is he in his underwear, or really short shorts

  • Im 17 and highschool is nothing like this. nothing.

  • @StupidTeddybear Yeah, now. It was back then.

  • @GetxSpawnTubed lol. Im 40 and my high school experience was exactly like this. All of it.

  • @StupidTeddybear then you live in a box

  • 1:09 "yeah I know yhat dude"

    why he said that ?

  • I think most of us had a teacher like Mr. Hand in high school :-)

  • This teacher is typical of the pricks hired by the National Education Association. All attitude, zero professionalism.

  • @cincyblows Actually, I was enjoying his teaching style. (I never liked Spiccoli.) :P

  • SHORT SHORRRTTTTSSSSS

  • I see a globe right there..

  • the one guy who doesnt like this is prolly the 4.0 deush who's every parents wet dream and is never late. f you

  • haha. I had a real dick teacher once, he thought he was cool. I guess this was a little immature of me but whenever I see him around town he waves to me like we're buddies since I graduated his class. I give him the finger

  • mr hand reminds mr of my math teacher

  • I'd love to play a Mr. Hand-style teacher in a movie like this--because on the inside, I'm Jeff Spiccoli all the way! I wonder if I could do it?

  • What did those papers smell like?

  • [In disbelief] "You're ripping my card!"

  • man sean penn has is and always will be one fugly dude

  • @weathered79 : If I had known then what I know now.... ;])

  • spicoli was so cute (:

  • "I know that dude..."

  • i love it.

  • This is a great movie. Why is Sean Penn so sensitive about being in it?

  • HEY BUD WHATS YOUR PROBLEM

  • for some reason i just bust out laughing when he says hey bud whats your problem

  • "This is US History. I can see the globe right there." haha

  • No eating, E-A-T-I-N-G, not in class.

This is US history, I see a globe right over there.

  • 1:30

  • this almost makes me cry I become so nostalgic.
