@Andy11231 If he's real then he won't be stupid and he'll understand my thinking and I wouldn't care, he doesn't do any good anyway. I've no regrets about religion and probably never will. I will have lived a full loving life too. I probably will have more spare time on sundays than you and I don't have to worry or pray or risk it all and even settle for 'Its all his will' instead of making something real happen myself. Life is in our own hands, not some illusion conjured up once upon a time.
This song is so deep and moving. The meaning gets to the heart and soul. I've had a time when I didn't believe in God. Everything was falling apart for me. Then my friend took me in and brought me to his church and I prayed and believed. I felt hope and then as the days went by things slowly got better. Every time I needed God, he was there for me. This song gets me in tears.
This is a wonderful song. Speaks to the heart, or the mind if you want. I'm more a lover of heavy music (I love Christian bands like Red, Underoath and so on) but if a song has quality like this, I like it nevertheless.

This is a climate that we should be able to overcome somehow.
@jcmmanuel Yup, some of the best people I know are believing in something and I don't mind at all because they're rational people or at least they don't state things like "jesus is alive" and all of that. I believe too, just not in Gods for example or spaghetti monsters, it just doesn't make sense to me. It's the "way" they believe that matters. But like everywhere else, there's still a smart and stupid way of doing it.

Humans are characterized by any things, one of which is the fact that we create meaning from what we see, know, feel. And this is not irrational, it's not that simple (whatever oneliner people may always come up with). Just like we believe in axioms, in logic, and in many things that make sense, so god can really make sense for us.

@Poomba1989b How is it a childhood nonsense when I experienced a life living without God and grew up just worshiping figures? How is He a waste of my worship? What is worth believing and my all? I have proved that He is real and alive in my lifetime and I used to think the way you think but not until I really found out the truth and lived a life that is for Him. There is a huge difference living a life for me and living a life for Him. Someday I know you will understand this too :)

@ilovemytenorsax Maybe you chose the easier way out and fell for the lie. Ever think about that? It's a waste to worship because you could do much more with your time than praying, going to mass or you could even improve your life by thinking about anything else than Him. Believe in people and yes, live a life for YOU. There's nothing wrong with that, in fact it's encouraged. Why would you live FOR him? seriously. What good does it do? What will you do when you die and find out it's all fiction?

A feeling could be anything, it does not prove the existence of any God. If it did than being horny could be comprehended the same. By the way if you experienced a life without God then you're saying he wasn't 'with you' while I hear from every christian fanatic that he's with you even if you don't believe. You have no leg to stand on.

Are you selling wholesale rubber bullets? I don't know the person you're discussing with here, but she speak not from argument but from an inner experience. Now if you're a physicalist of some kind that doesn't mean anything to you - but Santa Claus not something adults believe in. The god idea is not functional in that category.

@jcmmanuel Make fun of it all you want but I didn't see you give any support to the belief. You've added nothing new. Of course adults don't believe in it anymore, but they could if everyone kept up the charade so hard like christians do with God. I didn't compare the characters, I compared the difference in growing up with it. A smart person would be able to think that through. And also, I asked her what experience she has had that made her sure He's real. So, at least I asked open-mindedly

But especially in the US something happened. Before the 1940s most believers intuitively knew that evolution theory was not the same thing like atheism - but it seems that this intuitive feeling has diminished since then. 'New atheism' and all that jazz isn't very helpful either. What we need is reason, not conflict-based 'solutions'.

@jcmmanuel I'm simply lashing out because I'm fed up with people so hopelessly lost in stuff like that, that they don't even think for themselves anymore and just "believe". I think humankind can do a lot better. Bertrand Russel once said “Religion is something left over from the infancy of our intelligence, it will fade away as we adopt reason and science as our guidelines."

@Poomba1989b Okay, I can see what you mean. If you distinguish a real "refusal to think" from a "refusal to think the atheist way", I could also agree with you. I'm not against atheists, but I've often seen them trampling underfoot believers for just not thinking as they do - even while those believers are just honest people who can love their atheist neighbor just as well as any other. This is a climate that we should be able to overcome somehow.

@jcmmanuel Yup, some of the best people I know are believing in something and I don't mind at all because they're rational people or at least they don't state things like "jesus is alive" and all of that. I believe too, just not in Gods for example or spaghetti monsters, it just doesn't make sense to me. It's the "way" they believe that matters. But like everywhere else, there's still a smart and stupid way of doing it.

@jcmmanuel Religion is bad when it's out of control. Exhibit A: suicidebombers, those are active extremes, they all started as cute little rugrats like everyone until they go to far, they're brainwashed, they don't grow up naturally and they think it's pure truth because they don't know any different. The passive extremes are the ones that fill heads with the stuff like crazy people. They never get blown up or go to jail so they can keep going for a lifetime but it's just as wrong.

German anti-moralists 'used' science to eliminate 'inferior' human species, while atheism was used by communists to stuff the manifesto's of Stalin, Mao, Pol Pot to give it more authority in the name of god's non-existence to kill a hundred million civilians (besides the 60 million in military service) - more victims than ever in religion. It's not that straightforward.

@ilovemytenorsax I would talk about faith in a different way, but still I agree with you on the basis of experience being something that has meaning. Humans are characterized by any things, one of which is the fact that we create meaning from what we see, know, feel. And this is not irrational, it's not that simple (whatever oneliner people may always come up with). Just like we believe in axioms, in logic, and in many things that make sense, so god can really make sense for us.

It's hard for me to listen to this song... The first time I heard this song, it reminded me of my boyfriend. I was going to tell him that whenever I heard it, it always reminded me of him. But instead of telling him, he broke up with me. Now this song only haunts me, especially when Jason sings, "Would you tell me, how could it be any better than this?" It breaks my heart knowing it couldn't get any better, but only worse...
