That's some badass playing, there. I sure do wish I'd gotten to see Hedges play . . . I actually was riffing off of his stuff in the late 1980's when I watched a video of him playing the harp guitar. I'm a bass player, so that appealed to me.

I once recorded this jazz cat who had this cool tapping / fretted harmonic thing going on, but his high notes were getting buried. I mounted a PZM mic with the plate removed on to the headstock of his guitar - it picked up tons of neck and fretboard resonances (and squeaks and finger-to-nut notes). Something like that might help your tonal balance.
