I don't watch this show, but this pairing seems perfect. What happened to him and is there a chance he will return? On soaps death means nothing.

Well, this one did. Ben was shot and fell into a permanant coma. Eventually, Viki developed a MAJOR heart problem and needed surgery. Ben gave his heart to Viki. She came out of the whole mess a widow. We watched him die and we know he has no heart. No miracle here.
