My parents are celebrating 54 years together today, and this is their song. When I wanna see how true love should be, I just look at them.....Happy Anniversary, Mom and Dad! I love you both so much..
John Hughey was one of the most sought after steel players in the country. He so craftily plays the ultimate steel solo and the key change on the turnaround just sends chills up my spine. He is missed. Vince personally called John to get him to play on the session in which "Look at Us" was recorded. That lead to 12 years of performing with Vince. Both men are class acts..
This should be a lesson on steel playing. All the decisions when to and when NOT to play, the way he holds off on the steel for the first verse, and the way John Hughey "answers" the lyrics, AMAZING, and Vince and the audience realize it .It's also an example of "it's not what you play, but how you play it". Soooo important in evocative steel playing.A hero, fer shure!
John hughey one of the finest pedal steel players ever, Vince grabbed him up right after Conway Twitty passed away.Vince knew if he didn't someone else would have.
RIP John what a great man, great picker Thanks for all those beautiful licks!.
One of the most beautiful songs Ive ever heard, & I dont belive any one could do it as good as Vince & company. I lost my Wife a year ago, 01-01 2011, we were married a little over 50 yrs. She was 16 & I was 19 in 1960,Im 70 now. If you wanted to see what true love could be, look at us.
Talk about your emotion. No-one cries like John Hughey! He's blowin Vince's mind, and holds back back sooooo elegantly. If that little solo at the end doesn't bring a tear to your eye , you may not be listening.
I could never get enough of listening to the master of steel guitar, John Hughey. There's never been one better and most probably never will. John had such a natural talent for the instrument that no matter what he played it was always so "natural" coming out of his steel. Not only the smoothest there's ever been but also the most prolific. He and Vince made quite a team. Vince is another one who can never be replaced. RIP John Hughey and Vince you continue to go get 'em.
Very nice. Thanks for posting. I met John in Nasville. I was in a group at the time and we had him play steel in the studio for us on some songs. My dad was learning steel at the time and he just loved the steel guitar in this song. John sat down and showed me how to play it, and I remembered it long enough to get home and show my dad. I also got his autograph and a picture for dad too. I also got the same from Sonny Garrish, who played on the album also.
Bros-Hamlet ( I hope you are Norm Hamlet) Regardless you have fantastic taste. This is one of the most beautiful and tasteful videos of REAL COUNTRY music. and the respect that Vince gives Papa John, is a 5 Kleenex job. I should buy shares in Kleenex. RC
